One major way I am involved in the community is through religion. I follow a branch of Hinduism that is known as the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha which is a spiritual, volunteered organization dedicated to improving society through individual growth by fostering the Hindu ideals of faith, unity, and selfless service. Every Sunday, My family and I spend the whole day at a temple located in Brunswick, Ohio where we attain information about god, morals, values and even religious topics through "sabha" which is like a Sunday school. Also throughout the day we spend time doing "seva" or volunteering by cleaning, organizing sabhas for younger kids, and doing any other opportunity that has been given to me from others. Even Though this happens every …show more content…
Not only do i do voluntary work on Sundays at temple but I take on the role of being a Regional Administrator for my religion known as the BAPS or Bochasanwasi Akshar-Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha. Being a Regional Administrator has many responsibilities to come with it. One of the aspects is to oversee all the temples that are located in the Midwest. Another aspect is that I have to make reports based on the numbers collected by the individual temples. Due to this role, there are always conference calls that I have to attend late at night. These calls consist of people that have the role of helping the BAPS regionally. Usually during the summer season, a camp is held for kids and teenagers so that they can further their knowledge of our religion, and for these camps I would have to create a registration site, method of payment, on-site check in, and eventually a report that would be a summary of the camp. One of the biggest projects for the BAPS is happening in July 2018. The BAPS is holding National Convention for all of the kids and teenagers that go to the temples in the USA. And for that, I have been handling the registration process and method of payment, and all together about 10,000 kids and teenagers combined have registered. Due to this role, I have gained many soft skills that will help me out in the …show more content…
The conference had about 300 people consisting of males and females that had the same goal in common and that was to learn how they can become better in there local volunteering. My Regional Administrator Lead had told me about this speaking opportunity a month before the conference but it wasn't confirmed that I would be speaking. Since there was no confirmation, I never really prepared at all. When the time came to go to the conference in December, my friends and I traveled down to Cincinnati hoping for a time that would be filled with unmeasurable memories and insight that would help us out in our volunteering. On the morning of the second day there, my lead told me that I was going to be able to speak in front of the people there. After he told me this, I was very confused and nervous as to what I was going to talk about but he reassured me by helping me in any way possible and told me that God was always going to be there for me. I managed to overcome my nervousness and presented. Everyone told me that I did an amazing job and nailed the message to
I help out my family and community in several ways. I have volunteered to help coach cheerleading at Jefferson Elementary School everyday after school. I work at Mattoon Academy of Gymnastics and coach several classes and their gymnastics team. I also work in my church's nursery on Sundays. Being a role model for all of the kids I coach and take care of means a lot to me because they look up to me and want to follow in my footsteps. Despite my busy schedule, I try to help out in the community and with my family as much as
It was just us: thirty young men, and our two city counselors. I vividly remember the theme of the discussion: "What is your biggest goal and biggest fear in life?" What I heard that night from people I still barely knew astonished me. The hopes and fears that I heard from my fellow city members truly inspired me to work hard in life and do whatever I can to face my fears. When it was finally my turn to share with the group, I told everyone that my biggest goal was to do well in high school and college, find my dream job, have a family, and be happy. That goal may sound very ordinary, but that is truly my dream for the future. Next, I told everyone that my biggest fear was to lose motivation in life. I explained how I work so hard in high school because I have the motivation of my goal that I mentioned previously. If I lost this motivation, I do not know where I would
I am dedicated to helping out our community and school, because it warms my heart and soul. Seneca said in about 40 to 60 A.D. that you should “be silent as to services you have rendered, but speak of favors you have received.” In other words you should not boast about the numerous projects you have accomplished and how much physical work you executed, but rather pride yourself on how you helped people in community and school, and how you have affected their lives with positive means. I feel life is joyous and it should be the feeling everyone illustrates, and this is exactly what keeps me functioning in the stressful world today. I find comfort in helping others to make their lives a little more like heaven and this comfort motivates me to perform copious service projects to the best of my capability whenever I find the time. Time is fair to the rich, the poor, and to every race, because time is equal and gives everyone 24 hours daily to accomplish their required tasks. Because time is so valuable and I am occupied by difficult advanced placement and honor classes and juggle school, clubs, sports, and friends, I joined Key Club, a high school division of the adult service club, Kiwanis. Key Club opened new doors to make every extra minute count towards helping others.
