There are some actions of some users that are not beneficial to businesses. Although Facebook is necessary and advantageous for business needs, it is not perfect. There are problems that would occur and failures that would happen. The downside of advertising in Facebook is that there are people who are capable of posting anything negative on anyone’s fan page. While interacting with customers in Facebook may be pleasing to hear, there are some people who might produce a bad image towards your business. Therefore a business fan page needs to be checked from time to time to prevent any unwanted attention, false allegation and such (Webster). Those who use Facebook may encounter these particular users when they attempt to market their products or services in Facebook and such users may cause great problems towards the image of the business. Those users might be from competitors who have fake profiles to hide their identity according to some studies. They might comment negative things towards a fan page and accuse them of false allegations because of the reason to destroy their reputation. In addition to that, there are also users who are nuisance and these are spammers. Spammers are users who send a bulk of messages in an indiscrete manner. There are also Joy buyers. As the website gained traction and users it needed to become a business and generate revenue. Naturally the website added advertisements in order to begin to make money. Eventually advertisement firms discovered that targeted advertisements generate more revenue than non-targeted. This leads the firms to buy user data which Facebook has been collecting. This becomes a symbiotic relationship, where the only person who does not benefit is the user whose data is sold. User’s arguments are relatively weak though, because they sign away their right to selling their data when they agree to the terms of use. Ericsson references an interesting dynamic about groupthink “a lie as a psychological phenomenon within decision-making groups in which loyalty to the group has become more important than any other value”. With this group thought process dangerous outcomes can occur. If a group of people are involved in a website, like Facebook, they feel more comfortable with the idea that their data may be sold. This is due to the group dynamic similar to the “we are all in this together” mentality. It takes individuals to step back and think about what they think about the system.
