Averting Problems in the New Millennium
As we approach the end of this century, many people have raised concerns regarding the serious issues surrounding the Y2K problems. Although no one knows precisely what will happen on January 1, 2000, the general opinion is that Y2K related problems will cause failures of basic services including utilities, water and phone service. Contrary to popular opinion, I believe that the Y2K problems will have more of a positive effect on our society because it has caused us to analyze more carefully, the data and the technology we rely on in everyday situations. In addition, the new millennium will usher an era of tremendous opportunities for technological advancements in our society. In other words, the current preparations to avert a Y2K crisis, has given us an advantage which will minimize technological breakdowns in the future and create new technology which will ensure a relatively smooth transition into the new millennium.
The main focus of our concerns regarding the Y2K crisis is the fact that we know precisely when it is scheduled to begin and "this appointment with destiny cannot be postponed or avoided" (Jeffrey 10). During the past eighteen months, we have been bombarded with extensive information in the media regarding the Y2K problem including predictions on how it will impact our society. This problem can be traced back to approximately forty years ago, when programmers in the fledging computer industry made a fateful decision to save memory and space by recording year dates with only two digits. Unfortunately, no one anticipated that these early computer programs and mainframes would still be using these systems in 1999. As a result, this technological glitch may cause compute...

...other utilities, hopefully for short periods and the worst case scenario, could be a few weeks. However, these incidents will not translate into doomsday proportions and will not mean the "end of the world" as we know it. There is less reason to panic over Y2K because unlike the many natural disasters that we experienced in the United States we were able to proactively address this crisis. I am certain that we will witness one of the best New Year's Eve celebration in this century as the Waterford crystal ball is expected to drop and glow " 2000" in brilliant lights and the city lights will stay on.

Many will attest to the grandeur of the natural feature that exists in northern Arizona, but the formation of the Grand Canyon has befuddled geomorphologists to this day. This confusion can be attributed to the Kaibab Plateau, an anomaly considering the Colorado River traverses it seamlessly. Four prevalent hypotheses have been proposed since the 19th century, starting with the lake overflow proposition first brought up by John Newbury and then reinforced by Eliot Blackwelder. Newbury argued that a structure must have ponded an ancient lake causing an overspill to cut into the Grand Canyon. This argument holds that the river must have come after the plateau’s existence. Unbeknownst to Newbury, the structure would be the Kaibab Plateau.
This seemingly boring process came to fruition in one of the most beloved National Parks in the United States of America. The Grand Canyon National Park is located in the state of Arizona. It is over 270 miles long and, at some points, is up to 18 miles wide and deep (History.com Staff). Its deep walls help provide a geologic history of the earth, because the many layers contain artifacts and information about the climate at the time (History.com Staff).
Have you ever had the thought that technology is becoming so advanced that someday we might not be able to think for ourselves? There is no questioning the fact that we live in a society that is raging for the newest technology trends. We live in a society that craves technology so much that whenever a new piece of technology comes out, people go crazy to get their hands on it. The stories that will be analyzed are The Time Machine by H.G Wells and The Veldt by Ray Bradbury. These stories offer great insight into technologies’ advancements over time that will ultimately lead to the downfall of human beings. These two stories use a different interpretation of what will happen when technology advances, but when summed up a common theme appears. In the story, The Time
The Grand Canyon has a lot of different features and is an exciting place that holds a lot of secretes and mysteries that scientists have been trying to figure out since the Grand Canyon was formed. It is millions of years old, over 277 miles wide, 18 miles wide, and defies many normal Geography features that are true in every other situation. Many theories have been presented that seek to explain the formation of the Grand Canyon. The first theory is that the Grand Canyon has a lot of Erosional Scarp Face’s, that have come together over the years, which is one theory that has been presented. Scientists have also tried to see if the Colorado River cutting into the canyon caused the Grand Canyon.
There are many points presented by Hendricks to shed a negative light on the explosion of gospel music. His analysis of gospel music is not truly a fair depiction. He mentions the reason behind his essay was the article written about Kirk Franklin and stating t...

