The “Earth Song” by Michael Jackson, written in the mid 1990’s, is a protest song in which relates to key issues that were occurring during this time period. Michael Jackson was very passionate about these problems and felt it was time to take a stand. Jackson’s goal was to clue humans in on the destruction that was being done by them on a daily basis. The protest song “Earth Song” by Michael Jackson discusses the deterioration of Earth from violence and demonstrates Jackson’s unique perspective on the severe environmental crisis that was arising. Environmental issues global warming and greenhouse gases were huge during the 1990’s. The gases going into the air on a day to day basis from factories, automobiles etc. then began to deteriorate the earth’s ozone dramatically, increasing the amount of damage done to the earth. “Global temperatures are rising, and this has begun to affect the natural world” (Rooney, 34). The main responsibly of the ozone is to keep the Earth at a steady temperature. When the temperature becomes too high, the abundant amount of ultraviolet rays that are released into the environment would then be too much. Regular means of reproduction is then destroyed ranging from plants to even animals. “Most scientists agree that the rise in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is causing the temperature to rise, with potentially disastrous consequences for the world’s population” (Rooney, 34). The amount of the greenhouse gases emitted into the air in the 1990’s was mainly fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas. Because of these fossil fuels and careless acts of businesses and people in general, the Earth was being damaged more each and every day.

...ted. This amendment allowed him to speak of religion and voice his opinion. Also, stated in the Declaration of Independence, people of the nation are able to have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of “happiness”. People were and still are infringing on the Earth, which may make others very unhappy. Some in the world are very eco-friendly and earth based. Many love the trees, trails, mountains, lakes, rivers, etc. When they are being damaged by others, there is not much left to enjoy. We as a nation, have the right to have a fulfilling life and happiness. If happiness is being taken away from people, it is taking away our rights.
Michael Jackson was hoping to make a change and felt it was his place to take a stand. He spoke of real problems during this time period and made it evident that the problems can be solved if people take the step towards resolution.
That global warming is one of the concerns expressed in this song is evident in the
Jackson gained many accomplishments during his years as an important political leader but all those gains ended when groups like the Ku Klux Klan decided that there were no way negroes were going to obtain the same rights as they were. It was unacceptable not just for them but for the white community to be on the same level. When they decided to kill Jackson, they killed him and members of his community. King also accomplished many gains that until now we have been practicing, for example the right for African Americans to be seated anywhere on a bus, and ending segregation. King was always known for his peaceful protest and for promoting civil disobedience as one of the best methods to fight for civil rights. However, many things have changed since then, as of right now in this current year there have been many protest around the country for law enforcement brutality against the African American Community bringing an uprising of many violent protests in the country. This has brought a new movement called Black Lives Matter which seeks dignity, justice, and respect for all the African Americans in this country. Now more than ever the rising of this movement has increased due to the mass of social media involvement. Media has changed the way people think about this current situation by turning the people against cops and other law enforcement
...be added. They felt that if the rights of the people were not listed they would be infringed.Page 66R An example of a right they thought would be infringed upon was stated in Document 5 by Mercy Otis Warren, “There is no security in the system [under the proposed new U.S Constitution] either for the rights of [people with different ideas] or the liberty of the press”. This fear was directly addressed in the first amendment in which the freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition are protected.Page 46R All these freedoms are used to express one’s self and express different ideas which means the first amendment prevents the government from suppressing ideas they do not agree with. The bill of right protects many basic rights and includes the 9th amendment in which it is stated that rights not listed in the Constitution are still retained by the people.
middle of paper ... ... If Jackson did not change his view of life, work hard at everything he did, and excel at sports, who knows where he would be today? He could be sitting in a jail cell because he never changed his ways and lost his temper, or he could still be living in a small house in a small town.
