Babies all grow about the same but babies grow in different environments and live different lives than others. Hattie and Mari both had mommy and me classes plus had playdates with other babies and grew in a safe environment with good living conditions. Ponijao and Bayar both lived in tents and didn’t have much supervision and lived around animals that weren't the cleanest. Mari’s life compared to Ponijao is a polar opposite, Mari rarely had been left alone and all her needs were met and she was playing with other babies and interacting with her parents. Bayar was left alone a lot and had rare interactions with his parents he only got to play with his sibling and the cows and other farm animals. Hattie and Bayar are in different cultures and don’t treated the same. Bayar’s mom leaves him alone while Hattie is never left alone. Each of the cultures in this video are different but some have similarities and others would never do that but to them it’s the way of life and they are doing what they can to make this baby grow big and strong. Each culture has their ups and downs with the babies but all of them are loved by their moms and have a bright future to grow up and learn how to develop all their skills and make who they are. All babies are different and are each special in their own ways they may grow in different environments but are each their own person and no matter if one grows in a better environment or not all 4 of these babies are different clean baby or dirty baby poverty or rich they all grow the same and each develop valuable skills that will last them for ever. Throughout child developmental psychology, many different theorist’s views on how environment effects a child development differently, or if it plays any role at all in a child developing with a healthy psyche. In the film Babies (2010), we are introduced to two human babies living in distinctively different parts of the world and we are given a glimpse of their lives as they grow and develop. In the film, we are introduced to Ponijao from the rural area of Opuwo, Namibia, who lives with his mother and his siblings. In another area of the world, the urban city of San Francisco, U.S., we are introduced to Hattie, who lives with her mother and father.
Babies is a 2010 French film, by Thomas Balmes, that follows four babies from birth to their first steps around the world. Two of the babies are from rural areas: Panijao from Opuwo, Namibia, and Bayarjargal from Bayanchandmani, Mongolia. The other two babies are from urban areas: Mari from Tokyo, Japan, and Hattie from San Francisco, United States. This documentary is different because the whole film is from the babies perceptive. Everything that is shot is at the babies level. There is very little dialogue throughout this film. The focus is not on the parents at all. You will see the parent’s faces through out the film. Kids are raised differently depending on the resources available and the economic situation of the country and that is clearly seen in this film. The methods of childrearing are completely different in each of the countries covered in the film, but that is because in each country the kids are being raised for different types of futures. I moved from New York to an impoverished village in India during my pre-adolescent age. There, my life saw juxtaposition like no other. From air-conditioned, colorful children wards where the nurse gave you “I was brave!” stickers (despite you throwing a fit) and lollipops, I saw children screaming in agony as crude and outdated procedures such as lobotomies were used to treat relatively simple issues. Regardless of how clichéd the American-born-Asian-country-returned reaction has become, such visuals do impact a child’s life like no other and have made me who I am today.
“Babies”. Is a documentary made by the Thomas Balmés. It offers a window on the lives of four infants in four completely different cultures. This is not a usual kind of documentary; there are no narration, no subtitles and actual dialogue was very minimal. The film explores childhood rituals, enculturation, socialization and parenthood. I will try to explore each of these themes and try to make the case that behaviors, values and fears are learned not something congenital. It has, in my opinion, comparative perspectives and different methods in rearing children in different societies. It achieves this by cutting the scenes in certain ways to show the differences between these different children. For example, in one part of the film, both Bayarjargal (the Mongolian child) and Mari (the Japanese child) were playing with their pet cats and then the two scenes were edited to a shot of Ponijo (the Namibian child) looking interested in flies. The four children developed in somewhat similar ways. However, there are differences in their behaviors due to the enculturation by seeing their parents or siblings who were doing what they thought to be the norms and the obvious landscape in which they are brought up. Two of the kids were born in rural areas (Namibia and Mongolia) and two were born in urban areas (the United States and Japan). Babies from different cultures, and locations have very different ways of being taken care of. They 're parents have different ways of making sure that the basic needs of a child are met. All of the children had different ways of getting familiar with their surroundings. Each child has also developed reflexes around the same time. Some parents used the proximal parenting technique, others used distal parenting technique. Although these baby stories are different and similar in many ways, all of the parents had one particular goal; to make sure the baby grows functional and healthy.

Even though the babies live in very dissimilar parts of the world, their physical, cognitive, and social development seem to all follow a set pattern. On the other hand, the babies learn to do some activities distinctive to their environment by watching their parents and siblings. Therefore, Babies provides evidence to support both the nature and nurture sides of the debate.

Kelley and Hui-Mei Tseng takes thirty-eight Caucasian American mothers and thirty-eight Chinese mothers and compares the parenting skills of their 3 to 8 year old children using a Parenting Dimensions Inventory (PDI) and a Parenting Goals Questionnaire (PGQ). Results found on the PDI that Caucasian mothers scored better on sensitivity, nurturance, rule setting and consistency. Whereas, Chinese mothers score higher on physical punishment and yelling at their child.