Arizona is composed of 1 billion tons of rock. The Grand Canyon stretches 18 miles across and 277 miles long and more then a mile deep. It is so vast that is even seen from space. The river is 1450 miles long and 800 million gallons of water for every hour.
The Grand Canyon holds many interesting secrets from the past people who have made the canyon their home. The Grand Canyon has kept these secrets for many years through the generations of people who have lived in those areas and the stories that these generations have told younger generations. I find it interesting how people have lived in those areas for so long, they have dealt with the changes of their home. I also find it interesting how the people who lived in these conditions and the items they used to cook and storage items are items that we are finding today. Their items have survived through years of season changes, they may be broken or scattered within an area but they have for the most part stayed intact. The Grand Canyon holds history and stories of the people who lived their lives there, to think that under the sand that has blown and covered these areas was a town or homes to people. The people who lived there had an understanding of the plants and animals of the area they lived; they learned by trial and error that in itself is interesting. They were not afraid of being wrong, they learned from their mistakes. They lived by hunting and living outdoors, as people in our society it seems weird to think of living the way the natives have lived their lives. As stated in the article the natives possessed an understanding of the seasons and the area that they lived in that is beyond our grasp (Coder 2000:6-7). They were interesting people from what they knew to how they lived. I find it interesting how times have dramatically changed, the natives that lived in the Grand Canyon lived with what they could make with their hands, and eat what they could hunt, and they had the necessities whereas we today go to a s...

...f. It is of most importance we practice all four of these paradigms to succeed in all of the habits discussed. Covey explains, “Each dimension is important, it only becomes optimally effective as we deal with all four dimensions”. Each and every one of these will have a positive impact on your life as long as you practice in an effective way.
... of evolution in the 8th habit by encouraging us to live life with an open-mind and heart. Challenging us, the readers, to look beyond what is in front of our faces. Showing and explaining the readers that it is possible to succeed in both, personal and professional lives. Dr. Covey teaches people what it takes to be a leader and the roles that an effective leader will display and encourage from their daily interactions. An effective leader will understand the need to establish a common purpose, giving the sense of direction for other to build upon in their way. Dr. Covey also illustrates how the basics are an essential to continual growth. Reiterating how the 7 habits helps build upon the 8th habit. Stephen Covey believes that, we as a human race are capable of so much more than we ever anticipated if we just open up our minds and hearts to one another.

Today, Americans are faced with the increasing change of technology in our everyday life. Sometimes the change happens and we do not realize how it affects our lives. I think it is always a good idea to talk to someone that is older than yourself, like your grandparents to remind you of the times in their younger years. Hopefully, that will open your eyes to the changes we face in this generation and the generation to come. In this chapter, the author explores the relationship of changing technology to changes in both the environment and social institutions.
The “Earth Song” by Michael Jackson, written in the mid 1990’s, is a protest song in which relates to key issues that were occurring during this time period. Michael Jackson was very passionate about these problems and felt it was time to take a stand. Jackson’s goal was to clue humans in on the destruction that was being done by them on a daily basis. The protest song “Earth Song” by Michael Jackson discusses the deterioration of Earth from violence and demonstrates Jackson’s unique perspective on the severe environmental crisis that was arising. Environmental issues global warming and greenhouse gases were huge during the 1990’s. The gases going into the air on a day to day basis from factories, automobiles etc. then began to deteriorate the earth’s ozone dramatically, increasing the amount of damage done to the earth. “Global temperatures are rising, and this has begun to affect the natural world” (Rooney, 34). The main responsibly of the ozone is to keep the Earth at a steady temperature. When the temperature becomes too high, the abundant amount of ultraviolet rays that are released into the environment would then be too much. Regular means of reproduction is then destroyed ranging from plants to even animals. “Most scientists agree that the rise in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is causing the temperature to rise, with potentially disastrous consequences for the world’s population” (Rooney, 34). The amount of the greenhouse gases emitted into the air in the 1990’s was mainly fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas. Because of these fossil fuels and careless acts of businesses and people in general, the Earth was being damaged more each and every day.
Since the beginning of time, humans have thought and made many inventions. Repeatedly the newer one is better than the older. Our minds have created many remarkable things, however the best invention we ever created is the computer. computers are constantly growing and becoming better every day. Every day computers are capable of doing new things. Even though computers have helped us a lot in our daily lives, many jobs have been lost because of it, now the computer can do all of the things a man can do in seconds! Everything in the world relies on computers and if a universal threat happens in which all computers just malfunction then we are doomed. Computers need to be programmed to be able to work or else it would just be a useless chunk of metal. And we humans need tools to be able to live; we program the computer and it could do a lot of necessary functions that have to be done. It is like a mutual effect between us and he computer (s01821169 1).
