Today more than ever before people are finding ways to connect to friends, family and even people they just met with the means of social media. Social media has become such an important part of the lives of young adults today.
Social media an online platform that is known to keep people connected and also helps them know of the happenings around yet still keeping them hooked and entertained. Social media is also known as websites and applications that are dedicated to forums, microblogging, social networking and wikis. Social media is split into two parts the “social” part and the “media” part. Facebook is a social networking service launched in February 2004, owned and operated by Facebook, Inc. As of September 2012, Facebook has over one billion active users, out of which 241 million users are from India alone which shows that Facebook has its highest number of users from India. Users must register before using the site, after which they may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile.
Facebook is beneficial to one's social life because they can continuously stay in contact with their friends and relatives, while others say that it can cause increased antisocial tendencies because people are not directly communicating with each other. But some argue that Facebook has affected the social life and activity of people in various ways. With its availability on many mobile devices, Facebook allows users to continuously stay in touch with friends, relatives and other acquaintances wherever they are in the world, as long as there is access to the Internet.
