Audrey Hepburn once said, “The most important thing is to enjoy your life - to be happy - it’s all that matters.” Audrey Hepburn has had a large impact on society for decades. Audrey was born under the name Edda Kathleen van Heemstra Hepburn-Ruston in Brussels Belgium on May 4th, 1929. She lived in England for most of her life until World War II forced her and her family to move to the Netherlands. As a child, she took ballet lessons and when she was older she finished her studies in London and Amsterdam. She then mastered dance and expanded into acting and modeling (Gutierrez-Folch). She started out as a chorus girl and as a background person in many plays. When she moved to New York to be on Broadway, she was cast as the lead in a production called, GiGi. After that, her career took off and she became one of the most successful actresses of her time ("Audrey Hepburn Biography"). Audrey Hepburn was such a legacy because of her famous roles, her distinct fashion sense, and her contribution to society.
The many roles Audrey Hepburn starred in made her gain popularity and have a lasting impact on Hollywood. Audrey Hepburn’s first major role was Roman Holiday with Gregory Peck (1953). The movie is about a Princess who escapes royal life to have a day of adventure in Rome. She meets a reporter who wants to do a story on her, they then go on many adventures, and eventually they fall in love (Grimm). Her performance in this movie won her an Academy Award for best actress. She also won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Actress ("Roman Holiday -Awards"). Also, Audrey’s work with UNICEF and the Audrey Hepburn Children’s fund left a lasting impact on the world. Audrey Hepburn has had a lasting impact on the movie, fashion, and charity industries and will forever be remembered.
