After the first lesson, I feel that there is definitely the positive and negatives to the lesson and there is still a lot of aspect to coaching a sport I need to learn about. One aspect that I learnt from this first lesson is defiantly being flexible and adaptable. This is important for physical education teachers and teacher in general as there are no two days the same, so being flexiable and adapatble is vital (Robinson, 2014). An possible examle is unsuitable weather conditions.
Some of the students did not have much experience dealing with a basketball. Hence, I had decided that for the warm up they will get use to holding the ball and running just to start off. However, I had noticed that this was too easy for them. As my assumptions were wrong about their level of prior knowledge and skills in basketball. As stated before, I felt that my lesson was too structured. Therefore to improve the warm up and simultaniously plan my lesson less structured, next week I will give options for the students.
Prior to this lesson I had also made sure to learn and gain more Knowledge about basketball. I believe that it is very important as this can enhance the quality of the lesson (McGee & Fraser, 2012). This has impacted on my outlook on the students, I have learnt that it is important to not underestimate the children, always have high expectation on them and believe in them. As a physical education teacher I now understand that with this mindset, and furthermore with extra encouragement ,the children will feel this positivity and will motivate them to do their best (McGee & Fraser, 2012). As a classroom teacher, this is really important to be implemented into the classroom as well as it can be a stimulus and motivation for them as
Joes High School’s total enrollment consisted of sixteen girls, and twenty boys. Ten of the boys that had enrolled there played basketball. All of the boys were over six feet tall. Lane Sullivan, the new coach of the basketball team, had never even touched a basketball before he started coaching. Sullivan had never coached anything at all before he started coaching the Joes basketball team. In order to gain knowledge about the sport, he got a book about it. He started coaching in 1927, but before the 1928 basketball season, Joes High School didn’t even have a gym. Instead, they’d practice outside on a dirt court, and two times a week they’d take a bus to the nearest gym, which was ten miles away. In order to play home games, the boys had to play in the local dance hall. The “court” was nowhere near regulation size, and the ceiling was so short that the boys couldn’t shoot an arched shot. The people who attended these basketball games had no place to sit and watch the game, the all stood around the edges of the court and on the small stage. Joes High School finally got their own gym around Christmas time because the people of Joes donated their time and material in order to make it happen.
To be a successful teacher not only in physical education but in all classroom settings you must be able to fully stimulate your students to think critically about the problem at hand. In sports thinking critically and making split second decisions can be the difference between winning and losing; through repetition students will be able to better identify which situations call for which moves. This ability to identify one's current situation in a given activity and react appropriately is referred to as tactical awareness; this is the basis for the tactical games model. Through implementing the tactical games model in your classroom your students will better understand not only the games being played but the tactics that are universal to all sports.

While trying to come up with a brilliant and fun game for these young men, Naismith reminisced back on his childhood in Canada. He remembered a game his friends and him had played all the time: “Duck on a Rock”, which involved trying to knock a large rock off a boulder by throwing smaller rocks at it. Naismith also remembered watching a game of rugby going on in the gymnasium. The game of Rugby involved tossing a ball into a box. Little did he know the game that he came up with just so happened to be one of he most renowned sports in American history. Naismith’s idea pertained to nailing up raised boxes so that players could attempt to throw a ball in the basket. When there were no boxes too be found, he used peach baskets. ...e you a great shooter. Although I suffered injuries in my past basketball career which earned me a basketball scholarship to play collegiate basketball, I am now more knowledgeable about my position. This knowledge has helped me reflect on myself and my experiences as a player transitioning to a coach. I believe it is important that I educate my players and teach them proper mechanics but also mental set. Acknowledge that the jump shot is more than a motion of physical ability and talent, it takes a great amount of thinking and implying the information you already know to what you learned. All coaches throughout the country regardless of their level should have knowledge of biomechanics and require there staff to also know the following information. This allows the opportunity for kids to learn the correct technique, prevent injuries, and transform them as a player.

Why they need to know the basics of basketball is because of their age they are young and probably have never played before and starting at the very basics is the best thing a coach can do for them which is teamwork. Once there was a little boy who loved to play sports, although he was never naturally talented at them. He was never the fastest, never the strongest, and most definitely never the most coordinated. He liked to play all sorts of sports; basketball, baseball, soccer, football, and track. But one sport stood above all, and that was basketball. Which was ironic because that was probably the sport he was least naturally talented in. That little boy was me.