My first experience that involved contribution to a community was in an organization known as girls as pearls. In this organization we participated in many volunteer activities, both domestic and global such as making dresses for girls in africa or volunteering at the samaritan ministry. Consequently, this early volunteerism experience influenced my involvement in the community as a high school student. I became involved in organizations such as key club, an organization focused in volunteerism. Additionally, I began to tutor middle school students and volunteering at the local church. Many of the volunteer activities that I have participate in involved children and this due to the reason that I want to be able to become a positive guide and role model for children. I want to contribute to their motivation of continuing their education and to reach for goals that they believe they can achieve. As a hispanic american I have been provided the opportunity of experiencing life from two different viewpoints which has provided me with various life lessons that aided in my development in becoming a successful and well- rounded
An organization known as Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) was helping our church with the event. CEF hosts five-day camps during the summer to share the gospel message with children. They had been to our house several times so I knew all of the leaders pretty well. One of the leaders invited me to go to the training camp in the summer and I readily accepted the invitation. After the training camp I was able to share the gospel message in front of groups of children, further helping me to go out of my comfort zone and pave the road to
"Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does." is a quote that comes from William James, a great philosopher. This quote is saying that your actions do make a difference, no matter how small, and no matter if you think they make a difference or not. Every little thing you do has an impact somewhere, on someone, and on something. Actions do speak louder than words, and you never know how far down the line those actions will be felt. Community service is a great thing to put time and energy into. There are a lot of positive impacts that are made by individuals who contribute to community service projects. There are many different associations and activities that one can volunteer for to help out the community. I have done many different
Community is not something that you can fully understand just by seeing. Community is something you feel deep inside of you and fills your heart with a desire to have relationships with others. Being apart of a group and knowing others is not enough either. You actually have to go out and spread God’s word. It says in Deuteronomy 15:11, “You shall surely open your hand for a brother, to your needy, and to the poor, in your land.” As Father McGivney Catholic High school, we “open our hands,” meaning to guide and help others together as one and lead them to the path of salvation. We help the people who really need it. For example, providing joy to people in nursing homes or providing food for the hungry. I am a very cheerful person and
A wise woman once told me that actions speak louder than words. Despite Mr. Twain being the actual author of these words, my mom said this phrase to me when I was a little girl. I have tried to live by these words every day of my life since then. Whether it be with my family, friends, school or greater community I try to remember that a simple action can have a much bigger impact than words. I enjoy being actively involved in every aspect of my life. With my family, I make an effort to check in with my grandparents and aunts and uncles to make sure that everyone is doing okay. Rather than simply telling them that I love them, I would rather show them that I love them by giving them flowers or helping them with something that might need to be done. On a larger scale, I am also very involved and active within my school community. You can find me all over the school participating in different sports and clubs including basketball, lacrosse, service club, and photography club. I have taken on leadership roles within my school community such as being president of the photography club and leading a senior Kairos retreat.
On stage, I anticipated third place, but was once again stunned when I placed second. This whole experience was life changing. Working for the National FFA Convention, I developed a work ethic to stick to something, and to do my best, even if it seems impossible. I also gained communication skills, and the ability to work outside my comfort zone. Even now it is hard for me to interact with others, but this accomplishment taught me that I can do hard things and I can communicate effectively. I learned how to perform research and express my findings. This experience was also very valuable for it directed me to my career path. It opened up doors as to my abilities, and gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams without fear. It taught me that failures happen, but enduring effort will turn failure into success. In my interviews, I learned that complete honesty is far better than false cover-ups. I became the person I am now because I was blessed with the experience. This project for some may be seen as a great award, but for me it's an invaluable occurrence which had more life skills and experience than a piece of paper can ever
I volunteered on November 8, 2015 from 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. It felt comfortable to volunteer somewhere I'm familiar with. I go to this temple every Sunday and attend religion classes that helped me during my volunteering. I am also familiar with all the people that I worked with, but this activity helped me connect with them and we got to work together for a common goal. Some of the jobs I was in charge of doing were standing at a game booth for the girls where I would teach them a little about hinduism and then let them play a game.
He simply looked at me and said that he loved serving the kids because they are the unfortunate ones. I have learned what it means to serve and what it means to be content and trust God. I have learned what it means to be grateful, even through the hard times. My relationship with God has really improved since my experience in Tecate, and I will be forever grateful for that door that God opened in my life. Over the trip, I had the pleasure of living among and working with the men and women of the orphanage.
I have always been interested in knowing more about various religions that exist around the world and The Survey of World Religions class has provided great opportunities to observe and experience many different religions at its source. On March 3rd 2016, I have visited Provo City Center Temple. Before the field trip, I was very hesitant to go, because it was scheduled awfully early in the morning. In addition, I was assuming the Temple would not be very interesting, since, it was just an open house for visitors and there would not be and religious ceremony. However, my classmates, Rio and Jennica encouraged me to visit the temple and gladly, I have made the right decision. My visit to the Provo City Center Temple
I was afraid, but I continued to pray and asked God for directions. Fay states, “God has called each of us to share our faith, in obedience. He has called each of us to evangelize. If one of your excuses for not sharing your faith is, “I don’t have the gift of evangelism,” then you need to examine Scripture. You find the command of the Great Commission to evangelize, to encourage evangelism, and to urge evangelism.” I really enjoyed spreading the gospel because it gives me joy. I am willing to meet the needs of people when given the opportunity. I love God and I love people. I am willing to go where God wants me to
As the day approached, I knew that I had just about finished what I wanted to teach. It was going to be a busy day, I had my agenda planned and was almost set. I called the church to find out how many were actually going to attend so that I would have enough materials on hand to give to everyone. I was now in for a big shock. As I was telling the owner of the training agency I work for about the outline, she was calling and letting the daycare know.
I love helping my community, I love giving back to people in any way possible. Being from a small town where everyone knows everyone. We come together a lot to give back and t...
