Hunter VanDresar Our invasive government is second to none in New York State on our economic system? The economic system of today is broken; our state needs to believe in their citizens. Our state isn’t doing that, it has there foot on our throats and we are desperate for air. The state isn’t ours any more; the governor of our state isn’t listening to our protests.
On January 16th 2013, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the Secure Ammunition Firearms Enforcement Act (SAFE ACT), which was a slap in the face for all responsible New Yorkers to protect themselves. New York State is becoming a dictatorship; if we as responsible citizens of this state want to put more than seven rounds in our guns then we are considered under The “SAFE ACT” as criminals.

The government isn’t the answer, government is the problem. Gun Control is never the answer, look at the whole picture before this law took effect. The gun company Olympic Arms made it very clear in a statement that they will not sell to anyone in New York State, nor the state itself. In a statement here it states on their Facebook page “No New York State government entity or employee of such an entity will be served as customers” (Cooper, Mike. "New York Gun Ban). LaRue Tactical has their own pathway for the safe act; the company is “it’s simply not worth the risk of accidentally selling a firearm to anyone in New York. So they won’t sell to anyone in New York- including police” (Cooper, Mike. "New York Gun Ban). Well there goes our state sales taxes, these companies won’t even sell to citizens within New York State because of the stupid safe act law. The safe act has to be repealed. New York is becoming a dictatorship with Governor Andrew Cuomo steering us for the cliff of no return. This state is becoming a dictatorship because the government is telling the citizens of New York that a 7 round clip is ok, and an 8 round isn’t. A person can do as much harm with seven as eight rounds but, truly there is a difference, one is legal to have and one isn’t. If one has an 8 round clip in New York State it is illegal. According to the governor’s press release, this law would ban the possession of the pre 1994 high powered magazines. Also the owners of these clips would be required to sell them out of the state within a year. The remaining high capacity rounds can stay in New York but, they have to be loaded within the regulations, 7 rounds only. The people in New York State also have to reregister their firearms such to the people that own handguns and assault weapons would have to reregister their firearms every 5 years
The SAFE act has considerable problems with the legislation, for instance it is already in the process of amendment because of the way the law was written. According to the New York State Sheriff’s association (NYSSA) this law could potentially make law enforcement officials be committing crimes just by carrying their standard issue sidearm under the new definition of an “assault weapon”.
Left, right, Liberal, Conservative, Democratic, Republican. There are a lot of synonyms for the sides of our nation divided. Divided on many things: religion, political views, morals, etc.. For a nation that prides ourselves on extraordinary security and unity, it is quite ironic that so many issues can cause such distress and uproar within communities. One such issue is gun control. As a white male in a middle-lower class family that has never owned a gun, I may be somewhat biased. Objectively as I can, I am going to report the facts and more importantly, try to find the core issues at play.
In Colorado where twelve people where killed legislature has combated this with tougher background checks and limiting all magazines soled to a ten round capacity limit.according to politics/policy after Colorado enforc...
With all the shootings and random acts of violence, such as the shooting at the movie theatre in Colorado, or the Sandy Hook shootings, stricter gun control laws have been a hot topic in politics and the national mainstream media. The government thinks that gun control being stricter would help to make less of these tragic incidences occur. I am against this thought because I believe that the law-abiding citizens will be the only ones to give up their guns and criminals will then have an upper hand on the innocent. Even though banning guns is supposed to save lives, cities such as Chicago have already shown that stricter gun laws should not be passed because violent murders are still prevalent in these types of cities and strict gun laws have not worked like they were supposed to.
The Gun Control problem in the United States of America is all because of the problem that we have with people not knowing how to use a gun, and the safety. The reason the laws are being brought to legislation is make sure that we protect our second amendment. Make sure that every American has the same right a bear a weapon, no matter the age but if they are fit to own a weapon.
There are several contextual events which heavily influenced the transformation of New York City’s political system. Many social forces such as “migration of capital, jobs, people . . . [and] technological changes” also heavily contributed to the fiscal crisis during the 1970s (Tabb 324). The exodus of jobs and higher skilled workers coupled with the presence of a large unemployed population in New York City created a declining tax base. Additionally, the general devolution of the federal government interest in local politics and the general shift in considering the urban fiscal crisis as more an individual problem rather than a systemic problem, also mean less funding from the federal government to help balance the city’s budget. During this process, however, the degradation of power and authority was relayed from the federal to state. Cities still remained responsible for the balancing their budget without having much authority (Eisinger 309). With a growing impetus to create a fiscal balance and increased globalization, cities have more heavily relied on the business community to provide
New York has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. No permit is required for the purchase of a rifle or shotgun in New York State except in New York City. A license to posses a pistol or revolver is required to purchase a handgun. Outside New York City, a person licensed to posses a pistol or revolver may apply at any time to the licensing officer in the county of their residence for amendment of his or her license to include one or more such handguns or to remove a gun held under the license. No person engaged in the selling of firearms may transfer such gun to another unless the transferee is provided with a gun locking device and a label. Any manufacturer that delivers a handgun to any person in this state shall include in the container that encloses; a shell casing of bullet or projectile discharged from such handgun, and additional information for such handgun. There is no state license requirement for the possession of a rifle or shotgun, as long as the barrel is at least sixteen inches in length and the shotgun barrels is at least eighteen inches. It is unlawful for any person certified unsuitable to possess a rifle or shotgun to possess a firearm. A license...
