Automotive Education in High Schools Learning automotive technology is a big step into the automotive future. There are many high schools where students do not know the first thing about cars. This needs to change to help students in case they ever stumble across an automotive problem so they know what to examine and how to fix the problem by themselves. Having automotive classes in high school will not only help students know what the problem is, but it will save them money on towing and taking their vehicle into an automotive shop. If high school students learned how to examine and fix automobiles, then it could save them in the long run if there is ever a automotive problem. In high school automotive classes students are taught about the ins and outs of vehicles to allow them to examine and repair any problems that occur to automotives. There are some high schools that teach automotive technology and helps students know the ins and outs and maintain and repair a vehicle. This allows students to be able to maintain their own vehicle so the it last them longer then it would if they didn’t know how to maintain it. In high school automotive classes teachers present their students with many different problems to a vehicle. This allows the students learn how to examine a problem and determine a way to fix the problem with other classmates. There are different ways that a problem can be solved, either by yourself or with other classmates like Jason Hlavacs said in his article, “Making in Automotive Technology” that maker movement,” Is based on taking an idea and bringing it to reality- on your own or with a small group of people…”(Hlavacs 34). Hlavacs includes this in his article on automotive technology, because some students are better off working alone because they aren’t scared to mess up in front of others or they are better problem solvers when they work alone. Integrated science will help the students take on the first step to a problem that’s they come across. With integrated science students have to plan out the problem mentally before they physically start fixing that problem. This makes students use their brains and understand the problem before working on it and has them ask other classmates for their opinion to help solve any problems with teamwork. When students learn tech they will learn about every part inside and outside of the vehicle. The students need to know each and every part in order to advance in the hands-on part of the class. This will make sure the students know what they are working on and talking about if they are explaining the problem to someone else. Next students will need to know engineering because engineering is where the hands-on stuff goes on. Working on automotives can be dangerous depending on the situation, so students need to always be on alert and make sure everyone is aware of their surroundings. Math is also a big factor in automotive technology because everything is based on math, from wiring to all of the engine and transmission work, the running of the vehicle, and all of the tools used to assemble the vehicle. Math and science are the two main things that need to be taught and forever stuck in students brains if they are going to make a career in the
