I took Business Studies GCSE and passed, but since that’s not enough to get me into Trade Quest, I’ve written around 2000 words to explain why I should be accepted. Trading I’m sure that most students applying to Trade Quest will have some form of trading experience. I like to read books about trading and I research stocks, but have no ‘real’ experience. Around a year ago, mid-2008, I wanted to buy approximately 200 shares in Apple (which, at the time, would’ve cost around $3000) but never went through with it. I did a lot of research, however, and knew about their upcoming products, their financial situation, and I would monitor the share price everyday. Not making the transaction was my first (and smartest) trading decision, as I didn’t lose any money. You see, at this time, the financial crisis had just started to take effect, and Apple’s share price plummeted from $175 to around $80 in the 6 months that followed. I have already created a VSE account and know how the website works, where to get the information I need, how to join ‘games’, and have read the ‘Learning the Basics’ section. I immediately invested in Apple once I created the account. I currently have 500 shares and the share price has been fluctuating between $182 and $188 within the past week. I only invested to find out how the program works and was amazed by its realisticity. I’m currently reading Market Wizards by Jack D. Schwager. This book got me interested in trading and inspired me to apply for Trade Quest. The whole book consists of interviews with top traders, their stories, tricks and lessons they learnt. While reading, I learnt a lot about ‘trading systems’. One of the interviewees, Ed Seykota, a trend trader (which basically means trend followi... ... middle of paper ... ...rsonal record! Furthermore, I am applying to Shout! magazine to be a writer for the ‘Current Affairs’ section. I have already provided my first article which would appear in next month’s issue if I’m accepted. I would have to provide an article every month for the rest of my school year. Why am I giving you this information? I want to present myself as a focused individual with a memorable profile, someone who’s committed to certain things, not just someone who dabbles in everything without much commitment to any one particular activity. Because of the fact that I’m well-rounded and committed to certain activities, you can be sure that I have the will to build relationships, participate in groups and approach new environments with passion and vigor. I’ll stride for leadership positions and always cooperate within a team environment. References: (1) about.com
The stock market is an enigma to the average individual, as they cannot fathom or predict what the stock market will do. Due to this lack of knowledge, investors typically rely on a knowledgeable individual who inspires the confidence that they can turn their investments into a profit. This trust allowed Jordan Belfort to convince individuals to buy inferior stocks with the belief that they were going to make a fortune, all while he became wealthy instead. Jordan Belfort, the self-titled “Wolf of Wall Street”, at the helm of Stratton Oakmont was investigated and subsequently indicted with twenty-two counts of securities fraud, stock manipulation, money laundering and obstruction of justice. He went to prison at the age of 36 for defrauding an estimated 100 million dollars from investors through his company (Belfort, 2009). Analyzing his history of offences, how individual and environmental factors influenced his decision-making, and why he desisted from crime following his prison sentence can be explained through rational choice theory.
Briefly describe which single activity listed in the Activity section of your Common Application represents your most meaningful commitment and why. (150 words or less)
Stock exchanges worldwide are complex, seemingly sentient centers of trade. Many transactions are processed at such exchanges and millions of dollars can change hands in an instant. Due to the immense number of transactions, fraudulent practices and backroom deals can thrive if they function unchecked. One such practice is known as insider trading. Insider trading is the practice of buying or selling shares of stock with knowledge of how well the company will do not available to all stockholders. Most people in the stock exchange community regard insider trading as amoral, corrupt, and unethical because of the fear that the trading might hurt or weaken the stock exchange itself. The size of the stock markets makes most traders fear a crash and exempts the market from the economic laws that govern the rest of the business world. If a person were to buy a car or a home wouldn’t he or she shop around for the best deal and attempt to gather all the information about the product they were buying if they could. The same could be said for finding a low interest rate on a loan and the same should apply to stock exchanges.
...te achiever I need to lead by example, and encourage individuals to give their best effort on every project. Although I am a limited self-starter I must learn to communicate more realistic performance standard/goals and promote teammate input.
...en I have a goal. I work hard and don't give up easily. I am a perpetual optimist always looking to the future and learning from my mistakes rather than letting them pull me down. I have a certain amount of natural intelligence, and what I lack I make up for with persistence and tenacity. I have an inherent belief that I will accomplish my goals that keeps me positive and pursuing my goals even when it is difficult to do so.
