Would you consider Social media to be worth the benefits with so much at risk? Social Medias main purpose is too share information with your close friends. But, recently social media has been a big risk to use. The users of social media think that if their profiles are private that only those people can view their information. Unfortunately that is not entirely true. People post very personal information on these social websites. Once a user posts anything on the internet it immediately can be accessed by other people. The Government no matter what country could see anyone’s profile on any social media website that they wanted. The United States Government closely monitors social media. “The number one problem is that the United States does not have data-protection.” (Clemmit, 13) They are allowed to see anything that they want no matter how many restrictions the person has on their account. All of our information is up for grabs. The only way to keep something “private” is by keeping it to yourself and not using social media at all. The biggest problems now are that companies could see pretty much anything and everything that you have ever posted. They have the technology to do in depth background searches. They will pull up information to as far back as your first post on the internet. People post pictures, write statuses, and also show them participating in illegal activities. All of this could be used against you in the future. After you post something it will be their forever. It doesn’t matter if you delete it. Someone could always retrieve it. Once you delete a piece of information it is still stored somewhere that the normal person could not find. In today’s day technology has too much power. Social media has proven to ... ... middle of paper ... ... world will drop tremendously. “Eighty-six percent of 18- to 29-year-olds use social media, compared with about a third of those 65 and older. But participation nearly quintupled among those 50 and older between 2008 and 2012. Nearly three times as many 30- to 49-year-olds use social media now as in 2008. Among 18- to 29-year-olds, the increase was just 19 percent, with the same proportion using social media this year as two years ago. “ (Price 12) Social media is a massive growing problem. A lot of people keep joining every single year and they seem to stay using social media. The more people join the bigger the dangers of social media will have. In todays society social media just creates a ton of issues. We as a whole have to monitor it or go as far as getting rid of social media completely. This world will deteriorate is social media will continually be used.
“Social media, a web-based and mobile technology, has turned communication into a social dialogue, and dominates the younger generation and their culture. As of 2010, Generation Y now outnumbers Baby Boomers, and 96% of Gen Y has joined a social network” (Qualman 1). Social media now accounts for the number one use of the Internet, and this percentage is rising bigger every day (Qualman). As a consequence, people are becoming more reliant on social media, which has a led to a number of advantageous as well as unfavorable effects. The world is more connected today than it has ever been in the past, and this is all because of growth in technology. What has yet to be determined though
Social media is a revolutionary way to connect to friends and family through a single app much like Facebook. Also allowing the public to be more informed on current events whether that would be an issue in today 's society all the way to a heartwarming story or a funny video. Although this sounds amazing and the fact that this type of news outlet is practically new. An issue arises that involves “fake news” and with that comes many opinions on what to do about it. I believe that people browsing these platforms should have a little bit of skepticism behind each story and if it the topic truly intrigues someone then they should look into the topic on a reliable resource before passing on the authors misinformation.
Many people have access to social media daily. Sometimes people do not even think about how much they rely on social media. Many jobs would not exist if it were not for the social media; jobs like computer repair and even the people who created the computer and social media websites would not have jobs. People of today need to take a moment and realize and think about if all this social media use is

You can keep in touch with your family and friends or you can network your professional skills online. Social media does have some drawbacks though. Having your personal information posted online can lead to privacy problems. Hackers and criminals can access your information and use it for fraudulent purposes. You also must keep in mind that the things you post can and will be viewed by others. This can potentially lead to problems both in your personal life and your professional career. I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write. Three of the reasons behind my confidence is I learned, I experienced and best of all I repeated. These three values helped prepare me for what is in store in English 1302 and here is why.

Social media has caused a substantial decrease in face-to-face time, stopped people from working effectively, and has caused an increase in bullying. Social media as defined by dictionary.com is “websites and other online means of communication that are used by large groups of people to share information and to develop social and professional contacts”. The problem with social media is that it is becoming so big and a huge distraction. Studies show that fifty six percent of everyone in America has some sort of social media application. Considering babies and seniors probably don’t have access to a phone, this is a huge number. For the amount of individuals that have phones the percentage that have social media is quite high (insert amount of people). Not only has the amount of people on social media has increased, it will continue to increase for a very long time.
Social Media is defined by Merriam-Webster as “forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos)” (Merriam-Webster), and for many Americans is a method of social interaction that is used often on a daily basis. It has been determined that one in five people use social media at least once a day and that 19% of Americans between the age of 15 and 54 are on sites like Facebook and Twitter(). It’s no longer common place to send handwritten letters or birthday cards, now writing on a wall, sending a tweet or snapping a picture is accepted. Although social media has provided todays society with instant forms of communication and ways to connect, it also created a new standard for living and has caused problems for many groups of citizens in all walks of life and has caused society to re-think its usage. There are two views about social media, either that. It is a positive addition to society and its benefits outweigh the risks, or that social media causes more harm than good and it’s usage should be limited.
There are about one and a half billion users of social media worldwide. It can be used to meet new people, find old friends, chat the day away, join interest groups, or even to share pictures. Social networks were mostly created so people could meet and find new friends. What most users of social media don't know, are the dangers of using social media. One example is when you meet a person online, because they are not always who they say they are. If someone is not who you may think they are, who could they be? They can be a stalker or a person that wants to steal your identity; which could be done easily thanks to new developments of new technology. Also thanks to new technology it is now easier for people using your information to track you. Posting personal information can risk your family and friends lives. Social media can be used as a weapon against you. It can even lead to a kidnapping, or even someone's death. Many people use social media to help to waste time, but could also become an unhealthy addiction. Also social media can damage your future. When you are a teen you tend to post pretty much anything you want. This is dangerous because you can post too much personal information. What most teens don't realize is that what they do on social media now can affect them for the rest of their life. It can even come back to haunt you in the future. Social media is dangerous because it makes it easier to be stalked, identity theft to happen, kidnappings and murders, and also can ruin your future.
