Ms. Jordan led the brown trail at Camp Bridlewood. We learned about naste water treatment. We hiked to a wastewater treatment place, there were a lot of steps to it. We built a water treatment filter using a plastic bottle, cotton balls, and a screen in our group. We took a class picture on the rocks. It was really fun and I was on the top rock. Ms.Good was the leader of the yellow trail. We learned how fossil fuels are made. Fossil fuels are made when an animal or plant has been buried for millions of years. Fossil Fuels are bad for the environment because it makes a lot of pollution, and that is bad for the earth. We also learned further in the dirt there is more oxygen. We made our own sample to prove it as a group. I had fun learning

This past week SUU’s native American student association (NASA), hosted their 38th annual powwow. Our club, the SUU Polynesian club was invited to dance for thirty minutes between their activities and we happily accepted. After we danced we were invited to come back so that we could watch and experience the native American culture. I was surprised to see how similar their culture was to ours!
Poverty can be a choice or a last resort for many across the globe. The Glass Castle a memoir written by Jeannette Walls, portrays how her family rejected civilization and embraced poverty. I felt Rex Wall’s notion of “sink or swim” (Page 66) portrays the failure and success of having a family. The situation in the Wall’s hopes manifested itself as a Glass Castle, a mysterious glass house the family would hope to build and live in. In order for the family’s dream to succeed, they would have to face many demons on the way. Throughout the book, I protested against some of the choices that were made, but I soon came to an understanding that some people will not change the way they live. I kept on thinking there always a possibility that there is always a cure to a problem, but sometimes there is too little time or understanding on both sides. A common theme that kept on going
Spring Awakening, my first and final play. Shelley Elman the director of the play did not live up to my expectations. It was hard for me to understand what was going on throughout the play, and where exactly it was taken place at. There were also many technical difficulties with the sound that took my attention from the stage. This was my first play I have gone to, and it was not a good experience. I went on a Friday and was seated in the middle of the auditorium, and would definitely not recommend seeing this play with your mother as I did. The auditorium was not a full house, but there was still quite a bit of people. Everyone in the audience reacted to specific scenes in the play that were uncomfortable including me and my mother. Spring Awakening was definitely a play that got you thinking, but is not something I would go see for fun. From the start of the play to the end was extremely awkward for me. A lot of the content in this play were topics that are common, yet not many individuals like to talk about. The entirety of the play was interesting, but did not show me anything spectacular. Spring Awakening was a jumbled mess that needed a lot of help.
The performance of Plains Daybreak was held at the Harrison theatre in San Marcos, Texas. The theatre was smaller than I expected, but it gave an intimate setting for the show that was taking place. The intimacy contributed to the atmosphere and made me feel closer to the performances. As a viewer, I tend to have an open mind while participating in artistic showcases. I am intrigued by abstract art. I prefer modern and contemporary dance pieces that tell a story or have a concept and leave me with questions or thoughts afterwards. Plains Daybreak was a concert dance created by Erick Hawkins to showcase a ritualistic interpretation of the first day on earth and was influenced by the Native American cultures. Some
The Pre-K and Kindergarten class studied habitats of various animals and insects. They were given examples and tough how the animals made their homes. The students built a bird house as their project and as something to take home to remind them of what they learned. Finally they went on a field trip to Legoland where they explored and built “habitats” for their families and the Lego people. The first and second grade class learned about marine life and the ocean. They built shoe box dioramas of coral reefs and created art projects depicting sea life as well as learning new facts about the ocean. The students got to go to the Aquarium for their field trip. Finally the third and fourth graders studied the rain forests and their ecosystems. The students built rainforest models and terrariums along with small group discussions on different ideas human intervention and conservation. They finished their week at the zoo where they studied different rainforest inhabitants in
There were a great many sights to see and memories to be made as we traversed across the beautiful landscape. The trek consisted of two ten mile segments so the younger scouts could just do one part if they became exhausted, but the older scouts were encouraged to tackle the entire journey. As we camped that night, we were able to use our leadership skills in order to delegate to the younger scouts the preparations that needed to made in order to create an organized

I could use this activity in the classroom by sharing the information that I received from the members of the First Nations Educational and Cultural Center. A lot of this information would be extremely helpful when talking to my students about Native Americans it gives information from the perspective of a Native American. My thoughts after this activity was how friendly and welcoming the members of this group are. I was also amazed on how much I actually learned there not only about beading but also about weaving and the Native American culture. From talking about different Native American tribes to the dances and outfits worn for these dances. I definitely would like to attend either another craft night or an event held by this cultural center.
Through this program I had first-hand access to some of the brightest young minds in both the United States and the world. The sharing among students of ideas and experiences in science, and in other areas as well, was enlightening. I felt like I had the chance to absorb knowledge from those around me. This environment spread beyond the students and also included the faculty and speakers. We had access to incredible faculty who were able to give much to the experience and share their own science insights. The program also brought in speakers and other science professionals from around the world who were at the top of their respective fields. This festival gave me real access to the movers and shakers of the science world, an experience beyond any available to me anywhere else.
I was born and raised in New York City and lived there until the summer of 2008. In the 14 years of living in New York City, I had numerous events that influenced my life. Each event serves as a memory of something that once was. Trying to decide which memorable event from my past to write about is difficult because many of the events in my life have shaped me into the person I am. To narrow down an event, I am choosing to write about my experience of attending Green River Preserve summer camp located in North Carolina, where I learned to appreciate nature and all the living things around me.
I joined Girl Scouts when I was six years old and continued with it until my senior year of high school. Without Girl Scouts, I know I would not be where I am today. By the time I entered high school, my troop consisted of a mere eight girls. Despite that small number, we were able to take on big projects that our leader gave us entire control over. It is because of these events—Girls Night Out, the Father Daughter Dance, and Spa Night to name a few—that I learned how to be a leader. Planning these events taught me how to organize, manage my time, and delegate tasks. Being a leader was never something I was thrilled to do, but Girl Scouts forced me out of my comfort zone and taught me skills I will use for the rest of my life.
I was at summer camp at camp tom hale Talihina, OK when i became a victim of a serious case of heat exhaustion. I was 11 years old when i was with my troop during the week of June 19th - 25th.
During the brainstorming process of my Senior Project I was having a challenging time deciding what I wanted to do. My initial thought was that I wanted to improve the environment in some way; however, I could not figure out a project that would be plausible for my limited time frame. No true ideas on this topic formulated in my head and I was at loss for what I wanted to do. I finally decided to call the coordinator of a local river organization—Grand Canyon Youth--to see if help was needed in their pre-season preparation. I was really impressed on how well organized Alexia Hall was with the class she seem to know where she wanted to the class to be at the end of the semester. We were past out with the class policies and a syllabus of what we were going to do the whole semester. I thought this was very convenient so that there was no mixed signals in the group.
