When it comes to mind, most people think of apprenticeships as a thing of the past, but apprenticeships are still a relevant system. Apprenticeships are intended to build up the youth to someday be able to master the skills that they are learning now. Apprenticeships are the way to solving many problems in the world. According to Susan Ladika in her article Apprenticeships, “Apprenticeship programs offer on-the-job training and specialized education for young adults just starting a career”(Ladika). She also says that apprenticeships are mainly focused in the areas of construction and low-tech manufacturing (Ladika). Based on this information, one could come to the conclusion that apprenticeships are a necessary system in the United States. Without someone being trained in these arts, how will citizens be able to have safe roads, clean water, or electricity? Apprenticeships allow the masters of these occupations to train up young adults to someday also master these jobs.
Just like a regular job, apprentices are paid. One thing that separates apprenticeships from other jobs is that the money they make comes from their masters. Internships are not always paid, and do not compare to apprenticeships when it comes to on-the-job training. Apprenticeships will entail the educational requirements in the classroom, as well as the training required to close skills gaps in a more efficient way. According to Ladika, apprenticeships will last four years, with approximately 2,000 hours of training, and at least 144 hours in the classroom (Ladika). She goes on to say that most apprenticeships will start out paying $15 per hour, and most apprentices will begin their career earning $50,000 per year
The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz by Mordecai Richler is the tale of a young greedy boy who feels that money is his path to happiness and pride. Duddy simply stomps all over his friends and his family as well (to a certain extent). Richler feels unreserved sympathy towards Duddy because, in essence, Duddy is Richler written down and diversified. Duddy is a character based on Mordecai’s own personality.
In 1794 organized labor unions were formed to protect workers from poor working conditions and low wages. The Knights of Labor and the American Federation of Labor were formed in the late 1800’s. (Difference Between Knights of Labor and AFL). Both the Knights of Labor and The American Federation of Labor original goals were to improve working conditions for employees. Although the unions started out separately, during hard times and low membership they had to combine worker unions to regain their strength.
Similarly, the change towards a factory-orientated nation was a harsh one for the industrialists. Many of the adult labor force had no training in how to use the machines and took awhile to pick up the new techniques (Basu and Van, 1998). It was more time consuming and costly to teach the adults than it was to hire children during this start of the revolution. Children could be molded into the ideal adult worker as they rose through the ranks in the factory. Studies indicate that about 50% of workers started working in the factories when they were less then ten years of age, from this overall amount 28% of these child workers started working when they were under the age of fourteen, while only 7.8% of workers started working in the textiles from the age of twenty- one or higher (Nardinelli, 1980). The aging of the generation of child factory workers improved the quality of adult factory workers and created a reserve pool of adults with factory experience. This pool of adults was particularly significant for men. As a child worker, they were exposed to many different positions and so learned a great deal amount of experience. Not only were the children fulfilling the basic factory needs but were creating a more work experienced labor force for the future. No longer where adults having to learn how to use machinery when entering the factory market but instead had worked in a textile during their childhood so had already obtained the human capital needed to work. The factory would then profit off of this future human capital and so keep on employing the massive amount of children in order to better themselves for the future while at the same time reaping the present value of cheap labor. In the United States, the history of Career and Technical Education evolved within four major periods. First, the Awakening period which began in 1776-1826, when the right to a free public education was expressed. During this era, educational opportunities in labor and industrial education were being demanded. The rising working class began to press for an education that were more appropriate for their labor and industry’s needs (Awakening 1776-1826, 1976). Even Benjamin Franklin who represented the Awakening middle class was on board with the rise of technical and vocational education which were taught primarily by private masters or contracted apprenticeships (Cohen, 1976).
Dana Goldstein a journalist from The Nation says that, “47 million American jobs are expected to be created between now and 2018, and about two-thirds will require some sort of education beyond high school.” In making this comment, Goldstein is showing us that the only way to be prosperous in the future is to educate our children. Goldstein goes on to say that, “27 percent of workers with occupational licenses earn more than the average recipient of a bachelor’s degree.” In other words, Goldstein is trying to tell us that a bachelor 's degree isn 't the only way to go and that we need to increase funding for vocational schools and community

The men, women and children that worked in factories during the 18th and 19th centuries were brutally mistreated causing poverty, injuries and pallid body types (Thompson). At the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, working was incredibly unsafe because there were absolutely no labor or safety laws. Working conditions back then were extremely different from those that are in place today. The unbearable working conditions caused a vast amount of labor laws and rights.

It represents a tradition of providing young people with vital life skills. Part of this is the chance to learn a craft, to build expertise and to excel in a particular vocation (Lammy, 2007).
Trade schools offer a wide range of technical skills including automotive, carpentry, plumbing, and health care. Some trade schools assist in job placement after graduation. People often stay more focused in class, while learning a trade/skill they find interesting. Moreover, they will save money and time because they know what job they want. Most trade school only last a few months.

Internships should first be examined that, when implemented at fullest potential, these opportunities can provide companies and students with a competitive edge in today’s business world. Subsequently, it can be shown that internships assist organizations and companies with temporary or seasonal project and task completion. Lastly, internships will be clarified as to how they allow students to gain valuable experience before entering the workforce. From reviewing an ample amount of research, internships are beneficial and advantageous to the success of a young student, as well as companies.

Imagine a family, a family that has it all. Good neighborhood, schooling, and robust health. Everything seems to be going right for this family, then all of a sudden one event changes the course of their future forever. Now that all of the savings are gone and they are living off check to check, they need to cut back on wasteful spending. Before, the education system used to have the best interest of children but instead it seems as if the professionals who work for the system cares more about the job qualifications than the true value of education and how well the people are attaining it. Public education uses to led the road to success, but after going through thirteen years of it and seeing what the public education system is all about, people have come to realize that it only affect others later on in life negatively.
Education is a very powerful key to success in modern day American society. More often than not, a person will not be able to find a decent job unless they have graduated from a reputable college with a degree. Because of this change in society, it has brought a lot of pressure by parents for their child to graduate and get a degree. A lot of those who graduate with a degree are not always the best candidate for the job, and even with the degree, they are not even always guaranteed a job. But personally, getting an education shouldn’t be as big of a deal, as it is now. Back in the day, most people did not go to college, none the less graduated from high school; yet they still made it through and learned lots of things from their jobs that they acquired.
