Every decision made by an employee or employer has ethical complications. All of these decisions made by an individual is caused by a person’s motives. These motives and intentions can be shaped by a company’s Code of Ethics. Due to this, ethics plays an important role in the workplace. A common ethical issue many companies face is bullying. This type of behavior can have a huge impact on an individual and an organization as a whole. Companies can reduce these behaviors and actions by implementing several features such as an effective Code of Ethics, ethical training, and a reporting system.

Because many of these people had been there for so long, they had already established their own "group." This made the new employees, like myself, feel like an outsider. They would often go out to lunch or events without inviting the new members. They even took advantage of the new employees and had them do their busy work. This would often include calling clients, filing, or giving out the mail. This was not our job, but because they were older and in the "in group," they thought they could. Because the company did not treat their new hires very well, this made me feel alone and unhappy at work. It came to the point where I dreaded going to work every day. These are the many signs of bullying in the …show more content…
The first prevention step is providing training in all appropriate areas in the company. This training should provide employees and employers an understanding of the problem and the impact it can have on an individual.
Step 3 Once employees and employers have a basic understanding of bullying and the affects it can have, companies should implement an anti-bullying program. This program should define bullying while providing examples acceptable and unacceptable behavior.
Step 4 One of the most important steps is empowering employees to take a stand against bullying. Many employees are aware that bullying takes place in their departments but do not speak up about the issue. Companies should provide training on how to effectively and safely respond to bullying in the workplace. The company could even create an anonymous reporting system for employees to speak up about an issue while protecting their name.
Step 5 After an effective reporting system is in place, the next step is to create a strong monitoring system. Beane explains how bullying typically takes place where there is a lack of supervision. Therefore, companies need to ensure they develop a supervision plan and training these supervisors on how to supervise effectively.

Workplace bullying is defined as any as any type of repetitive abuse in which the victim of the bullying behaviour suffers verbal abuse, threats, humiliating or intimidating behaviours, or behaviours that interfere with his or her job performance and are meant to place at risk the health and safety of the victim (Murray, 2009). Bullying can take many forms, some blatant, others more subtle. Researchers ha...

Dealing with the bullies would consist of you: Keep calm under verbal attack, respond quietly and coherently, do not hide the fact, ask colleagues, joint action, written record, confront the bully, ask them to stop, seek advice or initiate procedure (Olive, K., & Cangemi, J. 2015). Bullying is unacceptable- clear real revisited policy and robust procedures- timeless crucial. Name it challenge it report it- bullying thrives on silence (Olive, K., & Cangemi, J.
...e company to lose efficient employees and gain unnecessary extra costs. Even though there has yet to be an official law that specifically references workplace bullying, developments in the law are gaining momentum and hopefully, this will lead to a federal law in the next decade or so. But until that happens, because of the serious effects of bullying on employers and employees, it would be wise for companies to take internal steps to address workplace bullying through zero tolerance policies, training, and counseling. Bullying is a health and safety issue and employers have a responsibility to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of their workers. Most importantly, it must be noted that bullying can thrive only in a workplace environment that tolerates it. This is why the workplace should make it a priority to promote a safe, trusting, and healthy environment.
Downplaying bullying, saying things like “He was just joking around”, and “Don’t take things so seriously” can have serious repercussions. Some people are more fragile than others and react to this type of treatment with anger or violence. On the other hand, there are managers who rule with an iron hand and sometimes this pressure can cause an employee to crack.
Bullying is not act that is covered in any federal law yet, but all 50 states have anti-bullying policies. Bullying is a crime because it can cause bodily harm or mental anguish to the victim. What are some strategies that can be used to help hinder bullying? One suggestion is to implement an intervention program in schools. A Norwegian study published in The British Journal of Educational Psychology, aimed to “evaluate the effects of anti- bullying intervention program targeting group as a whole. Teacher who attended a one year training course carried out interventions in school classes.” The results were “a positive impact was found on several outcome variables (frequencies of bullies and victims, observing and experiencing bullying, attitudes, and efficacy beliefs)” Salmivalli.C, Kaukiane.A, Voeten. 2005). the success of the intervention program in this study has been put into practice all over Europe. In the United States the passing of new legislation relating to school based bullying policies is make punishments harsher for students who are caught bullying other students . “Although schools are governed by a complicated set of interrelated federal and state laws, the majority of policies and practices regarding disciplinary practices are crafted at the state and local levels.” “State laws have a greater potential to influence the policies
Bullying has always been a problem within the past century and has become an epidemic. However, because of social media people are becoming more aware of the issues associated with bullying and how it has become a trend in today’s society. You turn on the news and you are hearing about kids being bullied and the end result is suicide. Bullying is occurring worldwide. Not only is it happening in our schools and social networks, but also in the work place. The various types of bullying that exist and the attempt to entirely eliminate them is not achievable because of individual and environmental factors.
...of rule-setting against bullying should be implemented not only on an individual level, but on a classroom and school-level as well. "The school," says Dan Olweus, "has a responsibility to stop bullying behavior and create a safe learning environment for all students." He suggests a curriculum that constantly monitors abusive behavior, promotes kindness, acceptance of differences and educates teachers, school staff, parents and children alike about bullying and response strategies.
The first tier and arguably the most important is the students. Students should have an expectation of how to treat others and feel comfortable telling a teacher if there is a situation they need help with. Teachers should look out for early signs of bullying and think of an effective strategy to stop it. Personally, I believe that ‘team-based’ learning is the most effective method of reducing bullying. By creating a team atmosphere, students should be more encouraged to work together and give each other support to achieve a common goal. Offering incentives for everyone to perform well could distract students who are likely to bully their classmates. Next, administrators carry the important task of monitor student behavior trends and implement school policies to combat bullying. My suggestion for administrative policy against bullying is the ‘zero-tolerance’ method. Bullying in any form is unacceptable and should not be allowed on school
Every bully has different characteristics. As a result there’s no clear scheme or strategy that can stop the problem from ever occurring. By being able to spot deal with and offer long term bullying support you’ve targeted bullying at all junctures. Bullying can be taking care of no kid or teen needs to worry about being bullied when entering a school or entering social media sites. Kids and teens have to feel safe everywhere they go so they can have a good life and get through school without
Before I get started to read the chapters and watch the video that you asked us to watch I noticed that we would be discussing lesson plans, so I started to think of the importance of lesson plans. It is true that I did not teach before in real classroom, but as I student I could know if the teacher prepared well for the class or not. First, I think as a teacher before I started to teach my first class in my career I have to ask myself three question. The questions that every teacher has to ask himself or herself are why I want to teach, what I am going to teach and how I would teach. By asking myself why I am teaching, I will know the massage that teaching created for. In addition, it is important of teachers to cover the recommended resources
Bullying has become a serious problem in public schools systems. Being a victim of bullying is a daily struggle for some students. The issue continues to grow, but the question is how to stop bullying from occurring. Many ways have been attempted to stop bullying, but some are more effective than others. Having the students get involved seems to have the most positive effect on the bullying issue in public school systems.
