I always get up late in the morning, and it is hard for me to eat something before going to school or work. I need to go to school and work on time because I feel ashamed when I am late. In addition, I am not much good at cooking, so I am lazy to cook for myself. I always eat outside. However, it challenges me when I have to wait for picking my food in the morning. Breakfast may not be for me. Thus, the heart attack can be the greatest risk for my body. Heart attack can lead to a condition of irregular rhythms of heart beats, and this condition is known as arrhythmia, which can weaken the heart further and may even prove to be fatal (How does a Heart Attack Affect the Body, n.d). Another effect is congestive heart failure (How does a Heart Attack Affect the Body, n.d). A heart attack can lead to myocardial rupture. However, it is not a very common occurrence and usually shows up within the first ten days after the heart attack (How does a Heart Attack Affect the Body, n.d). The treatment for heart attack includes medicines, medical procedures, heart-healthy style change, and cardiac rehabilitation (How Is a Heart Attack Treated? - NHLBI, NIH, n.d). Choosing a healthy eating plan is the best way for me to prevent the heart
“Hungry for Change” is an eye opening documentary made to explore the role that food plays in peoples’ lives. My overall Kcal average for the three days I recorded was 4,318, while my Daily recommended intake was 3,484. In terms of Kcal, I am eating more calories per day than recommended. Breaking it down a bit farther to percent of carbohydrates, I ate 110 percent of my Daily Required Intake for Carbohydrates, specifically 39.1 g more than recommended. The daily recommendation for protein is ten to thirty-five percent,
The following is an analysis of Joe Smith's food intake for one day by using the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) website using a food tracker program. The analysis addresses the serving sizes consumed, which food groups were represented, and adjustments in consumption that should be made since Mr. Smith would like to loose weight. Visual representations are attached for reference in the appendix.
The low carbohydrate diets and the low fat diets both claim to be successful methods of losing weight and staying healthy. Both diet plans also attempt to carry out their goals by restricting what dieters can and cannot eat in relation to what is recommended by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Through altering what nutritionists suggest for a healthy regime, low carbohydrate and low fat meal plans potentially put dieters at a higher risk for developing health problems and diseases. Also, diet plans do not necessarily accomplish their goals when maintained over a long period of time.

One of the leading causes of death in the United States is heart disease. “Approximately every 29 seconds one American will have a heart attack, and once a minute one American will die from a heart attack” (Ford-Martin and Odle, 915). According to the Gale Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine men over the age of 45 and women over the age of 55 are considered at risk for heart disease. Heart disease is a major cause of death. It is beneficial to individuals who seek to prevent heart disease to recognize the risks leading to heart attacks as they are one of the primary indications of developing heart disease; especially those that fall into the at risk age groups. These risks consist of some that cannot be changed such as heredity risks, or those that can change such as smoking habits. It is very important to know these specific risks for prevention and to understand the symptoms of heart attacks, such as sweating or the feeling of weakness so if these or other symptoms occur people are aware. Finally heart disease treatment is of vital importance if you experience a heart attack so you can learn how to prevent another one from occurring.
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.
Describe your dietary habits (see assignment #1 from PHAS 5009) and discuss how those habits may be influencing your risk for chronic diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, osteoporosis, etc.
After reading and completing the assessment at the end of Chapter One, the author realizes that wellness has not been as much of a priority for herself and her family as it should be. The author sees areas where good techniques are being applied to teach her children to achieve wellness. She also sees areas where improvements need to be made. She teaches her family good hygiene, in a loving nurturing environment. She also buys healthy snacks such as fruit, low fat cheese, skim milk, and yogurt. However, she also buys some cookies and chips. These items are not good snack foods. She realizes that ...
Nutritionism is an ideology that believes that the nutrients in foods are the key to understanding them. Nutritionism believers are so focused on the nutrients that food contains that they forget about all other aspects of food. The problem is that consumers rely on packaging to tell them what nutrients a food provides, since nutrients cannot be obviously seen, and they rely on science to tell us what nutrients are good and which are “evil”.
Keeping track of what I ate for three days forced me to be held accountable. Few people realize just what they eat on a daily basis. Seeing the food log and the analysis helped me have a better understanding of what I put into my body and what my body needs on a daily basis as far as energy and nutrients. The analysis gave a summary for calories, food groups, and nutrients, both macro and micronutrients.
In the book, In Defense of Food, Michael Pollan explores the relationship between nutrition and the Western diet, claiming that the answer to healthy eating is simply to “eat food”.
A person should eat healthy and nutritiously balanced diet to maintain a good health. He should has such a diet in which he can get all the important nutrients and vitamins that are essential for overall growth and development. He should also take care of an amount of calories and servings that he takes on daily basis to ensure a good health. I recorded my food intake for two consecutive days and compared it with Canada’s Food Guide in order to know where I need to make improvements for a good health.
People is always asking: “Why is important to have a balanced diet? Why is necessary to have a balanced diet on a daily basis? And why do professionals tend to recommend a balanced diet?” The human being has essential needs to its existence: breathing, feeding, and keeping the body in constant movement. The majority of the people are aware of this, but they do not have a balance among these things and even more important they do not eat the adequate food to keep their body healthy. Food is one of the most important factors because it gives the energy the body needs daily. In other words, few words food is the fuel that provides glucose, which is carried to each cell of the body through the bloodstream. This process is extremely important and this is influenced by the type of food that each person consumes. A balanced diet is important for human beings, and makes reference to a good nutrition with regard to the food they eat; which contains macro nutrients that are carbohydrates, fats, and proteins; these provide energy and basic materials that the body uses to grow and stay healthy.
Previously to taking this class, I had never given much thought to my eating habits. I always thought of the way I chose to eat as one of those things I didn’t need to concern myself with too heavily now because I’m a young broke college student. The way I eat is pretty similar to the way most of my friends eat and when you live away from home, that seems like the norm for people in college. However, after applying what I’ve learned in this class to my life, I’ve realized that the dietary choices I make now affect not only my current health, but my future health as well. So overall, I would say that my eating habits are pretty bad, but I’m working on making them better.
