Social media is a phrase being thrown around a lot these days, but it can be difficult to answer the question “What really is Social media?” Social media is essentially the websites and applications we use to create and share content about our every day lives, through participation on various sites. Information technology (IT) is the category that social networking falls under, and is rapidly changing while being integrated into many areas of modern day Australian life. The reason being, children of the 21st century are considered the digital generation. It’s the latest technology that spreads information faster than any other media around the world; and this is why social media is appealing to the ‘digital generation’. Social media has a number of positive characteristics in every day life, however there are also a number of negatives that correlate. The negatives of social media have not only been proven to damage the well being of individuals, furthermore their families and communities also feel the effects. There are countless social networking sites around the world, existing to support a variety of interests. For the majority of children and adolescents, access of the Internet is greatest in the home. From 2008 to 2009, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the use of IT was significantly higher in households where children were present, as opposed to those without. Interestingly, 91% of households where children were residing had access to a computer, whereas only 73% of households with no children present had access to a computer. The ABS also noted Broadband Internet is more likely to be accessed in a household where children resided. The major contributing factor in the outcomes listed above was income... ... middle of paper ... ...ount of time spent on social networking sites is critical in order for parents to have a sense of control over their child’s online presence, whilst minimising the chances of addiction to these sites. Social networking is doing more harm than good in society, if traditional and personal interactions continue to be replaced with conversations through online networking sites, it won’t be long before they are perceived as the ‘norm’. Traditional methods of interaction will continue to be at risk if the effects of social media are not realised. Social networking sites were created as a means of making it easier for individuals to communicate in a timely and efficient manner, they were not created to take over face-to-face communications altogether. The constant use of online networking is doing more harm than good not only individually, similarly through the community
Social media is a revolutionary way to connect to friends and family through a single app much like Facebook. Also allowing the public to be more informed on current events whether that would be an issue in today 's society all the way to a heartwarming story or a funny video. Although this sounds amazing and the fact that this type of news outlet is practically new. An issue arises that involves “fake news” and with that comes many opinions on what to do about it. I believe that people browsing these platforms should have a little bit of skepticism behind each story and if it the topic truly intrigues someone then they should look into the topic on a reliable resource before passing on the authors misinformation.
There are now 5 "big" social networks, and 6 if you count YouTube. The social media beast has not only become mammoth, but voraciously hungry, needing to be fed on a consistent basis. It is enough to send a business owner into paroxysms of anxiety! It gets unnerving for marketers, too. More channels means more choice, for both the consumer and the marketer. Inevitably, the consumer 's attention span becomes shorter, fleeting and elusive; the number of combinations and messaging options veers towards infinity as marketers combine modalities, narrow demographics and customize a morass of information to be strategically dripped out over time.
As technology propels society into the 21st century, the archaic form of paper is being replaced by a digital world. Many see this shift as a positive because the world is going “green” and saving paper. Some say this change simply makes their lives easier. Others, however, are not so excited about it. The thought of everything going digital makes many people uneasy. No longer will people be sitting on their porches chatting about the evening’s newspaper, but rather, the evening’s newsfeed. Although there are many benefits to social networking, there are just as many dangers associated with it, particularly with adolescents. Social networking, while used by millions of people around the world, can be detrimental to one’s well-being when used in a negative manner.
Would you consider Social media to be worth the benefits with so much at risk? Social Medias main purpose is too share information with your close friends. But, recently social media has been a big risk to use. The users of social media think that if their profiles are private that only those people can view their information. Unfortunately that is not entirely true. People post very personal information on these social websites. Once a user posts anything on the internet it immediately can be accessed by other people. The Government no matter what country could see anyone’s profile on any social media website that they wanted. The United States Government closely monitors social media. “The number one problem is that the United States does not have data-protection.” (Clemmit, 13) They are allowed to see anything that they want no matter how many restrictions the person has on their account. All of our information is up for grabs. The only way to keep something “private” is by keeping it to yourself and not using social media at all. The biggest problems now are that companies could see pretty much anything and everything that you have ever posted. They have the technology to do in depth background searches. They will pull up information to as far back as your first post on the internet. People post pictures, write statuses, and also show them participating in illegal activities. All of this could be used against you in the future. After you post something it will be their forever. It doesn’t matter if you delete it. Someone could always retrieve it. Once you delete a piece of information it is still stored somewhere that the normal person could not find. In today’s day technology has too much power. Social media has proven to ...

Due to the high amount of emails that we often send out every day, my suggestion is to include hyperlink icons to our signature in emails in Outlook to increase Comcast’s visibility and followers. We have a variety of social media sites that our employees and customers do not even know about. Most people know that we have a Comcast page on Facebook, but did you know that we have a Comcast Impact, XFINITY, and XFINITY Latino page as well? In addition, we also have a Comcast LinkedIn, where our employees can access latest news, insights, and opportunities or to simply stay connected with one another. Along with that, we also have a Twitter for XFINITY, NBC Universal, and ComcastCares, where it’s the official support account that provides help and technical support to our customers. Additionally, we also have Comcast California Twitter that shows the latest tweets about the events that are taking place locally. Lastly, we have an Instagram account for XFINITY to keep everyone updated about our latest technology and events and a Comcast YouTube to let people have a taste of what’s in

We live in a world that has become addicted and dedicated toward social media and it is driving America’s youth into the ground. Teenagers and adults are so wrapped up in social media that is runs their lives every day. Constantly people are checking their phones for the latest on social networks. The cyberbullying that comes with these social networking sites definitely isn’t helping teenagers’ self-esteem or mental state. The affect these site have on academic performance is not exactly benefiting America. They may provide quick communication and a way to catch criminals, but both of these benefits have drawbacks. Social media can be used in our days as a very helpful tool for many things in changing any person’s life ant attitude. It has a positive impact on the society level. These media will keep the person socially active and open to all what happened in the world. Sharing the latest news, photos, finding new friends and knowing the culture. Also, it allows for millions to keep in touch with each other and update for all the new technology. And, it helps people who have difficulties in communication with others to be more socialized and stronger and develop more confidence to feel more comfortable, protected and relaxed just sitting behind a screen. “It saved me time and money without ever requiring me to leave the house; it salvaged my social life, allowed me to conduct interviews as a reporter and kept a lifeline open to my far-flung extended family” says Leonard(231).

One of the main reasons why social media has positively affected our society is because of how it has made communicating with people much easier. “Today, four out of five active internet users maintain at least one social media profile” (Moe, 3). Using these websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and etc., people talk about everything with anyone from what they are planning to do, to what they are eating and much more (Moe, 24). We can also send private messages to other users of these websites about personal matters that you just want to discuss with them.
