Dear Academic Opportunity Program Selection Committee: I am writing to apply for the 2016 AOP Summer Biology Tutoring position. I believe that I will make a successful AOP Biology tutor for several reasons. First, I believe that through the experience I was exposed to during my own summer program, I picked up a lot of tools and tricks that I wished that I had known earlier in the summer. I can effectively convey these tools, such as successfully budgeting time throughout the day as well as during tutoring hours and savoring the summer experience. My experiences throughout AOP summer and the ones I have subsequently had make me an excellent candidate for the Biology tutoring position. I also anticipate that I will benefit just as much from the tutoring experience as the incoming class will. I am a strong believer that in order to definitively say that you fully understand any material, you have to be successful at conveying the information to others. With that being said, I can significantly improve my understanding of the material that is covered during the biology lectures. This would therefore enable me to be much more comfortable with it as I progress further at Union and as I potentially prepare to take the MCAT and attend medical school. Another characteristic that I hope to strengthen during the summer program is my ability to communicate information in varying ways. Every student has a different way of learning and comprehending information, and as the tutor, it will be my job to appropriately identify what type of learner each student is and meet his or her need through self-adaptation. If successful, then I will become much stronger at explaining and speaking to individuals who are not the same type of learner as me. This is a trait that I identified over my own AOP summer experience and have worked on ever since. Next year I hope to be an RA so that I can continue to encounter unique situations where in order to reach a common goal I must identify how to approach an issue, develop a strategy, and then finally achieve the
