Livability Indices

Livability gives an overview of how the life of the future generations of a community is

assessed. It also helps the multinational corporations to set up their works in the areas where the

availability of work force is available and the ranking of the livability of the area. The livability of an

urban realm is defined by interactions between the two dynamics of social and environment

interactions.

The components of livability are cost of living, public transport and roads, safety and security,

culture and night life. These components measure infrastructure and comforts but a city is more than

that as it is made up of people.

There are many factors which are influenced by a different factors. The different factors are classified

are normative quality of life, objective quality of life, subjective quality of life.

Normative quality of life refers to the factors or norms which we believe it would lead to a

good life. Objective quality of life refers to the objectives but whereas the subjective quality of life

refers to the how an individual wants the life to be or the norms to be. These three factors contribute

to the livability index but they all play an equal and important role.

The actual scenario is that the role of subjective norms is very less which consists of norms

such as trust, openness, innovation, creative etc. are not considered as there is no proper scale to

convert them into normative value which is a main problem.
