The Time I got Stuck in a Baby swing….
A sixteen-year-old getting stuck in a baby swing! What kind of naïve teenager does that? Me, that’s who. That incident happened in the summer of 2016, July 28 to be exact, the last week of camp. I had worked for camp Assurance as a kitchen staffer that summer, along with Logan Perritt, Phoebe Alger, Ethan Alger, and Angie Bradley, doing dishes, cooking food, cleaning up messes, and serving children.
However, that year camp had decided that every Thursday morning we would take all the children out to Forest Glenn to eat breakfast. After every child finished going through the line, receiving food, then they went and sat down, quickly eating their food. After they finished eating, all the children made a beeline for the playground,

It is starting to hurt my legs.” So, I started to get out of the swing, but then realized that I couldn’t. “Uh oh, hey Phoebs, I am kind of stuck in here,” I exclaimed, laughing, trying to not show the dread panic that started to set in. My heart started to beat very fast, as the thought of me possibly not being able to get out of that swing started to race through my mind. What would happen if I would have to stay in here all night, what if it rains, what if a raccoon thinks I’m a tiny snack? Man, this is going to be a fun one to explain at the E.R. I AM GOING TO DIE! Luckily, Logan and Ethan helped me by pulling me out, but man, did my legs ever hurt. They were instantly bruised from the pain. After that, we ended up going back to camp and enjoyed the rest of the week.
On Friday, we had the staff party and we all had the chance to share funny events that happened from the summer. I, of course, had shared about my embarrassing incident with the baby swing, but then how I couldn’t get out. This made everyone laugh, making me feel better about the incident. I will never forget the summer as the time I had gotten stuck in a baby
In the movie Swing Kids, there are many persuasive statements that the characters say. A particularly memorable one was said by Arvid, who refuses to play a song that is requested of him and his band because it is a Nazi song. He went on to tell anyone who would listen that sitting idly by while the Nazis killed thousands was contributing to their cause and that he was done being included in that. This statement is a full argument.
Ron and his co-counselor, Dominic was responsible for 5 boys in their cabin, day and night. Benny b was a small child living with polio who loved to move fast in his wheel chair. Another young boy, Spider, was without arms or legs. There was Thomas Steward who was living with Multiple Sclerosis as well as Aaron who everyone called “Arid.” T he most mobile of the 5 was Martin, who was also the oldest at 14 years old. At the beginning of camp everyone was reserved, guarded and quiet. The camp’s schedule was meant for boy scouts, those living without a disability, so the allotted time on the schedule made for a hectic day. Once the counselors figured out they needed to be on their own schedules the children began to blossom. After a day of swimming with a group of girl campers, the boys decided they wanted to make acorn necklaces for everyone at camp. They were all bonded and these necklaces were proof of that. They started calling themselves the Acorn people. The necklaces changed everything, they were connected now. Without even knowing Ron Jones was facilitating recreational therapy technique for these
They left by the sunrise and managed to make it far from their houses. All went fine until Jake suddenly screamed… He had fell from a steep and hurt his ankle.
'The film Swing Kids provides many indications as to the reasons that the Youth in Germany both feared and revered the Nazis.'
Each time the ball ricocheted off the bat, I grew to understand more and more: my swing wasn’t the problem. I had gotten lost in the pressure, the expectations bearing down on me with the weight of the world that I had
On the way to camp Kangaroobie we went to Mr Mcguane’s farm. The year 5 bus broke down so we came late. When we got there, we walked around this little river skipping rocks and getting stuck in the mud. When we arrived at camp, went to our cabins, and I was with, Emily, Felicia, Sarah, Grace and Klara, we packed our bag and went for a walk down to the beach! It was really fun because we went across rivers and walked through the sand dunes! When we got there, we jumped off and slid down the sand
On wednesday we left for outdoor ed. We loaded the buses and left. When we arrived we had a hike into skycroft. Once we arrived we had lunch. After lunch we got into our cabins and then meet at the black top. We had our first activity. My group he snakes went on the history hike. Then we came back and had dinner. When it was time to pick throwing partners, Sid and I were like magnets and found each other in less than a second. We started to throw the neon yellow ball to each other for a boring fifteen minutes and began the dreaded small talk. “How has your spring break been treating you?” I asked. “Good,” she answered. I could tell she wasn’t going to ask me, so I screamed “Mine has been amazing,¨ If only I knew that in fifteen minutes my life would take a turn for the worse.
In the years following my work experience at The Warehouse, I recounted the stories of the pranks we played with pride and delight. Relishing the amount of time invested to set the pranks, I loved how dedicated we were in the pursuit of a laugh. Now my perspective on the mischief and antics force me to face a different and darker side of myself that I’d like to forget. I realized that I learned valuable life lessons about people that might have been wasted on me at the time. Fortunately these experiences were there when I needed them later in life.
Music plays a critical part in protesting because of its ability to inspire and reach its powerful message to millions. The movie Swing Kids is the story of a group of young men protesting against the Nazis using swing music and dancing. The Nazis thought of swing music being “Jungle Music,” and it was unsuitable for any Germans to listen to. Dreadfully, some of these young men were forced to join the Nazis. Throughout the movie, the main character, Peter struggled with being both a Nazi and a swing kid. This was the internal struggle of knowing what was ethically right and what was wrong. This is an issue many face when deciding if they are going to protest or sit back. Today’s most recent protest relates with the Swing Kids.
It was the last Saturday in December of 1997. My brother, sister, and I were chasing after each other throughout the house. As we were running, our parents told us to come and sit down in the living room. They had to tell us something. So, we all went down stairs wondering what was going on. Once we all got down stairs, the three of us got onto the couch. Then, my mom said, “ Well…”
On that fateful day in March, I was a couple months shy of my third birthday. My family and I lived in New Mexico at the time and were renting a house with an outdoor in-ground pool. The day was beautiful. I was outside with my oldest sister Rachel and my father. Rachel was diligently reading curled up on a bench that sat against the house, and my father was mowing the backyard. My mother and my other sister were in the house. Off to one side of the house there was a group of large bushes. I was playing over there with one of her large cooking pots, off in my own little world. At one point while amusing and en...
One Saturday night, Kasi, Beth, Beka, Amy, and I had nothing to do. Like always, at times like this, we decided we would ride around town. We let the top down on Kasi’s vehicle. It was a red Jeep Wrangler, with red interior and big mud tires. We climbed in the Jeep one by one until we were all inside. Amy, Beka, and Beth all sat in the back after a fight about who had said “shotgun” first. The back was the most uncomfortable. The Jeep was only built for two backseat passengers, so with three back there, it was a tough ride. Kasi and I slid into the front seats. We strapped on our seatbelts, trying to convince the three of them in the back to do so. Our friends did not want to bother strapping in because they were too crowded, and there were only two seatbelts anyway. I was sixteen at the time, and they were all seventeen. We were the perfect picture of youth, five young girls packed into a Jeep with shorts, sweatshirts, and ball caps on.
...sses and my mom was taking the picture. After the picture was taken, Jami yelled, " Mom! Catch me!" and was going to jump off of the forty-foot haystack into Mom's arms. I quickly grabbed her and kept her from not jumping, because I knew it would mean death; there was no way mom could catch a fifty- pound girl jumping from a haystack as high as a four-story building. Needless to say, we were never allowed on the haystack after that.
OUCH! My leg crippled with pain. I tried to shuffle my way to the window, but it was excruciating. As my senses kicked back in, I felt pains shooting up and down my body. Peering down at my hands I screamed. My hands were covered in cold, congealed blood.
