Color blindness effects millions of people each year and is a very common disease. The argument I will make is even though people with color blindness may have set backs that require them to adjust their lives differently; they can still lead normal and productive lives. The issue they face is not due to the fact that they have difficulties distinguishing certain colors, but the lack of cones in their eyes. People with cone and rod defects have a hard time with light sensitivity, which affects their lives on a day-to day basis.

The state of Massachusetts has a color vision requirement. According to The
Official Website of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, “Applicant or licensee must be able to distinguish the colors red, green and amber. If the applicant or licensee cannot distinguish the colors red, green, and amber, a license is not possible (Official
Website of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles).” This is the only state that I found that had this color vision requirement. I interviewed my friend Max Almono who is colorblind and the problem he has is distinguishing purple from blue and green from red. I was unaware that he had color blindness until we talked about a blue shirt that I had on and he called it purple. I asked him “How does this affect your daily life”? His response was “For the most part, I have no issues with the way I live my life. It does not affect me the way many people think about color blindness.
