Strategic Objective The main Objective of Blue Apron is to enter the UK market. The UK market was chosen based on the fact that they are having rapid growth in consumer expenditure on food, drinks, and catering which was at a whooping £203 billion in 2016. This number is still growing making it a perfect investment for Blue Apron to move to. Also, UK consumer research also shows people are willing to pay more for a premium product. This making Blue Apron a great product and plan to take to the UK, as they use premium products and ingredients. Blue Apron should team up with Wal-Mart which is currently UK second largest supermarket. Wal-Mart doesn’t offer a meal plan kit of any sort however they do offer delivery. They offer high quality, healthier products at a fast pace. They are focused on the broad differentiation strategy. They differentiate themselves from their competition in many ways. You can chose to take it to go or sit down and dine in an alluring atmosphere. Some Panera Breads have fireplaces, cozy seating, higher quality furniture and gathering rooms to make you come in and relax or come in and do some work. These ‘locavores’ have grown in numbers as people have taken into account the health related, environmental, and economic consequences of choosing locally grown products. The key issues associated with the locavore movement are the economic effects and the change made in the environment of a community.
More and more farm-to-table restaurants, farmer’s markets, and food co-ops are cropping up to meet the demand among consumers for healthy, local foods, as more chefs and consumers recognize the poorer taste and nutritional integrity of ingredients shipped in from far away. Fruits and vegetables that have to be shipped long distances are often picked before they have a chance to fully ripen and absorb nutrients from their surroundings. Trends of moving toward supporting local food producers have increased over the years. People are looking for quality over quantity. “With the explosion of interest in local food, consumers now have more choices of products, labels, and ways to shop, so, many people are left wondering where to start” (Table, 2009). Buying locally supports sustainable food system, beyond just methods of food production and helps to increase food from farm to plate. Supporting locally drastically helps with the reduction of emissions and the negative effect that food traveling has on our environment.
Many customers will buy more package food in the future as it is cheaper and more convenience because customers can buy it in high volume and keep it for the long time.
Have you ever considered what is in the food you are feeding your children? Most foods that are bought at the neighborhood grocery stores are considered global foods which are packed with additives and chemicals making them far less nutritious than local produce from the community farmer‘s market. After much research, I have concluded that it is better to buy produce which is grown locally rather than produce which is sourced globally (from other countries). I think this is important because most people, like myself, buy global foods and do not realize how much better local foods are for the local economy, the global environment, and our personal nutrition. Nutrition is vital to the healthy of everyone especially children, so with the purchase of local fresh produce, it can ease the worry in parents of what children as well as ourselves are ingesting.
