The Muppet Movie is a highly self-aware musical comedy that challenges the concept of reality in the background of the film while delivering a classic road trip comedy that is highly reflective of 1970’s culture. The film begins with the muppets entering World Wide Studios to watch a screening of their first film, The Muppet Movie. The audience then focuses on the frame film that the characters are watching, which tells the story of how the muppets “more or less” met. The story begins with Kermit the Frog singing the opening number, The Rainbow Connection, alone in his swamp when a lost man advises him to go to Hollywood and become a star. Along the Way, Kermit meets Fozzie Bear, a failing stand-up comedian, who also dreams of heading west
The film that I watched was called The Bad News Bears. When I watched this film years ago, as a young teen I just saw it as a story about two baseball teams. One team, the Yankees, that had a good coach and played exceptionally well together. The other team The Bad News Bears, was just that bad. The players appeared to be similar to that of a group of misfits. These were the kids that will usually were chosen last in their gym class or just about anything else pertaining to sports. The Yankees started off winning most of their games because that’s what they did, win. At times, winning at any cost. The Bad News Bears, however started in the wrong direction. They lost their first few games by large margins while the other teams in
George Orwell's 1984 and The Lego Movie, are two texts which develop the theme that if one desires to obtain control one feels the need to alter feelings, capabilities and even the world seen in reality, which can result in a artificial society lacking the presence of human nature. In 1984 the Party of Oceania and the antagonist, President Business in The Lego Movie portray similar characteristics and goals which connect to the theme. In 1984 the ideology of thoughtcrime and the cotton swab in The Lego Movie portrays similar meanings which connect to the theme. In both the pieces of literature, there are totalitarian controlled communities. They are both controlled by hierarchies who's only determination is perfection and complete control over their society. In 1984, the Big Brother and the Party have total control over their society by asking the citizens to perfect the ideology of thought crime. They have the perfect vision of a society where people only love and worship the Party. In the Lego Movie, President Business wants to have a perfect society who only follows the rules given to them by him; if what he wills is not fulfilled he uses a cotton swab to perfect the blemish which would make his society perfect. In this society there are TVs everywhere displaying propaganda and there is also a 24/7 surveillance system. The two hierarchies illusion of a perfect society to obtain control, requires the loss of human nature and human creativity. This consequently involves the sacrifice of freedom of thought, speech and the expression of emotions .
Wreck It Ralph is an animated Disney movie that takes us beyond the arcade screen, through power cables and surge protectors to the innerworkings of the arcade, where the main character, Ralph, travels to different video games to earn a medal and prove himself a hero. Along the way, Ralph meets and befriends a young glitch prone racecar driver named Vanellope in the game of Sugar Rush. Together they go on a wild adventure to help Vanellope win her game’s big race to prove herself the racer she knows she is, and Ralph to be the hero he knows he is. Wreck It Ralph uses multiple sociological principles in the movie, and in the end, teaches us not to judge one another, but instead to accept each other for the good and the bad.

Most people can remember playing with Legos at some point in their lives. From 1958-2013, 650 billion Lego bricks were manufactured and sold in 130 countries, making Legos one of the most popular childhood toys. In more recent years, with digital technology on the rise, Lego’s have a become popular subject in video games and movies. The Lego Movie was the first movie centered around Legos to use a fully CGI animation style. While The Lego Movie may at first appear to be an average children's movie, it's storyline goes much deeper than that most movies marketed primarily to families, allowing it to quickly become one of the most sold movies of 2014. Through the use of creative cinematography which helps reinforce the storyline, as well as an ingenious adaptation of an Orwellian society, based upon capitalist values and extreme conformity, The Lego Movie pushes a pro-libertarian, anti-capitalist message, hidden behind the innocent facade of children’s movie.
The mindset of white liberal feminists contributes to the omission of other women in their fight for individual rights. Thelma and Louise (1991) is an example of how white liberal feminism can illustrate and advocate for the liberation of women whilst excluding other women of different races, classes, and other given circumstances that don’t fall into the typical white heteronormative narrative. The film shows a one-sided account of establishing individual rights as a woman. While the film shows the liberation of Thelma and Louise from the oppressive men in their lives, in the following I will discuss how the exclusion of people of color in the film establishes that liberation is exclusively for one “kind” of women. I will show how the subjects
“Crash” by Paul Haggis is a story that follows the lives of several people over a 36 hour time period. It followed how race and discrimination affected these people 's lives throughout Los Angeles and how each of them were intertwined in some way, shape, or form. This was my first time viewing the film and I actually really enjoyed it. I felt as if it was pulling at my emotional side while also being suspenseful. I really appreciated how it followed the lives of very different people and I think that the director did a really good job of portraying how racial discrimination affects people’s everyday lives. I usually watch boring movies in my classes, however, I was really interested in finishing this one.
Toy Story is the groundbreaking 1995 motion picture developed by Disney and Pixar and directed by John Lasseter. The film was so revolutionary not only because it was the first feature length animation to be created completely by CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) but also, also the film was more rounded in all respects. The characters not only looked more sophisticated and three-dimensional but their personalities were also more human and fewer cartoons like. The film uses a constructed text in order to put across a theme of two very different characters learning to work together beyond their rivalries to rise above a common enemy and work towards a common goal. The film uses characters and imagery very cleverly to portray this theme. The music used in the film is also different to other Disney features. Rather than the characters bursting into song themselves as in Aladdin or Hercules, the songs are played and sung by an outside person (Randy Newman) and reflect the mood and emotions of the characters in a particular scene. For example, the title sequence song “Friend in Me”, when Woody and Andy are playing together, and the scene where Andy’s room has been made over to a Buzz Lightyear theme, “Strange Things” where the song reflects Woody’s confusion and fear not only about the change in his surroundings but also the change in his friends and his own character and self-confidence. The attention to the smallest detail for example the reflections in Buzz’s visor give the film even more realism and depth. The use of unusual and imaginative camera angles, made possible by the use of CGI, also adds to the texture and pace of the film.

My first experience with a carnival ride was a Ferris wheel at a local fair. Looking at that looming monstrosity spinning the life out of its sardine-caged occupants, I was dumbstruck. It was huge, smoky, noisy and not a little intimidating. Ever since that initial impression became fossilized in my imagination many years ago, these rides have reminded me of mythical beasts, amazing dinosaurs carrying off their screaming passengers like sacrificial virgins. Even the droning sound of their engines brings to mind the great roar of a fire-breathing dragon with smoke spewing from its exhaust-pipe nostrils.
