Banning Anonymous Persuasive Speech

It’s 3 am and you are sitting in your bedroom. You pull up tumblr to check on the likes you received on your latest post. You notice that you have received a comment from “Anonymous.” It reads, “kill yourself.” Your heart races then shatters. You feel yourself slipping and your grasp on reality dissipates. You think, “Maybe I should do it- am I even worth living?” But you snap yourself out of it and tell yourself over and over again that it’s one persons comment. When you don’t have a face to put with a negative comment you read it in your own voice. Which is even scarier. We allow these anonymous comments on many different websites. This scenario is happening to people every day. We should ban anonymous comments because it can lead to cyberbullying, sexual harassment, and use of the “deep web.” Our first point is that allowing anonymous comments can cause bullying because the person knows they are not known and are relentless. And around 20% say they witness someone being sexually harassed. The study also shows that young people are more likely to witness and experience this type of harassment. The study does not focus much on anonymous users, but doesn't comment that because of the ability to be anonymous on the internet there is more bullies, and predators. If their wasn't any more anonymous comments, would the amount of harassment decrease? If anonymity encourages sexual harassment, it shouldn't be allowed.
