I am writing in application of the Business Improvement Officer position as advertised on the Department of Commerce’s Internal Jobs Board on 4 November 2016.
I have worked for the Consumer Protection Division (CP) of the Department of Commerce for over 12 years and am passionate about the work CP does within the Western Australian community. Over the last four years I have had the opportunity to undertake a number of different roles which interact with the Western Australian Real Estate Industry including working within the CP Licensing Branch, the Real Estate Compulsory Professional Development (CPD) section and the Bond Administration Branch and this has given me a broad understanding of the role of CP within the Real Estate Industry. I believe effective stakeholder communication has been key to the success of the BondsOnline eTransactions Agent rollout and this project has provided me the opportunity to prepare a wide range of communications to varying audiences. Notable examples include:
• Working with the CP Legal Unit to revise the BondsOnline User Agreement and develop a ‘Notice of modification of BondsOnline User Agreement and Terms and Conditions’ which was sent to over 600 Real Estate Agents;
• Collaborating with the Properties Industries Branch to develop a series of industry ‘e-bulletins’ to communicate to the Real Estate Industry during the rollout of BondsOnline eTransactions;
• Developing a suite of training resources including the scripts for seven YouTube

In my previous role as CPD Project Officer, I had the opportunity to establish a network of positive working relationships with real estate industry stakeholders such as industry associations, training providers and license holders. In my role as Business Improvement Officer, I was able to leverage and build on these relationships to ensure the success of the BondsOnline eTransactions project. An example of when I demonstrated my strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain contacts can be seen when dealing with the many Real Estate Agents who were initially against the idea of eTransactions. An Agent in particular was the Chairman for the Rockingham Branch of the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) and upheld a number of incorrect misconceptions about the BondsOnline eTransactions system. Despite the Agent’s initial refusal to even contemplate using the BondsOnline eTransactions system, I continued to keep the lines of communication open by frequently updating her about changes that would affect her agency. I also utilised the close working relationship the Department has with REIWA and asked them to speak to her about the benefits of eTransactions to the Real Estate Industry. Even though the Agent
I would like to participate in the SEAP program because I am passionate about engineering. I am completely absorbed with learning everything and anything related to STEM studies. My love of engineering and science intensified during my high school years due to my favorite classes like AP Chemistry and Principles of Engineering. Chemistry is undoubtedly the most challenging class my school has to offer. Nevertheless, every topic peaks my interest.
I walked into high school determined to become a teacher. I came out with a better understanding of myself and a new job in mind. When I crossed the thresh hold of Gibbs High School, I knew it was the time to find myself. I chose new classes that I knew nothing about including JROTC. I chose JROTC specifically because the rope bridges looked exciting and adventurous. When I finally got to try the rope bridge on for size, it wasn’t tied properly and fell while I was on it. This typically would scare someone away from the program, but it made me more determined. I was eager to learn and to grow from each experience I ran into in JROTC. Because of my dedication and willingness to learn, I rose through the ranks. I started my journey through the Chain of Command by becoming Public Affairs Officer. Once my
I bolted through the clear door of a small, earth-colored high school, practically slamming the door behind me. Catching my breath, I stood in the school completely drenched and shivering. Rain pounded on the clear door behind me. I stood awkwardly on a mat in front of the doorway, trying not to get the floor wet. I gazed around the hall in front of me. I couldn’t see staff in the office, nor were any students in the hallway or in the classrooms. The entire school was empty.
I would like to thank Salish Kootenai College for giving me the wonderful opportunity of applying for STEM academy. If somebody had told me that I would be applying for college classes as a sophomore, I would not have believed them. My parents have always told me that when an opportunity comes, you should take it, and I do not plan on letting this experience go to waste. Education has been a big part of my life, and this academy can only help me move forward. That being said, here are a few reasons why I should be considered a candidate for the STEM academy. Joining the STEM academy will allow me to further my knowledge and help me to get closer to my goals, my academic career would flourish, and I would be closer to my ambition for my future. I am determined to become the best and most educated version of myself that I can possibly be.
Business Communication for Success describes good writing as characterized by “correctness, ease of reading, and attractiveness; and yet also meets the reader’s expectations and is clear, concise, efficient, and effective. The rhetorical elements (logos, ethos, and pathos) and cognate strategies (clarity, conciseness, arrangement, credibility, expectation, reference, tone, emphasis, and engagement) are goals that are achieved in good business writing” [McClean. S., 2010]. Outlined below are 5 of these strategies found in Chapter 4 that are used in business writing:
First, I would like to thank you for considering me for this position. I think that I would be a great fit for the CIA, and the federal government. There are many reasons why I am interested in a position with the CIA. The first reason for this is that I have always had an extreme sense of pride for my country, from the minute I began thinking about what I wanted to do with my life as a child the first things that always came to my head were positions with the federal government, in organizations like the CIA, and I see this as a wonderful opportunity to achieve a lifelong goal. The second reason is that because I feel that my skill set, and where my knowledge is fits perfectly into a role inside the CIA. I am an Information Sciences student, but my interests are much more
