There are different elements to consider when listening to or observing instrumental music only. I believe instrumental music can be just as powerful as music with lyrics put to it.
When referring to worship music specifically there are similarities between most worship music arrangements. I tend to mainly listen for dynamics more than anything else of a song. Another obvious important element of instrumental music is determining what instruments are actually being played. The story that the music is trying to tell really depends on the instruments being used and the orchestration.
I have noticed over the years and as I grow in my knowledge of music that there is definitely a very common “road map” for songs. You typically have your intro,

I love how impactful instrumental music can be just by how the dynamics are carefully planned out. In my opinion, worship music is not just a tool we can use to sing praises to God the music really takes you on a journey. And that story can be told through strong dynamics.
Although there are different styles of worship music it is amazing to me to think about how the purpose of it all is the same and that it centers around one God and His love for us.
Instrumental music in worship can be used to tell the story of God’s love. Typically worship songs that are softer to begin with gradually build dynamically and either finish big or come back down to that softer level in the beginning. Worship songs that are more energized and fast paced at the beginning either stay that way throughout or they decrescendo dynamically to like a bridge part and build back up. I have noticed that to be a common “dynamic roadmap” for songs.
What I have discovered through music, especially worship music, is that there is always that time in the music where emotionally and spiritually you are brought into the presence of
God. It is like an “aha!” moment when you reach that point because depending on the style

Certain musical notes and chords have the power to make us react certain ways emotionally. Somber chords or minor chords especially played at a slower tempo could have the ability to make us feel sad or down on an intimate level. Other major chords and higher range notes have the ability to make people feel upbeat or happy.
In worship music to me it seems that everything that is played has a positive outcome. I personally feel that a lot of that comes from the Holy Spirit but a lot also has to do with the musicality of a song. Chords that are played in a higher range or that have a brighter timbre could automatically feel more positive than chords with a darker or boomy sound to them. When it comes to the melody of a song, melodies of a worship song are catchy and have a memorable rhythm. Orchestration of worship music can make or break the song as being an impactful piece or not. I previously talked about the different dynamic road maps of slower songs and faster more upbeat songs. Instrumentation is key to how the overall feel of the song should be. But ultimately my personal opinion all goes back to the spiritual side of composing. Worship
Growing up in Jamaica, I enjoyed worship. I remembered looking forward to church. We clapped our hands and stomped our feet and made a joyful noise unto the Lord. We didn't have keyboards and drums. We clapped and sounded like timbrels. I remembered when I learned to testify and it helped me and several others to build our confidence. I would sing in the local churches when they have special events. I watched young people being filled with the Holy Ghost and I wanted it so badly that I would pray and ask God to give it to me. I remembered watching my mother and my sister speak in tongues and I so wanted to do it.
“For over one thousand years the official music of the Roman Catholic church had been Gregorian Chant, which consists of melody set to sacred Latin texts and sung without accompaniment” (Kamien 67). The credit for developing Gregorian chant music, also known as plain...

In an age when culture continues to lower standards of intellect, Marva Dawn makes compelling observations and suggestions for the Church to rethink its’ strategy on impacting society. How do we evangelize without weakening the message of what we are communicating? The majority of her text focuses on the worship environment generally, but later she focuses on music, preaching, and liturgy specifically. According to Dawn, a gathering of believers should emphasize God as the subject and object of worship, challenge each individual to grow in godly character, and accentuate the community of believers (not only in the room, but throughout history as well). Through this grid, she encourages leaders and participants to evaluate each worship element. If these primary goals are accomplished, then worship will not be empty and simpleminded. Instead the worship atmosphere would be held to a higher standard and, she believes, both pleasing to God and attractive to those who do not know God.

