Bulling is one of the most talked about topics in schools across America. Anti-bulling campaigns and slogans are everywhere today. When you think of bulling, do you think of that poor little kid being pushed around by the bigger kids? Now think of workplace bulling, do you think of a grown version of that boy? The movie Horrible Bosses was released July 8th, 2011 and gives a perfect example of extreme workplace bulling. However, workplace bulling is more than a verbal abuse from a bulling boss. Workplace bulling can come in many forms of miss treatment, and not only by bosses but coworkers as well. Workplace bulling not only negatively effects the employee’s involved, but also has a negative impact on the organization. Unfortunately, workplace bulling can have a subtler side, that affects many workers on daily basses. According to author Maurer, some examples of workplace bulling are; hostile staring or nonverbal intimidation; using the “silent treatment”; starting, or failing to stop, destructive rumors or gossip about the person and many others. “In its more severe forms bulling triggers a host of stress- related health complications, such as hypertension, auto-immune disorders, depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder” (Maurer, 2013). Bulling could have negative impact of the person’s job and or career. The employer is also effected negatively by workplace bulling, For example; increased call ins, and high turnover rates.
