Right now, there is a high chance that all the youth in your house hold is entangle with technology; simply because technology seems to be ruling the world. These days there not a single moment when ours hands are apart from our phones, tablets, or laptops. We been so in bottled with technology, that we have become blind to it. Especially when it comes to our children’s education. These internet linked devices brings many unwanted distraction, create physical discomfort, and encourages students to cheat; education is where we need to give these inventions restriction.

Tablets and laptops are books that allows educator to teach tomorrow lesson today, while captivating its audiences in the world of education. These devices are versatile

tools that can tackle any learning style no matter if you are a visual (seeing), auditory (hearing), tactile (touching), or a kinesthetic (by doing) learner. This early use of technology in schools will allow this generation to take a step ahead of previous generations and the youth will be further prepared for future careers, colleges, and challenges that awaits them.

Matter fact, these devices have done such a great job in capturing its audiences; that nowadays majority of schools from K-12 are intergrading tablets and laptops into their classrooms. Unfortunately the apps that follow them does an ever better job in stealing the attention of these knowledge craved students. 87% of teacher believe that today’s digital technologies are creating an easily distracted generation with short attention spans. Are they wrong? Well they may not be too far from the truth. More kids this year has been diagnose with Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder or ADHD this year than any other year. The percentage of children with an ADHD diagnosis continues to increase, from 7.8% in 2003 to 9.5% in 2007 and to 11.0% in 2011. While the use of the internet have seen similar increases, 50.4% in 2003 to 54.7% in 2007 and to 71.7% in 2011. Looking at the growth of ADHD and the growth of the internet usages one could almost say that the two are directly correlated with each other. Tablets, phones, and laptops encourages us to use our multi- task skills without us even knowing it: Facebooks while teacher lectures, text and drive, and watch videos while cooking. Multi-tasking is a great skill, but multi tasting can work as a double edge sword if one can’t remember how to focus on one task.

This false exception of student’s skills would be eliminated and teacher would be able to strengthen our children’s weak areas. We can’t yell at our teachers for our kid’s performances when they are not train to teach google.

It’s understandable to want school to interact more with technologies. Especially when it is easy for us to for see a future of computers. We ourselves are living in the intro of that very future. In 2010 Software Engineer and Computer Systems Analyst stood at the top three careers. Within the state of Illinois the importance of Computer Occupations is even more pronounced, with 57% of all STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) jobs by 2018 being Computer Occupations, according to the Georgetown University Center. So without a doubt our world is changing; but, less at least make sure we are making changing that help us stand tall in tomorrow.
Qualifier
Phones, tablets and laptops brings great power to the classroom, but also creates destruction. If we are not willing to rethink our approach with them, then we mind a well get rid of them all together. Every student may not let these devices distract them, other may avoid any physical discomfort, and some will even resist the urge to cheat; however, that lucky child may not be yours. It’s time to open our eyes and see the truth, so we can have hope of protecting our love ones, our children, and future generations.