The understanding of music in the church is important to any believer. For worship, through music, to be what God intended it to be, one must understand the important role of music and how to biblically apply it to a service. The Bible, however, does not give strict guidelines on this matter. Therefore, the church must interrupt what the Bible does say about worship into their routine. The issues discussed in the chapters to follow are the author’s position of issues within the church. This conviction will then be examined by the Bible and discussed.
3) Sacred songs - Hungarian sacred folk hymns of a variety of origins also make up a wide repertoire of songs present in live folk tradition. The valuable and most significant part of church songs in folk tradition is ecumenical - ignoring the different type of denominations (that is Evangelic, Catholic, Reformational). We find songs with a) Gregorian origin (Psalmtones, Te Deum, Hymns - sometimes sung in Latin, even funeral parodies); b) songs evolved from medieval canticles; c) songs of the Reformation era; d) the psalms of Genf and other metric songs; d) 16th, 17th century Hungarian Chorals) songs of Counter-reformation f) sacred gongs set on peasant tunes.
In ancient times, music was more commonly used for ceremonial and religious practices. While I have no religious affiliation for myself, my friend, families, and others do. For example my sister, who not too long ago was graced and graced another with a golden ring, linking herself for the rest of her life with the man she loves. This time in her life was a joyous, memorable experience filled with love and passion. Bathed in sweet tender songs of my sister and new brother-in-law's faith in loving country songs. Songs that had...
To fully understand any musical style, one must be able to analyze the various elements of music as they exist in that particular style. In this first musical close-up, we shall briefly describe these elements of music. In subsequent musical close-ups, we shall examine one or another of these elements in greater detail as it pertains to a given style or topic.
Not every person is going to have the same taste in music, but why is it that people find a certain genre more appealing than others? A person’s personality and individuality clearly has a large role Research indicates that there is a definite correlation between personality and music preferences (Rentfrow & Gosling p. 1236-1237, Chamorro-Premuzic & Furnham p. 180-183). Those that enthusiastically chose to involve music in their lives will be more open to whatever music findings they come across in their everyday lives. There are also individuals who can play one or more musical instrument(s) and would be considered music lovers. Most of them have started from a young age and as they grew older would spend huge amounts of...
taste of music, people still like to listen to it and enjoy it. My own personal experiences and attitudes to music have stemmed from my own life and relationships.
Music: the art of organized noise. The blend of pitch and rhythm combined in different mediums and enjoyed by our ears. A very interpretive art, music isn’t very clearly constricted or defined by one definition. With so many varieties of music, it’s difficult to say what aspect is really the most important. Some people think music’s history and the appreciation of music are the most important aspects to take into consideration. Some think complex in rhythms and melodies make the best music. Some people devote their whole lives to studying one genre of music in order to fully understand how that genre works. While all of these aspects of music are important, none of them can truly be compared with each other on a fair playing field. Music of different genres, eras, and geographic backgrounds were written for different purposes, different people, and different settings. Still, there is still one overarching theme that applies to all forms of music new or old: the way the composer presents his or her creation. The performance and presentation of a work of music is like the icing on the top of a cake. The cake may be the best you’ve ever tasted, but if the icing on the outside doesn’t look appealing or doesn’t taste good, chances are you’ll take a different piece of cake with better looking frosting next time. The performance of music is what appeals most to people. With live performance, an artist must “sell” his or her creation. They must put smile on their face and convey to the audience that this is their music and through the music explain why it’s awesome. They must persevere through whatever the stage, the audience, and their surroundings give them and put on a good show. In today’s popular music though, this aspect of showma...
A dynamic part of our lives has been around for all of time. All over the world, at any time period, music has been there. It has helped people through many experiences. During years of slavery, slaves sang and played instruments to pass the time and to enjoy themselves. They would also sing religious tunes to connect on a spiritual level (Sambol-Tosco). Music can be used on different levels. Most commonly known use is entertainment. But it expands past entertainment to healing and positive medical effects.
How is the Levitical order of music, praise and worship linked and relevant for today?
In conclusion towards the arguments and observations, musical expression consists in presenting emotion characteristics in appearance. It turns out people listen to music as having a purposeful nature and that it has an effect on psychological emotions. If there is a case in which music showing emotional qualities with no reference to feelings, there is a case of happy music that is not powerful of happiness.
