Our personal lives have so many aspects that can affect one’s employment. Companies are starting to recognized that some added benefits may help in retaining some of their best employees when their personal life is affect by situations out of their control as is the case for Bobbi Ann. There are three quality of work options that would be most beneficial for her situation such as company provided child care, flextime work schedules, and flexplace.
Bobbi Ann has difficulty with arriving to work on time due to the hassles she has with her child care workers. If the company was to provide on-site child care, it would be easier for Bobbi Ann to commute straight to work knowing there is a place that is available for her son at the same location.

In response to the increasing need for employees to balance the demands of the workplace with the needs of families, Congress passed the Family and Medical Leave Act. Without a policy like FMLA in place, many employees often would have had to choose between “the job they need and the family they love” (Hayes). The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 is the first national law created to help Americans balance the demands of the workplace with the needs of the family. It successfully helps bridge the gap between family and work and secures the right for both men and women to get unpaid leave and assistance when dealing with family related circumstances.
An individual as a caregiver has more one-on-one time with a child as long as their group of children is small. A child could form a stronger bond with a smaller setting and possibly have less separation anxieties to deal with. Some parents feel the time spent with one person could benefit their child more than being with multiple caretakers. The cost of a caregiver usually is less than the traditional day care centers because there is less overhead, but there are not as many opportunities available to them. If a caregiver becomes ill or needs to take a vacation, it is the parent’s responsibility to have a back up to take care of the child during that time. A child with many health problems would possibly not be exposed to as many germs at an individual’s house because they would not come into contact with as many other children on a daily basis. On the other hand, individuals may be more lenient and allow children that are ill to attend. This could be a problem if the parents do not have family or friends that would or could care for the child during this time. A parent may have to miss work entirely to take care of the child, and with the loss of income could put the whole family at risk. A child may have problems at a babysitter such as discipline, allergies, other children, but unless they mention it to the parents they will not...
If illness or other emergencies should arise during child care hours, every attempt will be made to have a substitute so the daycare can remain open. Whenever possible, medical and personal appointments will be made after child care hours; however, if I must use child care hours to secure appointments, every attempt will be made to have a substitute. It is common knowledge that a parent is considered the most efficient caregiver for their children. It’s also known that with daily responsibilities of caring for a child financially, parents partake in full-time and/or part-time employment. While needing to do so, many children attend daycare/preschool facilities. Granted, it is the parent’s responsibility to cautiously select where they decide to take their children. This is because parents know that while they are away for numerous hours of the day, their children are in the hands of another care provider and that their care would have an enormous impact on their children. At a young age, a child’s social and cognitive skills are continuing to take shape and the amount of time spent in these facilities has a resilient impact on a child’s development. With proper and superior care no matter the time spent, such positive effects on a child’s development should endure in a child’s cognitive and social development.
