After months and months of preparing for the big race, the day had finally come. It was a perfect summer day when Ronald Raptor and his friends Tiffany, Travis, and Barbra strolled up to the Blaze’N Race’N Track. However, someone else was on their way, too—a mean, green T-Rex by the name of Tyrone. Little did everyone know, Tyrone was jealous of Ronald. According to Tyrone, Ronald is successful, Ronald has friends, Ronald is cool, and perhaps most importantly, Ronald beats Tyrone in the big race every year. “This year will be different, for sure,” Tyrone thought, an evil smirk blooming across his face. “This time, I have a plan.” Across the lanes, racers started their engines. “3… 2… 1… GO!”(5) In a matter of seconds, the dinosaurs were around the bend. Even before the race began, everyone knew it would be a two-man match. They swerved in and out, and the fight for the lead alternated every few seconds. “I’m going to beat you today!” Tyrone shouted, flashing the same little smirks as before. “Not a chance,” laughed Ronald as rounded the second curve, leaving his main opponent in the dust. 200 meters left. Two hundred meters until …show more content…
With a quick prayer, Ronald sped ahead.(18) Dodging the bumps, hugging the curves, making the jumps, Ronald went along with ease.(8) The loopty loop was the final obstacle. Determined to win, Ronald put the pedal to the metal and with one last hurrah, he made it through, putting him back on the main racing circuit, dead even with Tyrone.(4) “You caught up,” said Tyrone “but I’ll see you later second place!” With one last push from the engine, Tyrone stopped. He was out of gas! Hoping to cease the opportunity, Ronald with ¼ a tank left, sped past the finish line and won!! Rushing to the finish line, Ronald’s friends ecstatically, hugged and congratulated him on his action packed

Racism is often considered a thing of the past, with its manifestation rarely being acknowledged in the United States today. Race: The Power of an Illusion, is a documentary that addresses the legacy of racism through its significance in the past, and its presence in society today. To understand racism, it is vital to understand the concept of race. Race is a social invention, not a biological truth. This can be observed through the varying classifications of race in different cultures and time periods. For instance, in the United States, race has long been distinguished by skin color. In nineteenth century China, however, race was determined by the amount of body hair an individual had. Someone with a large amount of facial hair, for example,
Race, gender, and socioeconomic status are enduring social characteristics that influence life outcomes and children and adolescents cannot control (Murphy, Gaughan, Hume, & Moore, 2010). With the unequal distribution of society’s resources based on race and gender and the negative view of African American males, African American males’ ability to access and complete college is hampered. Although athletics is often viewed as a way to improve one’s life chances, African-American male athletes perform worse academically than any of their peers (Murphy, Gaughan, Hume, & Moore, 2010), which threatens their college completion goals.
The story of Roger Bannister becoming the first to break the 4-minute mile barrier in 1954 is proof of positive thinking. He also used textbook application of goal setting and self-leadership to overcome this barrier. With the race being a long-term goal, Roger begin setting short-term goals to help him accomplish his goal. He starts with a workout consists of ten 440-yard sprints with 2-minute rest intervals in between. For each 440, he and his training partners set for 60 seconds. Over months of hard training, they were able to get close to 60 seconds with the average time of 61. By the end of April, they were able to beat the time by averaging 58.9 seconds over ten 440s. After this, Roger knew he was ready to break all odds. Roger also
The light turns red and you slowly come to a stop driving your 1992 GMC Syclone equipped with a 280 horsepower 4.3 liter V-6 teamed up with a four speed automatic transmission. The GMC Syclone is basically a sporty run-off of GMC's Sonoma. In the next lane, a brand spanking new Ford Mustang equipped with a 320 horsepower 4.6 liter V-8 pulls up. You seem to be feeling pretty spunky today, so you rev your engine signaling to the driver of the Mustang that you want to race. The other driver looks over, gives a glance at your GMC Syclone and begins to laugh. However, he goes ahead and revs his engine giving the go-ahead for a race.
Race: The Power of an Illusion was an interesting 3 part film. After watching this, it made me questioned if race was really an illusion or not. It is absolutely taboo to think that the one thing that separates people the most may be a myth in itself. “We can 't find any genetic markers that are in everybody of a particular race and in nobody of some other race. We can 't find any genetic markers that define race.” (Adelman and Herbes Sommers 2003). Racism is something created in the U.S made to create supremacy for the creator. Racism is not just the way someone thinks, it is something that has is manifested in our society to separate us and can be traced to our everyday activities.
The concept of race is an ancient construction through which a single society models all of mankind around the ideal man. This idealism evolved from prejudice and ignorance of another culture and the inability to view another human as equal. The establishment of race and racism can be seen from as early as the Middle Ages through the present. The social construction of racism and the feeling of superiority to people of other ethnicities, have been distinguishably present in European societies as well as America throughout the last several centuries.
Introduction We live in a society where race is seen as a vital part of our personalities, the lack of racial identity is very often an important factor which prevents people from not having their own identity (Omi & Winant, 1993). Racism is extremely ingrained in our society and it seems ordinary (Delgado & Stefanic, 2000). However, many people denounce the expression of any racist belief as immoral (Miles & Brown, 2003) highlighting the complicated nature of racism. Critical Race Theory tries to shed light on the issue of racism, claiming that racism is ingrained in our society both in legal, cultural, and psychological aspects of social life (Tate, 1997). This essay provides us with the opportunity to explore this theory and its influence in the field of education.
Dalton had succeeded at his duty and found one of the few open stores at this time, Burger King. So I started to drive and later asked him where I was supposed to go. He looked up the location on his GPS and saw that we had to drive all the way across town. Then Dalton being Dalton realized that Burger King closed in less than 10 minutes. Oh boy did we have a problem here, but wait, there’s more. My car was running low on gas, I only had a five mile range left in my fuel tank. I leaned over to Dalton and said, “Buckle up baby, its Tokyo Drift time.” I put the pedal to the medal and hit 200 mph in less than 10 seconds. I was blowing stop signs and
