I like to think of myself as psychologically healthy in most respects. There is no one part of my life that greatly out weighs any other. I have a history of mental instability’s, but I have worked through my problems in that area. I am in control of my emotions and the affect they have on my life and the lives of the people around me. Spiritually I believe I am healthier than many of my peers, but that is only because of my “religion”. Like everyone else, I have good days and bad days, but I think I manage my bad days very well comparatively, and I am able to enjoy my good days without difficulty. When I was suffering from depression however, I did not have any good days, and my bad days were more than bad, they were hopeless.
I have suffered from bi-polar depression since I was ten. This means that I could be having a perfectly fine day (for someone with depression) and without warning I could have an onset of serious depression, and become so unsociable and bitter that I would drive everyone away from me. For five years of my life I only had one or two real friends who I could turn to and trust that they would support me through whatever was going on. I saw a psychologist and worked through my problems, and now I am happier than ever with myself. Since I have gotten over my depression my life has been on an upward swing, I have a new perspective on things and I am much more at ease with the world.
Many teenagers are ruled by their emotions, this can lead to a very unhealthy social life. I feel that I am in almost total control of my emotions. If something evokes an emotion in me that I feel is inappropriate or exaggerated, I am able to simply tuck it away for the time being. I have developed a way of “saving” my emotions; I will have an emotion, stick it in the back of my mind, and later that night as I am asleep I will “dream it out”. With this method I am able to deal with my feelings however I want. Once I have dealt with my emotions in my dreams, I no longer feel the burden of them on my conscience.
My spiritual health is to objective for me to judge alone, yet I do not think anyone else is in a position to judge it for me.
Teenagers often act on impulses. Teenagers are still young and in between the adult and tenn stage. This often leaves teenagers emotions and acts to but unpridicatble and to fir them to act on impulse.

Although I can hide these factions of my life fairly well sometimes I do slip and it becomes very noticeable. The main way I feel I can combat this emotion strife is to find ways to motivate myself. The best way to do this is to seek professional help when I need it and to spend time with people who make me happy and motivated. By engaging in happy and friendly activities with family, friends, and loved ones I should be able to build up optimism. In doing so fighting low self esteem and low self confidence will be easier and almost immediate. Thus working on these factors will motivate and assist me in accomplishing my overall target behavior of doing regular check-ups and recognizing symptoms of disease.
Mental health can described as being the psychological state of someone who is functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioural adjustment; this refers to our mental and emotional well-being. Once hearing that someone is mentally unhealthy, or has a mental illness, usually their first reaction is one of concern, fear, or confusion.
Mental health is being aware, accepting yourself, and striking a balance in all aspects of your life like social, spiritual, physical, economical, and mental (Association, 2001). Mental health can be described as our positive interactions with the context and events in our life, and having the ability to cope with life’s stressors. Mental health problems can begin at anytime during your life (CAMH, 2010). In fact anything can make it difficult for an individual’s ability to interact effectively, and may lead into a mental health problem (Association, 2001).

The one fact of which we are painfully aware of is that bipolar disorder severely undermines its victims ability to obtain and maintain social and occupational success. Because the symptoms of bipolar disorder are so debilitation, it is crucial that we search for possible treatments and cures.
As Paul Thompson states in his article Startling Finds on Teenage Brains from the Sacramento Bee, published on May 25, 2001, “.These frontal lobes,which inhibit our violent passions, rash action and regulate our emotions, are vastly immature throughout the teenage years.” He also says that “The loss[of brain tissue] was like a wildfire, and you see it in every teenager.”. This loss of brain tissue plays a role in the erratic behavior of teens, who cannot properly assess their emotions and thoughts. During this period of brain tissue loss, teens are unpredictable, adults do not know what their teen’s next move will be, teens themselves do not even know what their next move will be. As we grow our brains develop, therefore teen brains are not fully developed, so they cannot be held to the same standards as adults.
Everyone has struggles and challenges in their lives that they're trying to overcome and accomplish. Having to deal with mental illness on a daily basis affects one's ability to be “normal” and have a social life is my challenge. I deal with depression and anxiety, from time to time i'll have my anxiety attacks and depression will hit me like bullet out of nowhere. It has gotten so deficient to the point where throughout my four years of highschool I miss so many school days because I can't feel anything, my mind goes absolutely blank and not even therapy can help, that I can't get up to go to school. As in the story told,“there was no little oxygen reaching my brain..”(Krakauer 218).That is how it feels when both anxiety and depression hits.
Clinical depression is very common. Over nine million Americans are diagnosed with clinical depression at some point in their lives. Many more people suffer from clinical depression because they do not seek treatment. They may feel that depression is a personal weakness, or try to cope with their symptoms alone. On the other hand, some people are comfortable with admitting their symptoms and seeking help. Such a discrepancy may account for the differences in reported cases of depression between men and women, which indicate that more than twice the numbers of women than men are clinically depressed. According to the numbers of reported cases of depression, 25% of women and 10% of men will have one or more episodes of clinical depression during their lifetimes.
Regardless of the person whether male or female who has developed the symptoms of depression, their lives have been invaded by a sickness that can have a devastating effect on their lives; depending on how severe their symptoms are. If left untreated the end result could have an even more devastating effect. Luckily, there are treatments available that are successful.
I fought a war with myself and I am so proud to say that I am still standing here today due to my perseverance. I recognize that depression was a significant part in my life that shaped who I am now. I know that because of it, I am more careful in the words choose, I pick up on emotions easily, I know how to console people, and the list goes on. Despite depression being a major part of my identity for 15 years, I am proud to say that I am journeying through my life finding who I am without it. However, one should not be discouraged because of what they lack, but look forward to the improvement we are capable of bringing to our own lives. Becoming more spiritual will always be beneficial. Anytime one can improve their relationship with God one can improve their life astronomically. Emotional wellness is possible even for those who have been through horrible experiences. Practicing emotional wellness can bring healing. Physical and nutritional wellness will lead to a longer, pleasanter life and social wellness will make that life worth living. Sharing a well life with family, friends, and God will make time on this earth an irreplaceable experience.