Today in America we face many controversial problems. With strict gun control, Americans cannot feel safe, and to some the thought of not being able to use a firearm in self-defense is very frightening. We Americans should never have to be in fear of not being able to protect ourselves, especially in the comfort of our own home. How are strict gun control laws and regulations going to reach the estimated 65 million gun owners that own approximately 240 million firearms (Just Facts Gun Control)? The answer is simple, they can’t. There must be an end to gun control, its problems significantly outweigh any good intentions it has, and besides there is no doubt about it, America is a safer place when the citizens are able to own firearms.
On Friday morning, November 6th, a man in New York city woke up and watched the news. There he saw former mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg, announcing his ideas for gun control. The news stated that after spending millions of dollars to spread his “Everytown for Gun Safety” across the country, United States citizens were still not impressed. Bloomberg’s main goals are to enforce stricter background checks, remove guns from domestic abusers, and give families the right to remove guns from people they believe are dangerous. According to the “Gun Control Overview,” pro-gun control advocates only focus on a select few gun violence issues, and they tend to repeat the same examples in their rhetoric. The gun control is one of the most debated
When the United States Constitution adopted the Second Amendment as a part of the Bill of Rights it was to recognize citizens the right to keep and bear arms. This Second Amendment is the reason why strong gun advocates are afraid to have any gun policy put in this state. The people that have their guns believe that the government is going to be corrupted and the people have to overturn it. But, they live in a fairytale if they really thinking that they are going to beat a army like the United States. They are afraid that the local government will take away their guns. This policy that I will explain to you won't do none of these options, but instead help the state lower the crime rates that involve guns and keep law enforcement well know to people that have guns in their possession. We are trying to go after the illegal owners of firearms instead to outstanding citizen that owns gun trying to protect his family from an home invasion, protecting his herd from wolves so the farmer won't lose more money , or just having a good time hunting with his friends and family.
Gun control is an awfully big issue in the United States today. Many people in America don’t agree with the gun control laws that they have today. Gun control laws only take guns and freedom away from law-abiding citizens. Many citizens have their own reasons for owning a gun. Why would the government want to make it harder for people to own a gun? People that own guns aren’t very likely to be attacked by criminals. Owning a handgun is one of the best ways of protection when used correctly. The second amendment states “the right to bear arms”; does this grant everyone the right to own a gun? Gun control laws have not been proven to do anything for citizens. Gun control laws just make it harder for the good guy average Joe to own a gun. Gun control laws are not a good idea, and are taking part in the loss of our freedom that was given to us.
Gun violence in America is a public health crisis, which needs to be recognized and changed by legislatures, and the voting American. As conscious Americans, we need to vote for changes to gun laws that would improve background checks nation-wide, make firearm registration mandatory, restrict the sale of assault weapons and weapon modifications that give the shooter military-grade fire power, and invest in gun-safe technology and safe firearms storage designs. This type of technology will help prevent criminally oriented people from accessing guns, and will help prevent the accidental deaths of many children by guns. This essay will explain the reforms needed to help ensure Americans can still exercise their 2nd amendment right of owning firearms, and preventing the unnecessary deaths of many Americans at the same time.
The debate over gun control in America has constantly been brought up over the years due to gunmen killing large amounts of people in shootings. From Columbine to Sandy Hook, or the shootings of the two reporters in West Virginia, these public shootings are occurring everywhere. Lawmakers and civilians alike are pushing for increased gun control in hopes of preventing the same tragedies. Anyone that has been affected by the shootings has been pushing Congress and state governments to force new sanctions on the government. Over the past three years, Congress has shot down all the laws despite the large amounts of public support.

This year there was a new gun law added to the long list of gun laws. In Colorado and Oregon the law was passed with a huge margin. The law states that you can not buy a gun at a gun show without a background check, and for it to be a gun show there only needs to be 3 or more people. So, in other words many of the police officers in the world will now be breaking the law when the switch guns with other officers. For instance, there are four officers standing around at the police station, and a couple of them decided to try out each others gun for a day or two. Under this new law, the officers have now broken the law. Many gun owners say there is no need for this new law. The NRA and many other pro-gun groups did everything they could try and make sense of it to people. Even after spending almost 2 million dollars, they still failed. (Kleck). Sarah Brady, Chair of Handgun Control, Inc, was quoted when she said, " These two overwhelming victories clearly demonstrate that all Americans, including gun owners, support responsible gun laws which keep criminals from buying guns.
