A person may wait, but time will not wait on the person. I have skipped off on many things that I’ll do “tomorrow.” But thinking that if I will be satisfied with my life if it ended right now, being unable to do anything else in life, makes want to do more a show everyone that I could do better. Karl on the other hand, decided to wait until he was on his death bed to repent for his sins. The main question asked by Simon was “What would I have done?” For my viewpoint, if the Nazi’s did a lot of horrible crimes against the Jews, then the Jews should never forgive the Nazi’s for what they have done. Simon was just a random kid who was grabbed from the street and was put in a room to listen to a man. Simon’s tone throughout the interaction was very opposed to being in the guy’s presence. Simon even said that at points he wanted to leave but Karl kept saying to stay with him. Karl just wanted to say what he had to and then Simon could leave. Asking a stranger, the question of forgiveness shows that Karl wants an answer for his conscience. The question of forgiveness is a question that a lot of people are involved in and have different responses to. Answering in a positive way can anger many people who are more scarred by the actions of the enemy. If you are sorry and are guilty of doing horrible crimes you must still pay for your sins. Even though Karl was a dying man and wanted forgiveness as a dying wish, you should not give him what he wants when it involves other groups of people. Karl procrastinated on asking for forgiveness Simon’s conscience been disturbed by the events of Karl. The moments when he told the prisoners of the interaction with Karl, shows that the matter weighed heavily on him and wanted to have a second thought on the matter. By Simon’s disturbance, it allowed him to make the book and ask many different people to write a response to what he should have done. By doing this he showed that he is unsure what he could have done, maybe wishing things were different and could go back
