The 2012 theatrical released movie Argo, set in 1979, focuses on the Iranian hostage crises, specifically on the military operation preformed by Tony Mendez, Ben Affleck, to rescue six refuges that were able to escape the overrun U.S. Embassy (Argo). The movie begins with a prologue, which provides the background of the reasoning behind the uproar of the Iranian people. The narrative begins with Iranians protesting outside of the walls of the U.S. Embassy; as the lock to the gate is cut and protesters start to rush the building, employees begin to burn the classified documents (Argo). Once the building has been overrun the employs are taken hostage, however, 6 of them manage to escape (Argo). With nowhere to go the six Americans find refuge …show more content…
In lieu of a plausible identity for the six Americans, as well as himself, Mendez decides to fly over and pose as a movie scout, and clam that the other 6 were staff for the movie (Argo). With the movie cover approved and gaining legitimacy in the press, Mendez is sent to Iran (Argo). Once Mendez is Iran he helps the six learn their fake identities (Argo). The night before they are suppose to leave, Mendez is told to abandon the mission, however, he decides to go against orders go through with the plan anyway (Argo). After getting over a mishap with the plan tickets and getting momentarily pulled aside at the airport the group proceeds safely through security (Argo). Once on the runway, police cars chase the plane, however, it’s to late and the Americans are flown to safety …show more content…
The actors represented their characters well and the fact that the actors looked similar to the actual people was a nice touch. In class we glazed over the specifics of this incident: we talked about how this crises put a damper on the Carder administration and how the hostages originally captured in the building were released when Reagan entered the Whitehouse in 1981. Basically, the story is true: six Americans stranded in post-revolutionary Iran were smuggled out of the country on the pretence that they were a Canadian film crew. However, unlike the portrayal in the movie, Canada had a much larger role in the recue; instead of just harboring the Americans, The Canadian ambassador actually contacted Washington to begin the escape plan. Canadians also scouted the airport before the Americans made their flight, bought the airline tickets and coached the six in sounding Canadian. Other inaccuracies are present, such that, the Americans were not pulled aside at the airport and police did not chase the plane. Also in the real events the actual movie was called The Lord of the Light, however, later it was changed to Argo because that was Mendez’s favorite knock knock jokes - “Who’s there?” “Argo.” “Argo who?” “Argo fuck yourself”. Although this gag was placed in the movie it had a different origin than original events. In the movie Ben
Kinzer tells us that the Iranians celebrated their nationalism in taking control of their oil, but their success was a shock to the British multinational companies in Iran. They did not like the idea of Iran nationalization, so they plan a coup to overthrow the Prime Minister Mossadegh. But this plan failed and the British were disarmed and sent back to their country closing down their embassy in Iran. The British tried to present their case to the United State in a way that the United State would intervene. So they presented a case that Mossaghe is not only nationalizing the Iranians oil, he is also leading Iran into communism. This case stirred the American action and they feared if they assassinate Mossaghe, his seat will be open and communist ...
The United States poured millions of dollars into Iran’s economy and the Shah’s armed forces, overlooking the rampant corruption in government and well-organized opposition. By early 1979, the Ayatollah had murdered the Shah and taken back power of the government. A group of students who took the American embassy hostage on November 4th, 1979, turned the embassy over to the religious leaders. Carter knew he must take action in order to regain the American embassy and the hostages, but with all of the military cutbacks, the rescue attempt was a complete failure and embarrassment. It took the United States 444 days to rescue the hostages.
.... The action flows so seamlessly between the two elements that they often seem like aligned narratives rather than a mise-en-abîme. This flawlessness is used as a great outcome, further emphasizing that human cruelty is nothing new. It's easy to forget that Atuey, Columbus, Las Casas, Montesinos, etc. are actors playing roles-within-roles because they seem just as "real" as Costa, Sebastian and Daniel. The film's entire cast is incredible, but the star was Juan Carlos Aduviri, he gave both Atuey and Daniel distinct identities with a few common traits. Daniel and Atuey are both forthright rebels, but they have dissimilarities and (including living centuries apart). As an activist for morality and equality who believes in speaking truth to power, I found Even the Rain especially impactful. This film is certain to inspire many of us to keep fighting for what is right.
Act iii, scene iii, lines 108-131 of William Shakespeare’s “Othello” unquestionably shows Iago’s trickery and deceptiveness which is masked through his reputation for honesty, reliability and direct speaking. This section not only shows Iago’s slow but powerful act of deception, but also shows the jealousy and insecurities slowly depriving Othello’s inner peace and balance.
