Assignment #1 – Identify Learning Objectives During the time of my internship, I expect to learn at least three educational objectives. The first educational objective or goal that I expect to learn is to further my knowledge about plumbing. My second goal is to learn more about management in general and what makes managers different from other employees. The last goal that I have for my internship is to gain experience communicating and working with others. The internship lasts twelve weeks, so I believe that I will be able to accomplish all of these goals. I work in the plumbing department at Menards so it is required that I must have some knowledge about plumbing. Before going into this internship, I had no experience with plumbing. …show more content…
This goal will be very valuable as these skills are important to every job. I feel that everyone should have these skills. Having good communication skills is essential for my internship as I am communicating with customers and employees every single day. If I do not have good communication skills I will not be able to perform to my best ability and help customers. From what I have observed so far, most of the other employees have good communication skills. However, sometimes problems occur when there is a communication problem. An example of this is when I had to help a customer get a shower down. To do this I had to call receiving and tell them what product to bring down for the customer. I thought that I had done this clearly but apparently, they did not get the message that they had to bring a product down. A guy from receiving said that I had to call right away so the customer is not waiting forever. I did call right after, so there were clearly some communication problems. Now this type of situation would also deal with working with others. The other employee and I were both friendly and calm about the situation and handled it properly. However, if the other employee (or myself) was not good at working with others, we could have got into an argument about what really happened. In the future, an indicator of success would be to note each time a situation went well (or bad) due to good communication skills and the ability to work with others. Noting how the situation could have went would also be helpful for in the future so the problem does not occur again. Near the end of my internship, I will be able to understand how to handle situations like this again and see if I have improved on these
Resolving conflict is an art of communication as co-operation helps reduce anger, stress and frustration, allowing the team to function properly making them more productive.
The common statement, “The customer is always right” is entirely wrong and this interpersonal situation is a perfect example of that (Kim, 2014). Bre is a customer service representative for a gym facility and is faced with an angry and rude customer and no matter what Bre said, it was not going to make things better for Emily. Emily made it obvious that she was angry by interrupting Bre while she was talking, cursing, clenched shut month when she was not speaking and for assuming that it is the establishments duty to call her and inform her about her account and expired credit card (Richmond, McCroskey, & Hickson,
However, my manager felt bothered from the customer and was busy doing other managerial work at the time. If I were the customer service representative, I would have wrote down he customer information, including the product information and assured the customer that I would look into ordering the product once time permitted. This would have kept the customer happy and retained the organizations relationship with the
First apologize for the inconvenience even if it was not your fault. Second listen to the customer, confirm you are addressing their concern. Then take responsibility, stay positive and calm, explore solutions and stand your ground in order to not break company policy.
1. The origins of intelligence testing begins with Alfred Binet assessing intellectual abilities. He was doing this because a new law in France made it so the French had to attend school. Binet thus made the idea of a mental age, the chronological age that most typically corresponds to a given level of performance. This was used to separate the “dull” children with a lower mental age and the “bright” children who had a higher one. Eventually, Lewis Terman revised Binet's test and produced the Stanford-Binet variant, which is widely used. William Stern derived the intelligence quotient, which is mental age divided by chronological age times 100.
Another communication skill I can improve upon involves keeping my stress in check. My career is busy and stressful, and I currently tend to allow incidences to weigh on me and I continue to carry the weight, which has interfered with my ability to effectively communicate with my administrator, teachers, associates, parents, and students. One way to I plan to improve on this skill is by reminding myself that silence during conversation is not always a bad thing, and sometimes my mind and emotions need that wait time to maintain meaningful and purposeful
There was this day that I caught a customer being very impolite to an employee after he had difficulties finding an item for the customer. The customer heartbreaking motions had made him apprehensive and he began to freeze. I instantly advanced over to the circumstance keeping in mind the end goal to help the customer and the employee, and endeavor to determine the circumstance in a quiet and professional way. I then began by remaining beside the employee and revealing to him that everything will be okay and that I would assume control from
The internship will include orientation on the function and will focus primarily on learning and developing new skills. This will help in the deeper understanding of concept through hands on application of the knowledge learned during the internship.

For the intern in a small start-up, as a technical assistant, I need to deal with much troubleshooting with my limited knowledge.
