Once there was a little boy who loved to play sports, although he was never naturally talented at them. He was never the fastest, never the strongest, and most definitely never the most coordinated. He liked to play all sorts of sports; basketball, baseball, soccer, football, and track. But one sport stood above all, and that was basketball. Which was ironic because that was probably the sport he was least naturally talented in. That little boy was me. Before I moved to Worland, Wyoming, I lived in Idaho and never played any sort of organized sports, but every time I watched the Denver Broncos or Utah Jazz play, I knew I wanted to be doing that. Once I was in Worland, I began to play a lot of football at recess with my friends, this grew my …show more content…
The problem was, that I was not particularly coordinated. I had trouble shooting and even sometimes making a layup. I played from my 3rd grade year all the way up till my 6th grade year in the recreational league, where I, understandably, did not receive much playing time. That next summer, going into my 7th grade year, I worked so hard to improve. I shot hundreds of shots a day on my shaggy little basketball hoop, that was mounted very loosely. I dribbled everywhere I went, I never wanted to stop. I knew that if I was going to make the A team, the middle school equivalent to the varsity team, that I needed to make layups at a consistent rate, so, at least in my 12 year old mind, I performed thousands, possibly even millions of layups a day. I felt good going into my first day of 7th grade basketball practice. And I was right to feel that way because I made the A team as the first guard, or small player, off of the bench. My 8th grade year, however, my coach felt I was best as the starting point guard for the B team. On this B team, I was a star, I was the best scorer, defender, and passer. It felt good to play a lot, but I still wanted to be up with the best of the best
One of NBA’s all time All Star favorites, Michael Jordan, was not just about basketball all his life. Experiences in his childhood and early teens brought him to that life. His actions as an adult got him to where he is now...a millionaire. Michael Jordan was one of the best basketball players who had some bumps in his life, but overcame them to become a successful man.
Beginning as a freshman I started every game never, but to sit on the bench unless there was a major problem. This repetitious cycle mirrored itself over and over again until there was a problem, physically, with my body. I had felt a pain in my back that ran down my leg for some time, but no one other than me knew of this pain. I am a very strong willed and determined person, not letting pain stand in my way. The pain started to vaguely effect my everyday activities, such as walking across Wal-mart which put me in agonizing pain. The only way I played basketball with this pain was by focusing on the goal I was out to achieve.
Most players that enter the NBA draft early are 19 or 20 years-old. They are going to end up playing against 25-year-olds that are stronger, faster, and that have had more experience than they have. Along with more experience, they will not be as physically fit because one or two years of college will not do it, and high school will not do it. For example, Lebron James. He is considered one of the best to have played the game, and he went straight out of high school. Imagine if he had gone to college, he would be so much better. So if they leave after the freshman or sophomore year, they will be about five or six years behind and that will make it harder to get a spot on the bench. If they do not make it to the bench, then they will be in the D league for 2 or 3 years to help develop their skills. “The D-League uses a tiered compensation system that's based on experience. Players with ample NBA
Basketball is a great sport for people that like to run because basketball involves running up and down the court.. Some people like basketball because they like the idea of the sport or the competition. Most people have something specific that they like about basketball. We have two gyms that we practice in. The “New Gym” has a distinctive smell. I think it smells like sweat and hard work. We always have worse practices in the new gym. I like practicing in our main gym. The good part about the new gym is that there are no stairs in the new gym. In the main gym, we must run stair laps, they are awful. Instead of running stairs in the new gym we must run down and backs.
I figured that I had grown about five inches since my freshman year and had gotten stronger it might be time to play basketball competitively once more. When November rolled around I was on the varsity team, but unfortunately my basketball skills was not up to par. It was tough at first, because I was a new face on the team, and the guys on the team had a great chemistry that they had built up throughout the years. After a few weeks had rolled by, I realized that I would not be in the rotation.I told myself that the team’s success is more important than my personal desired statistics.I decided to make the most of my role on the team. It was a tradition for the guys who were not in the rotation to contribute to the game in some way, guys did this by preforming stunts after significant plays and momentum shifts in the game in our favor. This was great because the crowd loved and it and more importantly my teammates fed off of the
There are many things that have molded me into the person I am today such as being born into a family with four children. With three siblings, I have been forced to be able to work out problems from stealing each other’s toys to having to rush to the emergency room to get stiches because my brother chased me around the house and I tripped. My mother, father, brother, and two sisters were all born in Pennsylvania and I am the odd ball and I was born in Adrian, Michigan. From when I was a child I always loved being involved with sports because of my competitive nature. I grew up playing soccer and having success with that but then my love changed and I began playing lacrosse and football. I started playing lacrosse in middle school and played
A growing concern in the United States is high school sports. Sports can strengthen an individual 's physical, emotional and mental state. In addition, students in high school who play sports are oftentimes more likely to focus in class better, and for a longer periods of time. Furthermore, they work better in groups and generally have greater grade point averages than students who do not play sports (Psychological). High school sports should not be forced onto students, but be offered. Sports teach students skills that can be applied in school, and in everyday life.
Basketball a sport that is played throughout the whole world. When playing this sport all you need is a ball and basket. Though the basket does have to be a certain height kids play it in their classroom or outside. What I mean by this is that kids and even adults in the office treat a trash can as a basket and whatever their trash is as a ball. I got interested in this sport when I was in middle school in eighth grade moving on to high school. I was never interested in basketball until I played it with a group of kids who today are still my friends.

Research on what it means for people to be a sports fan; what do sports mean in
Down two with six seconds to go fatigue had taken it tolls on the players. With little energy left; over time was not an option. I knew I had to go for the win. I walk on the floor confident of my ability that was until the whistle blew quickly turning my confident to butterflies. As I fought to get open I quickly saw the ball coming my way. As I rose for a jump shot time itself began to stay still. An in flesh everything became silent. As I watch the ball leave my hand I envisioned greatness; sure the ball was on its way in I started to celebrate that was until I hear the announcer say my teammate tip in miss shot to win us the game. Mix with emotion I celebrate with my teammate. “Ok guys, we have 24 hours until tip off. Get some rest because this is going to be the biggest game of your life. Let’s bring this championship back to Barton College. Go Bulldogs and Goodnight!” Why few players stay in the lobby to hang out I took it talk upon to work on my game and reflect on the semifinal game that just took place. At basketball games you will notice how there are all sorts of fans attending the game.

Students who play sports experience many more benefits that make them a more well rounded person than students who do not. It not only provides many physical benefits, but also tons of mental benefits as well. I have been involved in baseball since the age of three and can definitely visualize these benefits compared to non-student athletes. The benefits of playing sports include valuable life lessons, social skills, and future employment.
