Education in the United States has slowly and surely become corrupted and overcrowded. Education is extremely important for the growth and development of our economy and system of the United States. The public school system has molded students to come into society prepared and ready for success. The public schools have faced many challenges throughout the years. As time went on classrooms increased in size which caused more issues to rise. The mixture of elevated student enrollment, the increase in students dropping out of school, and the increase in competition between students is what is making the educational system fail. In the United States, a functioning democratic society has one main focus which is achieving happiness for themselves and their families. Diversity stimulates tolerance so that all people may have equal opportunities and freedoms to live a comfortable life without fear of judgment. Democracy is full of decisions and choices for the individual. For example, in the United States we as citizens have the freedom to vote, the freedom of religion, and the freedom to make choices that will affect the society and the individual. The freedom to choose your path provides a sense of control over ones fate, but allows for people to address bigger concerns like society’s needs and issues. “U.S have served our society well because they have embraced democratic values-flawed in execution certainly, but at least valuing democratic ideals” (J. Hoffman 111). Communication is important with societal problems because it helps citizens to evaluate the problems that occur within their democratic society. It provides debate to discuss exactly what needs to change in order to solve the problems of society and in the classroom. Choices give students a feeling of control over their academic future. Having choices in classes, schools, or curriculum enhances the student’s interests in any academic field they choose. Students are more passionate if they are learning something that they find interesting. “Working on their own projects, listening to others, trying to fit whatever direct instruction they receive with the material they are learning on their own..”(Nodding 130) Although Nodding was not saying this way of learning should be the only way but being engaged in the subject of choice may lead to finer grades and fewer dropouts. What can also lead to finer grades are better teachers. We face the dilemma of tenure in the United States. Tenure gives the ability for impassionate teachers to continue teaching even though they may find no merit to it; this is problematic for our schools because students are stuck with bad teachers and bad experiences. In the film, Waiting for Superman, the film illustrated the problems with tenure and how hard it is to maintain great teachers without proper assessment and the ridiculous systems they have to pass the inadequate teachers from school to school. As Horace Mann wrote, education is the “great equalizer for all.“ However, the United States Public School system will likely never be able to equally educate its masses of students. The education system has been changing in recent years and the same problems that existed continue to get worse as years pass. Problems that were seen as minor at first have now grown. How to change the public higher education system has been a major topic of discussion but there has still been no major action taken. We struggle to figure out how much funding is needed for higher education and where it should come from. Our people continue to suffer from an underfunded high cost system. The wealthy minority of people continue to be the only ones accounted for and it is time to change this. We need to adapt to the changes and the costs that continue to rise. What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
I chose this topic because education is all around me. I am literally surrounded by illiteracy. From the moment I leave my door, to the moment I return, I am able to witness illiteracy in my society. Therefore, I could connect well to this particular topic in detail. So many children younger than me, of my age and also people elder to me do not have access to education. Even though 86.1% of the world is illiterate (CIA World Factbook), the other 14.9% have absolutely no access to education!
What is special education? The common belief is that it a program only dedicated to helping students with disabilities, whether physical or mentally. This is not entirely accurate in regards of what special education is. While special education does provide assistance to students with disabilities ns meet their needs in quality education (Küpper 2009)—the program extends to all students facing difficulties keeping up with the pace of learning (Huerta 2009). This brings the next question onto the table: the importance of special education. Before 1970s, majority of students with disabilities were shun into isolation with little to no education in general classes (Bradley 2016). Public School Systems are cheating American kids out of an education. A high school diploma indicates what students learn in achieving it, but in reality students have been learning and earning greatly less as the years have gone by. As a former public school student myself, I know we are not given the same opportunities are students in private schools. Public school students have been told that the reason our education is limited is because of funding but in the video it states that public school spend more money than private schools and still not have a better outcome. More money hasn’t improved schools. So, what’s the real problem?
Art Education is not always valued in school settings. Although some may see it as an unnecessary use of school funding, there are many who believe it is beneficial to students in more ways than one. There are many different studies that have been conducted to test the effects that art education has on school-aged children. Some studies have proven that art education can help students to improve in other academic areas. In a journal article from Ohio State University’s “Theory in Practice,” Karen A Hamblen states, “There are linkages between art learning and learning in other subjects areas and that art study can promote creative behaviors, critical thinking skills, and academic achievement.” It has also been found that the arts can teach children better self-regulatory strategies, and even foster more confidence and self-efficacy in school which relates to confidence in academics. Overall, art education in schools has been very beneficial and has proven to ignite creativity, confidence, critical thinking skills, and academic achievement in students.
The world grows smaller and smaller as time goes on; maybe not literally, but definitely through some points of view. With everything and everyone being more connected than ever now thanks to advances in communicational technology and with the merging of cultures from all over the world, a suitable form of education needs to become the standard to accommodate such a world. Global education teaches students about the world’s different cultures, traditions, religions, languages and other important global factors contributing to our modern world. When teaching, teachers determine almost everything that happens within their classroom. Including what information they have students learn, and how they pass on that information. Imagine a family, a family that has it all. Good neighborhood, schooling, and robust health. Everything seems to be going right for this family, then all of a sudden one event changes the course of their future forever. The father makes a poor business investment which causes the family to loose their savings. Now that all of the savings are gone and they are living off check to check, they need to cut back on wasteful spending. Public education uses to led the road to success, but after going through thirteen years of it and seeing what the public education system is all about, people have come to realize that it only affect others later on in life negatively.
Education is a very powerful key to success in modern day American society. More often than not, a person will not be able to find a decent job unless they have graduated from a reputable college with a degree. Because of this change in society, it has brought a lot of pressure by parents for their child to graduate and get a degree. A lot of those who graduate with a degree are not always the best candidate for the job, and even with the degree, they are not even always guaranteed a job. But personally, getting an education shouldn’t be as big of a deal, as it is now. Back in the day, most people did not go to college, none the less graduated from high school; yet they still made it through and learned lots of things from their jobs that they acquired.

In addition, studies show higher levels of risky health behaviors such as smoking and obesity, to be associated with less schooling (Freudenberg & Ruglis, 2007). As such, finishing secondary school has become a useful measure of educational attainment due to its influence on health.
Because some teachers become lousy after receiving the tenure - Howard Fuller, former superintendent of Milwaukee, said “… I’m going to fire these people…” Phillip Davis Guggenheim said, “He fired them but was forced to rehire them with a years back pay because of a provision in the teachers’ contract which guaranteed their job for life called tenure…” Some teachers become useless after receiving the tenure and no one can do anything about it because they can’t fire them. Therefore, some schools uses the “lemon dance”, which tend to exchange bad teachers with other schools bad teachers and the cycle goes on and on. As Fuller explained, “…but for public school teacher tenure has become automatic you can get tenure basically if you continue to breathe for two years whether or not you help children is irrelevant once you get it, we cannot get rid of you… you are there for life, even if we can prove you are a lousy teacher” Once they get their job secure they forget about providing the students’ a good education. Some argue that it is not the teachers fault for students not learning, but the students themselves not wanting to learn. However, the teachers should motivate the students desire to succeed but they
