Crazy Teaching Methods: Flipped Classes
Just recently, the flipped classroom has started to become a new method for teaching. My current math class is flipped and I am struggling a lot more than I ever have in past math classes. I feel that it is not as effective as normal teaching and that it shouldn’t be used. A flipped class is where the teacher explains the lesson in a video. I feel it is not as good as normal teaching because there is no direct contact. They should not be used anymore.

The flipped classroom is a new idea for teaching. In 2014 at least 78% of teachers have flipped one lesson (Ferriman 4). A flipped class is where the teacher records him or herself teaching the lesson, and then posts it so the students can watch it before they come to class. When the students come into class they already know that lesson so they can work on homework with the teacher there so they can ask questions. 96% of teachers who have flipped a lesson would recommend that method to others (Ferriman 5). That method does not work as well as the normal teachings. If you get put into a flipped class, you will have a harder time learning as you do not learn from directly from the teacher. The best thing that you should do if you get put into a flipped class is to just try to get out of it because you will be in for a tough time. It just creates unnecessary struggles. The normal method of teaching has been used for years upon years and it has always worked just fine, so I do not understand why teachers want to try to change the ways of teaching as people have been learning just fine for years.
