Throughout time different forms of art had conveyed various meanings to many people. Whereas some people like to feel and create art in all of its forms for just admiration and/or inner enjoyment, some others separate themselves by focusing on finding or constructing a meaning that the own author or creator intended to communicate and disperse to society. Nevertheless, one thing that brings these very different types of people together, making them share one same idea, is that art is a very important aspect of our everyday life and that it should be exercised for the benefit and achievement of the full human potential. This event made me recollect how art actually helped me improved some of my skills. The event took place at a local convention in the city of Salinas, in a place called, Current Comics, where people were able to display and exposed many of their different types of graphic novel, and sometimes even sell them. The exposition like I mentioned had many graphic novels inside small glass boxes in which the illustrations grabbed the spotlight by drawing the crowds into admiring them. Usually, a good definition of what a graphic novel is, is a bundle of books featuring sequential art. Some of the types of graphic novels presented at the exposition range from novellas, collections of comic strips (typically around a central theme or storyline), collections of serialized comic books around a single story-arc, collections of short stories or vignettes, and compiled anthologies featuring the work of multiple authors. Art has been around for as long as humanity has existed, and it is much more than just drawings or paintings. Art is what every a person makes of it. Art can be drawings, paintings, writings, or even dancing, but never is it contained to just one of those things. As we explore just two aspect of art it is important to realize that there is no right or wrong way to look at the art. Art comes in many different forms, in which they are all interpreted a little differently by different people. For me, when I read a poem I do not instantly know what the poet is trying to say and I don’t find it as interesting, but when I look at a painting so many more thoughts comes and I can’t help by imagine what that artist was thinking while he was painting.
Art, unlike other words cannot be characterized by one simple definition; the meaning of art is much more than a surface level interpretation. Over many centuries, art has proved to be a way people can express themselves, plays a role in shaping cultures, and allows for communication through many different ways of expression. Art, when created in accordance to the aesthetic form, is the channeling of an experience into a subjective format, i.e. a novel, a painting, a piece of music, or any of the many different art forms. The reality of an event is translated into the chosen medium, and in this sublimation of the event, it is modified in accordance to the “demands of the art form” and the subjective perspective of the individual. As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. Growing up in a predominantly white neighborhood as a kid sanctioned me to perpetually become aware that I was different from my neighbors. Through some social interactions with my friends in elementary schools, I quickly descried that my appearances, such as my hair, eyes, and nose was different from my peers. Ever since I started talking this class, English 1301, with Dr. Piercy, I have been able to expand my writing and thinking skills. Not only was I able to make more better essays but I also learned important topics such as how education creates an impact in the world. In this essay I will be talking about three writings and how they are related to this course semester. The three writings are “On Bullshit” by Harry Frankfurt, “Why I Write Bad” by Milo Beckman,and “Statement of Teaching Philosophy” by Stephen Booth. Edmund Burke Feldman was an Alumni Foundation Distinguished University Professor of Art at the University of Georgia. He was an art educator as well as an art historian. He has written several books about art including The Philosophy of Art Education, First Edition, 1995. The primary focus of this paper is to inform and show what Doctor Feldman thought was important to art teachers by correlating the practices of teaching art to the issues of philosophy Doctor Feldman wanted to bring together both subjects of art education and art teaching. He outlined the principle issues of art education and provided art teachers with a way of creating goals for teaching art.
When I scheduled the class Persuasive Communications, I had no particular interest in the subject matter; I just needed to finish the general education requirement for a second writing course. It fit my schedule and sounded reasonably interesting, but I did not think I would gain much from it. It was a general education class after all, and would not be very high on my priority list. Now that the semester is almost over and the class work is complete (albeit after this paper), I feel as if I gained a lot from this class. The class’s main objective was to expand our skills as writers, but it served in teaching us many other things that hold value in our education and future careers.
Because each art discipline appeals to different senses and expresses itself through different media, each adds a special richness to the learning environment. Arts help people Learn to identify, appreciate, and participate in the traditional and non-traditional art forms of their own communities and the communities of others. Art teaches us how to be imaginative, creative, and reflective. Different art forms help us develop the verbal and nonverbal abilities necessary for lifelong learning. The intellectual demands of the arts help us develop problem-solving abilities and such powerful thinking skills as analyzing and evaluating. Numerous studies point toward a consistent and positive comparison between concrete education in the arts and student achievement in other subjects. A program in arts education would engage students in a process that helps them develop the self-esteem, self-discipline, cooperation, and self-motivation necessary for success in life. Most important, the arts should be experienced and studied for their own true value.
