Living in a Chevrolet Astro Van versus living in an Average Apartment in Vancouver While living in Vancouver, British Columbia I have had the pleasure of experiencing the pros and cons of living in a camperized Chevrolet Astro van and also an average one bedroom apartment. It can feel a little claustrophobic at times, especially if there is more than one person living in there. Cleaning your van, even in it’s messiest state, is easy. The maximum time it would take is a half hour. The cooking area can be inside or outside depending on your design. Van life in Vancouver is very doable weather wise due to it being on average, above zero degrees the entire year. On rare occasions, the temperature will drop below zero, and sometimes it will snow. During these times, some extra clothes may be needed while sleeping; you can also buy an extra blanket to keep you warm. The colder temperatures only last for a short time and are bearable. Another option is to purchase a space heater for the van. Dealing with weather while living in an apartment is easy. Heat and air conditioning can be adjusted to a specific temperature regardless of the temperature outside. Living in an apartment in the winter is more desirable due to being able to avoid cold temperatures, and having an indoor bathroom.