Iago’s Subconscious Motive Iago, the antagonist of Shakespeare’s work, Othello, is often considered purely evil or sociopathic. At first glance, Iago appears to be a static, two-dimensional villain, but he is much more. Shakespeare, renowned for his awareness of the human condition, leaves many important aspects of Iago’s life up to interpretation. In published works and critical interpretations, Iago is commonly associated with a myriad of mental illnesses and personality disorders. Because it seems that Iago’s life revolves around Othello and Desdemona, it is understandable how people may suggest that Iago is in love with Othello, or that he is a psychopath with no true motives.
Othello, a play by William Shakespeare, tells the tragic tale of the black Venetian general, Othello, and how he is manipulated by his ambitious friend, Iago. Iago becomes angry at Othello when he promotes Michael Cassio rather than Iago to the lieutenancy. Iago then schemes a plot to take down Othello. Iago uses Desdemona, Othello’s new wife, to take down the great general. He leads Othello to considering that his wife is cheating on him with Michael Cassio. This causes Othello to become suspicious and eventually drives Othello into killing Desdemona. In the end, Othello learns that his wife was faithful, and Iago had lied to him. This upsets Othello and causes him to also kill himself. Iago’s many motives are never revealed to the audience or the characters as in the last scene he states, “Demand me nothing. What you know, you know. From this time forth I never will speak word.” (Othello. Act 5 Scene 2: 355-356). In the play Othello, Iago is the master manipulator that formulates devious plots against the characters of Roderigo, Cassio, and Othello by using their desires to his advantage to reveal their underlying weaknesses.
The Iran Hostage Crisis was a very important event that impacted America in many ways and destroyed our relationship with Iran. The consequences of this event are still felt today and continue to our foreign policies toward Iran. Throughout the 20th century, the United States tried to control Iran to ensure the exportation of oil to America. Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi came to power in 1941 and became allies with the United States. However, in the 1950s, Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh began to gain political power.

Iago, 28, of Cyprus has been returned to Venice under accusation for the responsibility for two murders on the war torn island. He was stationed in Cyprus as a part of the Venetian force to defend the islands from Turkish invaders. The murdered include his wife Emilia, and one Roderigo. Michael Cassio, governor of Cyprus, arranged for Iago’s trial in Venice this past Friday.
I won't be surprised at the choice of the Iago in "Othello" movie as a choice of villain to compare with the Joker in the "The Dark Knight" movie. The thing that won't surprises me is the way that throughout the play, Iago claims to be something he is not and uses that to influence and fools peoples in the Othello movie, by trying to make them do what he wants. One of the most noted the way that address me to identified the above for what he says, "I am not what I am," this shows the way that there is a crucial and big difference between the inner part of Iago and the outer part of him. Iago is evil, for this reason, lies in the way that he feigns loyalty and service to Othello whilst all the time using that as a guise to plot Othello's downfall.
Cinique's role is African guy who is trying to communicate with Americans that are trying to help him but cinque didn't understand what they were saying or doing. They found a translator that really couldn't communicate with them. But, then they found a guy who can really communicate with them and Cinque told him what had happened and also told him about the slave fortress. He was quiet at first then he stood his ground. In this movie cinque is very accurate and Hollywood got his spot correct.
Throughout the play, Iago is presented as deceptive, in act 2 scene 3, Cassio states “You advise me well” to Iago, this is showing that Cassio is naive to Iago’s deception which links to the theme of tragedy as Cassio’s trust and unawareness of Iago will evidently destroy him in the near future, this quote is followed by “Good night, honest Iago” which furthermore emphasises the fact that Cassio trusts Iago, to the extent of calling him “honest Iago” as “honest” shows that his image of Iago is a truthful, righteous man who seeks justice, when in reality, Cassio has fallen into Iago’s web of deception and deceit, in which Iago will use to furthermore manipulate him to carry out his plans of destroying Othello. This creates a sense of dramatic
Othello opens with the villain Iago declaring his hatred for the protagonist Othello, who has appointed Michael Cassio as lieutenant instead of Iago. Taking action, Iago conducts a plot against Othello under the pretext of gaining the lieutenancy. However, his motivation becomes unclear when he continues his plot even after successfully obtaining the position. He attempts to murder Cassio, and causes the death of Othello, Othello’s wife Desdemona, his own wife Emilia, and Roderigo, a suitor of Desdemona. Iago provides justifications for some of the deaths, but they appear unconvincing, especially when taking into consideration his deceptive nature. Shakespeare never reveals Iago’s true motives for the tragic murders. Nonetheless, considering
Much of the movie is spent in the Iranian court. The opening scene is from the point of view of the Iranian official hearing Simin and Nader’s complaint. He listens as they each tell their sides and argue back and forth, occasionally asking questions and mediating the argument. From the very start,
