The truth is, most kids are motivated, but not for the right thing. As a parent, we know it is very difficult to motivate kids to complete homework, go outside, clean, etc. but with a positive attitude towards the kids you can get them to do anything. Sitting down to talk with them one on one is better than letting the situation go completely. Parents always want their kids to do their best and to accomplish a lot in life, but in todays society the only way they get inspired is to play video games, or watch T.V. Kids are setting less goals for themselves to accomplish. In the United States today the age for a kid to start playing competitive sports continues to get lower and lower. Parents in America have started to get their children involved in sports at a much earlier age than they used to, hoping that their child will be the next superstar. Parents are placing too much emphasis on winning and being the best, instead of teaching their children how to have fun. Parents in the U.S. are also placing too much pressure on their kids to be the best. Parents in America are becoming much too involved in youth sports and are starting to get out of control, sometimes even resorting to violence and vulgarity.

She said this because it shows how when children play sports that there is a major health risk involved and they could be depressed and exhausted. Another quote is, “More kids are participating in adult-led organized sports today, and sometimes the goals of the parents and coaches may be different than the young athletes,” (Brenner). Doctor Joel Brenner said this because it shows how the coaches and parents are sometimes more involved in the sport than some of the young athletes. Though this argument may seem accurate it does not fully explain some of the major health risks and what the parents and coaches are doing to prevent as many injuries as possible.
Sports are a popular pastime among all ages and types of people. People not only participate in them for fun, but also for money, physical fitness, rush of competition, and for many other personal reasons. Playing sports is especially common among young people in schools. With the increased emphasis on the need to achieve academic aptitude, children as well as their adult parents see athletics as an extra, or something that can be done when and if homework is completed. Some people may argue that Competitive sports give children many chances to work with a team, and get in shape(Lisa Bigelow). But this is not always true, some coaches and parents push their kid to the edge and can harm them. Over working a child is not good at young ages, because they can only take so much and their body is not fully developed. Teamwork skills aren’t always provided if a coach is making a player the star of the team, some of kids may feel left out and possibly want to quit. Kids that aren’t as athletic as some kids might not be able to physically do what more athletic kids can do, this can make them feel like they aren’t good enough. The children could have quit because they did not like the disappointment of losing, or because they are exhausted from their parents pushing them too hard. But parents have their reasons for pushing their children into sports. “Studies show that kids who play sports are less likely to become obese, abuse drugs or alcohol or to perform poorly in school” (McCormick). If children are not active, then they will most likely become overweight, and if they have nothing to do in their pastime, they may turn to drugs and alcohol, which usually leads to a decrease of grades in school.
