Establishing career goals can be essential as they may serve as milestones that lead to a successful career. Thus, I have created several career goals to concentrate my focus and enable me to maintain a structured plan. Ultimately, I aspire to have a career as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to enrich the lives of children with developmental disabilities. Before I can obtain this goal, many objectives will need to be completed. For instance, one career goal that I have is to become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). While I know I desire a career as a BCBA, I am aware of the option to become a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). I am also aware of various organizations that utilize BCBAs. For instance, The Scott Center for Autism Treatment on the Florida Tech campus is an ideal option to combine both in-class and hands-on experience in the field of ABA. Other local options that provide treatment include Kaleidoscope Interventions and its affiliated Puzzle Box Academy. While I have researched the career extensively, there are still things to consider. For example, while the Fast Track program appears to be ideal, a better option might be to complete my bachelor’s degree and work with clients for an extended period. Another choice I am currently debating is which organization to contact (for volunteer and internship opportunities). While I’ll strive to meet their needs, I also would like to find an organization that provides a variety of experiences. Although there are many great options for centers that treat developmental disabilities, I hope to select one that best matches my goals and reinforces my career choice.
The three most important career values to me from the SIGI values are contribution to society, leadership, and security. Contribution to society is important as I desire to have an impact on the society in a positive way. Helping children with developmental disabilities allows me this opportunity as I can partake in intervention treatments that may facilitate improvement and change, thus leading the individuals to expanded opportunities in school and future
