There are many reasons why Australians consume the foods that they do, sometimes we consume food aimlessly without even thinking about the food habits we have developed. I live with my parents which means that a lot of the foods consumed are based around convenience or they are cultural foods that mum and dad grew up with when they were younger. As a university student, I bring in my own income which also influences my food consumption. The aim is to use the Food and Diet Questionnaire and Food Frequency Questionnaire to ascertain the amounts of foods I eat as well as seeing what influences my food choice.
I am lucky enough to still live at home where mum cooks the main meals and does all the shopping. We follow an Australian Diet which consists of traditional dessert foods such as pavlova and lamingtons as well as various dishes particularly from the Italian, German, Croatian and Chinese cuisines (Australian Government, 2012). There is an abundance of fresh fruit, vegetables and meats which help to meet our daily dietary requirements.
If I started doing the shopping and cooking my meals then I would decrease my consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables and increase sugar intake (Papadaki et al as cited in Ansari, 2012). My eating patterns would change and I would begin to skip meals, snack on unhealthy foods and revert to consuming fast foods as the main meals in my diet (Savige et al as cited in Ganasegeran et al, 2012). This would increase the risk of heart diseases, high LDL cholesterol and obesity (National Heart Foundation of Australia, 2009)
As a student and low income earner I would look to purchase more energy dense foods to maximise the calories obtained for the money that I spend on them (French, Wall & Mitchell, 20...

The purpose of the Australian Dietary Guidelines is to help people control their weight and the proper foods to eat. There are five main food groups to the dietary guidelines which are meats/ poultry, vegetables, fruits, grains/ bread and dairy. The dietary guideline implies you to eat 1 piece of meat, 5 vegetables (1/2 cup), 2 pieces of fruit, 2 dairy products and 7 serves of grains. All this should been consumed in one day to maintain a healthy weight and diet. I personally don’t eat 2 pieces of fruit a day but I do eat 5 vegetables every day, I don’t eat 7 different grains I only eat about 2 different grains but not every day only one a week. I drink or have yogurt every day during the

Food and cuisine is one of the most important and influential aspects of how a country's culture is shaped and by looking at how this has been accomplished, it is clear to see direct links between dishes and aspects of Japanese and Australian Culture. REFERENE By researching a meal from each country, Okonomiyaki and Damper, connections are made and analysed between identity, culture and the communication.

Forty-eight percent of individuals who cooked dinner six to seven times a week consumed 2,164 calories, 81 grams of fat and 119 grams of sugar daily. They were also able to conclude that those who consumed home-cooked meals depend less on frozen foods and are less likely to choose fast foods. However, as explained in, “Tasting food, tasting freedom: excursions into eating, culture, and the past” Sidney Mintz explains in chapter eight that the majority of Americans often choose to eat out at fast food joints because of the convenience of these meals. Mintz states that these meals are usually diets, “high in animal protein, salts, fats, and processed sugars, low in fresh fruits and vegetables, drinking more soda than tap water.” This is where cultural, and social aspects create conflict when attempting to switch to this healthier lifestyle (although it is feasible). Depending on an individual’s schedule, it will either be an easier switch to make home-cooked meals, or just another difficult task to accomplish throughout the
The Canadian Food Guide1 is an important health promotion tool, as long as it is adapted to the sociocultural context in which it is used. This is crucial for the First Nations, which are struggling with health problems related to nutrition and whose traditional eating habits must be taken into account2. Drawing deeply into their values and culture, Atikamekw health services have developed their own Food Guide (AFG) in 1998. For ten years, it was the main tool used by health workers to teach basic principles of healthy eating.
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.

The majority of men would also lack good advice or information to improve the nutritional choices. Since men rarely prepare meals, they are used to quick and easy unhealthy foods and they are not educated in the health foods which are available. Men would mostly rely on their partners or family members to provide the meals, knowing very little about the nutritional intake of each meal. The most popular solution to improving their health and exercise was to participate and engage in accompanied, physical, recreational activities. The assistance of weekly meal plans and daily recipe ideas would overcome all the barriers listed above and encourage a healthy eating
