Many children go to a music class or at class at least once a week or every couple of months to learn about art history and to express themselves through it. But, the debate about funding for art and if it should go somewhere “more important” is still being debated. Arts need funding in schools because they help improve other major subjects and school arts offer many jobs for people who want to teach art.

First arts need to be funded in schools because they help improve other major subjects. Many schools use songs or rhythms to teach and help students memorize knowledge. In some cases, arts are used to fuel imaginations into creating things or they can show students a way to be interested in learning. Without art, students grades decline because the use of creativity is lost. Getting rid of art classes would be devastating to the art teachers. Many children will grow up wanting to pursue art and teach others about it. Teachers are crucial for students and their learning. Taking them away would hurt the teachers and the students as they would not be able to express themselves. A few years ago, “Chicago public Schools dealt a blow to arts education when it laid off over 1,000 teachers as a result of its recent decision to close over 50 schools. Among the most affected areas was arts education, in which 10 percent of the teachers let go taught art or music. It was reported that among the 1,581 teachers laid off, 105 taught art or music.” (Hambek). It is unbelievable how many teachers have been laid off.
