C. Rationale- While the “old snack” did have a whole fruit included, however, it did not state what type of crackers were using, or the portion size. I substitute it for 2 oz. of fat-free plain yogurt that contains, Calcium, Potassium, Sodium, Copper, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Selenium and Zinc; it also contains, Vitamin A, B12, C, Folate and Choline. In addition, I added ½ cup of blueberries that contain, Calcium, Potassium, Sodium, Copper, Magnesium, and Phosphorus; In addition to, Vitamin C and K, Folate, and Choline. By replacing

Moreover, it includes, Vitamin E, Vitamin B6, Folate, Niacin, and Choline. In addition, celery sticks contain, Calcium, Potassium, Sodium, Copper, Magnesium, and Phosphorus; Furthermore, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Folate, and Choline. By replacing it, it contributes to the balance of the week’s snack choices. By doing this substitution I will provide children with a higher quality nutritional value snack. Everyone is looking for better and healthier life! People today pay more and more attention to the food they eat, they want it to be healthy and tasty, on the other side modern life is so dynamic and eventful, that the food must be fast. So you need to come up with something that will support all these needs. The great solution is Frozen Yogurt. It is a refreshing, savory dessert that combines the flavors and textures of ice cream and sherbet. Frozen yogurt is a new-comer in the dessert market. Nevertheless, “the history of frozen desserts dates back thousands of years to Asia where water ices were first made.’’ (wiki) Yogurt was brought to the U.S. in the early 1900s and steadily increased in popularity as a health food item over the next several decades. By the 1970s, with the popularity of ice cream technology was transferred to the production of frozen yogurt. But it’s entry into the dessert market was a distinct failure—consumers complained that it tasted too much like yogurt. Relaying on consumer demand for a sweet product that tasted like ice cream, TCBY opened its first store in 1981. The highest popularity comes to Fro-yo by the mid 1990s. But in the late 1990s as Americans turned their attention to high-protein, high-fat diets, demand for frozen yogurt slowed considerably. Low-fat foods such as frozen yogurt fell out of favor as food trends preferred higher fat and lower cost ice cream at the turn of the millennium. Trends changed back to frozen yogurt in the mid 2000s with the advent of live probiotic powder-based mixes. Over the last decade the production of frozen yogurt has grown multi-million dollar business with dozens of competing companies.
Nutri-Grain cereal bars were created by the Kellogg Company and first introduced in the 1970’s Australia. They were later introduced to the United States and other countries. As more women began to work outside the home, the ritual of a family breakfast became obsolete as many individuals turned to quicker solutions for breakfast. The Nutri-Grain bar soon became popular as the on-the-go snack during the 1990’s. The cereal bar also comes in a variety of flavors that kids love, from blueberry to strawberry yogurt and has the texture a soft, homemade cookie. Most people that own Betty Crocker’s sixth edition cookbook use it because of its simple, user friendly recipes that have readily available nutrition information. The cookbook has a wide variety of recipes to construct for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is helpful for both food preparers that are unsure what to make and for those that know what they want. Even when making a recipe from a different cookbook, the Betty Crocker cookbook’s yield and equivalent list can be valuable when deciding if there is enough of an ingredient. Statics from the US Census Bureau reveal that just under half of all 3-4 year old children attended preschool in 2013. This is the also the same year that most school districts across the country adapted to a full day of kindergarten, rather than a half day. This means that children now will be expected to handle a 6 hour day of learning and, consequently; for those children who do not attend preschool this could be a real challenge. Preschool not only helps a child with social and emotional skills, it also provides a strong foundation for academic learning. It gives them an opportunity to become familiar with routine in a structured learning environment and can help make the transition to a full day of kindergarten even easier. Yet, there are still some parents who feel -- for many reasons, preschool is unnecessary and choose not to send them.
Soda’s are leaving vending machines and being be substituted with less-sugary drinks, bread is being substituted for whole wheat and milk is being substituted to fat free milk. First Lady Michelle Obama took it into her own hands to provide the United states children with food that meets nutritional standards. “Through the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act championed by the First Lady and signed by President Obama, USDA made the first major changes in school meals in 15 years, which will help us raise a healthier generation of children.” (Leonard). Healthy Hunger- Free Act went into effect in 2012 some of the changes were that meals needed 5 components: grain, meat, fruit, vegetable, and milk. Students MUST take at least 1/2 cup of fruit OR vegetable for a meal.

Each daycare has their own menu for the children’s breakfast and lunch. Through my observations, I have noticed that the “Don’t Worry Childcare” has a variety of food options throughout the month. For example, the children could either choose from fruit loops cereal, or frosted flakes for breakfast. The snacks eaten varies every day as well. For instance, the children ate milk and cookies one day, and cheese crackers another day. An example of lunch would be, milk, chicken fingers, French fries, green beans, and mixed fruit one day, and spaghetti, corn, peaches, and bread and butter another day. I observed the children eat ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, and peaches one day for lunch. All those food options seemed very delicious. Preschool isn't just a place for parents to drop off their children while they are at work for the day. It is in preschool where children learn the necessary skills needed to succeed in school and in life. With high-quality preschools and qualified teachers the possibilities are endless. It's not only the children who reap the benefits of Early Childhood Education; their parents, fellow peers, and even society feel the positive effects of quality preschool programs. Children enrolled in quality preschool programs are more likely to succeed academically and socially when they are older.
There is a global crisis arising from the poor eating habits which the majority develop at an early age, and stick to, for the rest of their lifetime. Every year, many individuals lose their lives from the complications related to poor eating lifestyle such as obesity. The schools are the foundation of every discipline and lifestyle that people adopt, and so for the nation to have a healthy lifestyle free from health related complications, the first and foremost step, is to avoid junk food in schools such as soda, candy, and cakes among others. So, thanks are to the 2012 mandate for changing the school menus from junk food to healthy foodstuffs including fruits and vegetables.
I believe that parents, caregivers, or anyone that has contact with a toddler should know about what nutrition they need and why local produce is better for the toddler. I choose toddler’s nutrition because in psychology class, we are studying their development, so something as simple as what fruits and vegetables they eat can affect all points throughout the toddler’s life. In addition, my sister is pregnant so as the aunt of the child, I feel I have the responsibility in helping my younger sister and teaching her nutrition for her baby.
