Dancing everyday inside school is a new experience for me and is proving to be something that I would love to do and would work very hard at in University and into my career. Outside school I try to gather as much experience as possible to enhance my performance abilities. I am a member of the National Youth Choir of Scotland where a high standard of music theory is required, and this has allowed me to understand what life in the industry may be like through the long hours at residential courses and public performances.
1. As a choreographer I have gotten the chance to look at dance from a completely new perspective and it has affected my thoughts about different aspects of dance in the following ways. Dance training is super important to prepare you for choreography. Some moves are taught in training that are difficult to learn and need lots of practice. It is difficult to teach these moves in a choreography class because you often only have enough time to choreograph. It is also important as a choreographer to have lots of dance training because the more training you have, the bigger your dance vocabulary will be for you to pull moves from. This makes choreography less work because you don’t have to make up your own moves, just take from what you have already
As a part of the PVA dance program, I feel my perspective on both the scope of dance as an art form, and the multi-faceted approaches to dance, have broadened. I have had a great number of opportunities over the past three years to push myself and to witness others push themselves in creating and performing dance. I have also been humbled by the extent of talent I have witnessed in my peers and teachers, and these experiences not only allowed me to be more open to dance in all it 's forms, but also encouraged me to continually strive to better my dancing. Although I will most likely not pursue a career in dance, the work ethic and value system which I have learned in my three years of dancing with PVA, will continue to shape my perspective on myself and the world around me.
