People who find joy in continuous learning and the sharing of that information are who we know as teachers. They also aid in preparing students for life after graduation by planning lessons on subject related content, assessing students to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses, working with some individual students to challenge them, and ultimately in America, preparing them for standardized tests. Particularly science teachers, their job is more than just atoms, elements, and molecules but it is about advancing a student into thinking critically, being investigative, problem solving, and learning how to successfully work in teams/groups. Depending on an individuals’ state, there are certain qualifications one must hold to gain recognition as a science teacher.
One must obtain a Bachelor’s degree, preferably within the course planned to teach; biology, chemistry, or any of the natural sciences. Once that is complete state’s licensure and certification requirements must then be met. Here in Texas you must take and pass the appropriate certification exams for the subject and grade level you intend to teach and then commit to a long life of continuous learning. It is recorded that people who fit the bill of a teacher possess some common personalities such as outgoing, sensible, logical (science) and organized. Some of their qualities consists of great communication skills, resourcefulness, public speaking abilities, and patience.
Upon becoming a certified educator, one may then begin to experience the advantages of being a teacher. The number one, in my opinion, advantage is making a difference. The aim in recruitment of highly qualified science teachers should not be to fill spaces quickly due to the need but to take extreme caution, carefully and strategically placing individuals in these positions. It is believed that there should be close attention paid to the very beginnings of formal preparation regarding teaching and in that respect a study shows the low number of teachers resulting in retention practices. Among the many pages of information regarding the recruitment process of science teachers, the main point is to consider how very important having highly qualified individuals teaching our students start with programs and policies that support educators in creating more challenging and innovative practices that reveal possible science teachers.
