After dancing over thirteen years at Annabel Timm’s School of Ballet, I was given the opportunity to help teach a hip-hop class for kids in elementary school. Every Wednesday night, I would meet fifteen little girls at the studio and teach them a new dance to perform in front of their parents. After only a few lessons, each girl became such an important part in my life. During class I would answer their questions about technique and different fundamentals of dance, but when class was over I answered questions about their homework and talked them through all of their problems pertaining home and school. I realized I wasn’t just a dance assistant to them, but I was a mentor.
Within this environment, modern dance was born as an expression of the worries of that time. As opposed to the discipline of the ballet of the major Academies of Europe, which had its roots in the aristocracy, it was logical that modern dance was linked to the poor masses and established itself as a means of expressing the concerns of the American citizen. The dance technique and the choreographic view have been influenced by the problems of everyday life, representing the anxieties of the people, under the slogan "Dance is weapon in the revolutionary class struggle" of the Workers Dance League.
Learning and teaching new choreography every other day is hard enough, but also having to keep up with strong technique and flexibility along with workouts makes things even tougher. Nonetheless, needing to excel in all of these aspects of drill team add to the amount of time I taking working on dance and trying to improve. No matter how long I have been dancing, there is always room for improvement. Many issues and problems emerge in organizations that require action by leadership in order to maximize productivity. Because numerous decisions are made on any given day in an attempt for a school or organization to operate as smoothly as possible, constant effort and energy is required to monitor an organization’s culture. A problematic situation in my current organization that is rooted in employee motivation and attitudes is the lack of satisfaction communicated by group members. A year ago, the organization participated in a culture assessment that was conducted by the Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA). This audit was ordered by our executive director because of the displeasure and dissatisfaction employees were communicating and displaying while at work. The
I took classes, such as dance conditioning and dance science to increase my knowledge not only in dance but most importantly physical therapy. These two classes helped give me a whole new perspective of the human body and how dance can heal through somatic practices and alignment. Related movement classes like improvisation will help me in my future while working closely with a patient and adapt to the client’s needs while using good communication skills throughout the
One of my personal goals is to graduate from both high school and college. I wanna graduate and get my diploma and degree. If I graduate both schools it will help me get a good job and be able to afford the house I want and get my own car and pay my own bills. Another goal is to gain access to a good college if I get into a good college,I can make more money and get a really good job that probably pays a lot. My career is to become a neurologist or a police officer. I would wanna become a neurologist because I really adore babies. If I graduate high school it would make me believe that I can do better in college. It would make me believe that anything is possible like getting my diploma as if it was a piece of
Being a dance educator, I am capable of expanding the knowledge of my students. Attending technique courses such as, ballet and modern, courses based on exploring the science of the body, history, composition, and production have contributed to my knowledge of being a dancer. It is the students that will be the future educators, performers, and artists of dance. I will encourage the students to not only learn from myself, but themselves and their fellow classmates. Learning from other students is a way to pick up on mistakes and help one another.
I am also studying Higher Dance this year and am enjoying the opportunity to explore my own choreographic abilities more creatively and investigate different types of movement that I have not tried before. Dancing everyday inside school is a new experience for me and is proving to be something that I would love to do and would work very hard at in University and into my career. Outside school I try to gather as much experience as possible to enhance my performance abilities. I am a member of the National Youth Choir of Scotland where a high standard of music theory is required, and this has allowed me to understand what life in the industry may be like through the long hours at residential courses and public performances.
...dance education is to continue growing throughout public schools and colleges in the United States, students, parents, and the rest of the community will need to stand behind their dance educators. Dance has always served a form of great exercise that allows people to express themselves through movement, and will continue to do so into the future. Dance education in the elementary level is a place that may need some help in child development, and the way to solve this problem is by getting classroom teachers who are skilled in dance and creative movement instruction. Dance education in the secondary level also needs to get highly skilled teachers who are also certified in dance themselves. It would also help attract more students if dance was presented in a different department other than physical education. Dance education in the college level is taught by certified dance instructors, therefore dancers in this level are able to explore movements, while being critiqued by someone who knows what is happening. Dance education has played a major role in the development of children of all ages, and will continue to do so, as long as dance educators and dancers have the proper support.
What is my personal purpose? Is a question that I have never thought to ask myself until recently. Then when I started learning more about a personal purpose I started wondering if I have one and what it was. I never thought of myself has having a real purpose until a watched an interview Will Smith had did and he had said “When your life means something to someone other than yourself than you have a purpose.” That is when I realized that I have a purpose. My purpose is that I am the hug that let others know it is going to be ok. My personal goals is to be genuinely happy with myself and life and to make my parents proud, my career goal is to own my own business and being successful at doing so, finally, my educational goal is to get my bachelors degree and grauate with honors and even moving on to getting my masters. Having goals is important to me because I know that while I am in the process of accomplishing them I will have something great to look forward to in the end.
1. As a choreographer I have gotten the chance to look at dance from a completely new perspective and it has affected my thoughts about different aspects of dance in the following ways. Dance training is super important to prepare you for choreography. Some moves are taught in training that are difficult to learn and need lots of practice. It is difficult to teach these moves in a choreography class because you often only have enough time to choreograph. It is also important as a choreographer to have lots of dance training because the more training you have, the bigger your dance vocabulary will be for you to pull moves from. This makes choreography less work because you don’t have to make up your own moves, just take from what you have already
As a part of the PVA dance program, I feel my perspective on both the scope of dance as an art form, and the multi-faceted approaches to dance, have broadened. I have had a great number of opportunities over the past three years to push myself and to witness others push themselves in creating and performing dance. I have also been humbled by the extent of talent I have witnessed in my peers and teachers, and these experiences not only allowed me to be more open to dance in all it 's forms, but also encouraged me to continually strive to better my dancing. Although I will most likely not pursue a career in dance, the work ethic and value system which I have learned in my three years of dancing with PVA, will continue to shape my perspective on myself and the world around me.
