Ponyboy was fourteen years old and he had two brothers that he lived with his older brother Darrel who they call Darry and his second older brother Sodapop who was sixteen going on seventeen. Ponyboy only live with his brothers because they mother and father was killed in a car accident. Ponyboy wanted to be like a movie star Paul Newman he wished he looked like him. Ponyboy always thought his brother Darry never cared about him or anything else. Ponyboy had a friend Jonny. Johnny was a Greaser too but he was the softest one but after he got jumped that changed he always carried a switchblade on him.
After he woke up, Darry and Sodapop went off to go to work, so Two-Bit agreed to take care of him. They went to buy Cokes “at the Tasty Freeze and rest up(114)”. As they were walking out of the store a blue Mustang pulled up. Randy and another Soc walked out of it. Randy wanted to talk to Ponyboy, so Ponyboy followed him to his car. He told Ponyboy that Bob didn’t just drunkenly jump Greasers when he was bored. Ponyboy learned that Randy didn’t like the conflict between the Socs and Greasers because “Greasers will still be Greasers and Socs will still be Socs(117)”.
3. This story is about a group of kids that are called Greasers, because they live on the East side of town, which is the lower income part of the city. They all slick back their hair with grease, and that’s where the name Greasers came from. Ponyboy Curtis is the main character in this story, and he has 2 brothers, one named Darry, and the other named Sodapop. One night Johnny and Ponyboy are out at the park, and a group of Socs, the nickname for Rich Kids, came by and started beating them up. One of them stuffed Ponyboy’s face into the fountain and tried to drown him, so Johnny stabbed him before he killed Ponyboy. The boy that he stabbed died, and so they went to a friend who gave them money and a gun to run away with. They ran away to an abandoned church, and one day Dallas, the friend who gave them the supplies came by and took them out to lunch, and when they returned the church was one fire. Johnny and Pony saved the kids inside, and a piece of wood fell on Johnny and he broke his back. He died in the hospital a few days later, and Dallas couldn’t take it so he robbed a grocery store and took out an unloaded gun when the police came, so they shot and killed him. After hearing a brief description of the story you might think that there aren’t many good things about they story. However, this is false, there are many good things in this book that makes it a good read. First being that it is a very intriguing book. This is good for teenage readers because often times they don’t willingly want to read, and this story will force the teenage or any reader to continue the book and continue reading the series. Secondly, this is a “good” book because it has a good balance of violence. This is a good thing because it provides readers with an exciting read. We hear and even see violence in our everyday life and I believe that it is something teenagers should be exposed to. This book gives children an insig...
The Outsiders, a timeless novel by S.E Hinton, is one that takes readers on a roller coaster of emotions. Hinton wrote the novel in her teen years and mainly targeted it toward young adult readers. However, the plot, the characters, and the action result in the novel being read and enjoyed by a universal audience. The story follows the lives of two rival gangs. The Greasers live on the East and poorer side of town; the Socs, short for Socials, live on the West and more affluent side of town. The story is narrated by the protagonist and Greaser, Ponyboy Curtis.
To demonstrate, “So I was there when they turned him over, and he was smiling, and the little rumble fish were flipping and dying around him, still too far from the river” (131). On the other hand, the modified ending to the film adaptation is appropriate and almost feels required. The lead up to the ending with the Motor Cycle boy wanting to prove his theory is such a crucial learning experience for Rusty-James, and it is disheartening to not see his theory flourish. One could argue that this ending is similar to The Chocolate War, in its cynical nature and important to show that not everything is hunky-dory. Despite that, I would still argue that this ending needed to occur. Rusty-James and the audience have to see the rumble fish swim away in their own separate paths in the river or else there would be no moral of the story. There would be no meaning in the Motor Cycle boy’s death or his sacrifice to demonstrate this theory to his brother. The only messages that could be taken away from this piece of literature would be to not get involved with the wrong crowd or becoming your own person despite the desire to contend with others or to follow in their footsteps. Now the latter of these seems adequate, but the lesson about separation and need for people to get along with one another is superior. Indeed, this ending shifts from the initial conclusion, but it still matches up with the overall atmosphere of Rumble
The main character, Ponyboy he is a greaser, part of the lowest-class kids who wear their hair long and greasy, wear blue jeans and ripped-up T-shirts. There is another group of kids called the “Socs”. They were the preppy kids, the rich ones, the goody-two-shoes.The “Greasers” and the “Socs” do not get along and have their daily brawls in the street. One day, as Ponyboy is walking home from a movie, he is jumped and beaten by a gang of Socs. At the last minute, his gang of greasers--including his brothers Darry and Sodapop, who raise Ponyboy. The next night, Ponyboy and Johnny go to a movie with Dally; they sit behind a pair of attractive Soc girls, whom Dally hits in his rude self. After Johnny tells him to stop, Johnny and Ponyboy sit with the girls, Cherry and Marcia.
The novel, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is about a boy named Ponyboy who belongs to a group called Greasers. There are 2 types of gangs in the novel; Greasers and Socs. The Socs look down on the Greasers because they had a low social status. Being an outsider produces a feeling of inferiority, isolation and even violence. In the following paragraphs these feelings will be fully explained.
The story opens with Ponyboy walking home alone from a movie; he is stopped by a gang of Socs who proceed to stop there car and beat him up. The Socs badly injure and threaten to kill Ponyboy; however, some of ponyboy’s gang happen upon the scene and scare off the Socs.
Fishing contains a wide variety of physics. when you cast you are using projectile motion and rotational motion. when you hook a fish it will often use the drag from the current agenst you. Immagine draging a fish through a swift current. You deal with the tention of your line, and the friction of the line through the guides. you also deal with friction when you use a drag.
A poem without any complications can force an author to say more with much less. Although that may sound quite cliché, it rings true when one examines “The Fish” by Elizabeth Bishop. Elizabeth’s Bishop’s poem is on an exceedingly straightforward topic about the act of catching a fish. However, her ability to utilize thematic elements such as figurative language, imagery and tone allows for “The Fish” to be about something greater. These three elements weave themselves together to create a work of art that goes beyond its simple subject.
In this book violence plays a large role in this story. The greasers live their life in fear of the Socs. The story focuses on both the mental and physical violence from abusive parents to bullying. [“Greasers can't walk alone too much or they'll get jumped, or someone will come by and scream "Greaser!" at them, which doesn't make you feel too hot