Jackson was a self-centered, violent, and ruthless man who paid no attention to what was morally correct, only what he believed in. This man was a notorious gambler who was known to fight at the drop of a hat, and then drop the hat himself! And because he shut down the Central Bank, we entered into the Panic of 1837. Ironically, the same man who opposed paper money ended up on the 20-dollar bill! He completely ignored the Constitution, and the Supreme court on many occasions. And when he was elected into office, he replaced many smart able-bodied officials for unintelligent Jacksonian supporters. This was the kind of man that Jackson was. A man who made more than 4,000 Native Americans die on the Trail of Tears. Jackson was just an unintelligent common-man who managed to win the Presidency. And with it, he brought damage and death to many other people through his
One key to the first amendment of the United states constitution is the right to free speech. Freedom of speech is what separates America than other countries around the world that forbid freedom of speech rights. Freedom of speech has been in our constitution since the year 1791. When James Madison “the father of the constitution” wrote the bill of rights he saw potential and that it would make the country more freedom filled than other countries. The land of the free is what the United States is nicknamed and it 's because of our rights to express ourselves as freely as we desire.
Although this amendment gave people the right to express their opinions, it still rests in one’s own hands as to how far they will go to exercise that right of freedom of speech. According to Roger Rosenblatt “since freedom is the way people's minds were made to be”, freedom of speech is important to speak one's mind in a way that expresses his/her opinion, even if this opinion does not seem to convince others. In my opinion, without freedom of speech, the United States would have failed to be such a powerful country as it is today. . Although your opinions might disagree with others, you still have the right to voice them. For example, Roger Rosenblatt indicated that when a basketball player for the Denver Nuggets, was suspended from the league because of his religious conventions that stopped him from playing in the league.
On December 15, 1791, the Bill of Rights was ratified effective by Congress. These first ten amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America promised the states certain rights and freedoms which could not be infringed by the government. After all, the founding fathers knew from experience that men in their weakness were often tempted by power. They had become all too familiar with this when under the control of King George in England. Therefore, in order to protect the future people of their beautiful country, they promised certain liberties which could not be taken away. Every single one of these freedoms is important for the United States of America. However, the second amendment is especially important to our nation because it allows the people to protect their freedom and defend themselves and the common good against an overreaching government.
Jackson wants to find something that will make him feel like he has done something for his culture and his people. These sayings contradict his actions because every time he gets closer to gaining more money, he spends it. In the long run, Jackson’s pitfalls did not stop his determination to gain back the regalia and ultimately find his personal identity. Given that he is Native American, the reader might assume that Jackson has a feeling of resentment towards white people due to the displacement of his people. From the beginning of the story, Jackson reveals a protective feeling caused by white people.
The U.S. Military played a dramatic role in shaping the west as we know it today. The U.S. Military has mistreated the Native Americans in numerous ways in the past. Also, they have virtually eliminated nearly all the Native American Tribes in the United States. Before the arrival of the U.S. Military, Native Americans lived almost peaceful lives. In the article "The Earth is all that Lasts," Black Elk talks about what happened during General Custard's Last Stand and what it was like to be a Native American during that period of time.
life, as well as in the lives of the other Jackson’s, there seemed to be so much pressure for success, but they all seemed to lack self-esteem.
Our founding fathers wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to protect our most basic rights as citizens of the United States, and although creating the Constitution was an arduous effort, eventually the new Americans came to an agreement over what was included. “The Bill of Rights — the first 10 amendments to the Constitution — went into effect on Dec. 15, 1791, when the state of Virginia ratified it, giving the bill the majority of ratifying states required to protect citizens from the power of the federal government.” (First Amendment Center). After the first amendment went into effect, all religious minorities were now protected from persecution, and people could freely speak their
In the time period of this amendment, there was one main contemporaneous social justice issue that was related to the abolition of poll taxes: the right to vote by every citizen of the United States. Since the early history of America, voting was restricted to wealthy white male (Sigler, 15). Being a government based on democracy, it is contradictory to only listen to the requests of a portion of the people. As the people who were restricted to vote because of their skin color became intolerant of this injustice, they began to start various movements, the Civil Rights Movement, which focused on the goal of reaching social equality, and of course, within the goal of reaching social equality was the right to
The First Amendment of the Constitution is the most important and debatable of them all. The First Amendment states; “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, of prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