The first of these characteristics is my hard working mentality, and I am sure that this characteristic is thrown around a lot by candidates but I believe that I truly work harder than most people are willing to. I have had to earn every ounce of everything that I currently have. Whether it was finally getting into Pitt, or playing football at the DII college level the only reason I have ever been able to attain these achievements is that I put in the time, and worked harder than even I thought was possible for myself, I was never the most naturally gifted person in the world, I had to work hard, or I would not be in the position to even apply for a position such as this. Another thing that I feel differentiates myself is that I have experience in many different academic disciplines, I was not that student that simply took my major classes, and easy classes to get through school. I have taken and have a ton of interest in many different topics such as Political Science, and History. I feel that these multifaceted interests, and course history make me a great candidate for the
Upon receiving this project, I immediately began to worry about a survey that would seek to determine how strong of a leader I would be. I cowered at the fact of coming up with either false information or information I felt was less than perfect. I think that this fear alone, confirms my primary style. My primary style is that of Self-Actualization. Self-Actualized individuals seek to always become all that we can with the talents and knowledge we have. We tend to be creative and like to live in the moment. We bring almost a refreshing perspective to most situations and have a continuous intrinsic drive for self-development. I see this style manifested in myself on a daily basis by my strong desire to always meet new challenges. My motivation for success and coming up with new ideas is completely internal, and when the outlook seems grim to others, I am always the one that sees a positive outcome ahead, through the use of a plan. Although, I am currently a stay at home mom, I would imagine that as a manager that worked outside the home, I would share the same values as I do at home. I am a planner and a “lister”, because I feel that in order to tackle a task, the plan of attack must be clearly laid out and readily available to refer to. My backup thinking style is the Achievement style. I think this is very obvious because I seek to find jobs or take on challenges that will allow me to feel a sense of achievement. I have been known to quit jobs that paid a decent amount, but weren’t allowing me to achieve anything. On several jobs before, I’ve ended each day with a feeling of unimportance or frustration because I felt like the majority of my day had been spent working a job that wasn’t fulfilling or impacting the world. I think the fact that I decided to leave the corporate working world to be a stay at home mom, attests to the fact that I want to feel a sense of achievement in the personal raising of my child. I want to set up a standard for my child to ultimately be able to be a self-actualized person as he grows older.
As I’m sitting here typing this, I thought this assignment would be easy but it’s not. How do you explain who you are in a paper? Where do I begin? Well, for starters, my personality, ambitions, and what I love doing should be the best standard for defining my character. One should never be anxious if they do not know everything about themselves, as we are constantly learning and discovering new features of ourselves. Personally, I am satisfied knowing my friends are worth it and consider me an asset. I’m the shortest one in my group of friends which puts me somewhat the end of the ladder. Someone might judge me just because of the way I look or act but, if they could just get to know me even more and see my personality they can see me in a whole new way.
In the words of Soren Kierkegaard: “Personality is only ripe when a man has made the truth his own.” There are many different people in the world. Everyone has a different personality that makes him/her unique. The tenth grade class at Presbyterian Christian School took an academic test and three personality test to discover potential future careers. ACT Incorporated developed the PLAN to show our estimated ACT score, and the possible careers we would do the best in. We also took three personality tests to discover our true personality. KRB Consulting Company made a test where we rate ourselves according the adjectives that best describe us. The second test we took was “The Colors of Careers”, given to us by the assistant to the president of Jones County Junior College, Gwen Magee. The final test we took was the “Jung Typology Test”. The purpose of this paper is to discover the differences in our personalities and the careers that follow our certain personality.
Excellence, leadership, truth, and service are just a keywords that can be used to describe me. As tomorrow’s future servant leader, I push myself and others constantly to excel in and out of the classroom. I have held various leadership positions in school sponsored organizations and external programs. I value my personal integrity and honor the integrity of others. I am a person who others gravitate to because I have a motivating, nurturing, and vivacious personality. It is crucial in a campus environment to have a student population that can
During the Movie “Wall Street” Gordon Gekko is constantly stating that greed is good. Bud Fox, who idolizes this man, is fascinated at Gordon Gekko’s high-performance work practices. Bud notices that Gordon is regularly closing deals and wants to become just like him. While closing deals are the sole point of working on Wall Street there, there are laws that all stock brokers must abide by. In watching this film I looked for the long term goals and what I found interesting was that everything seemed to be random. The market fluctuates at such a fast pace that the only way to deal with setting up any long term goals was to make a plan for only a short period of time. Gordon Gekko was a shark in his field, and as he took on Bud as an apprentice he showed him all of the wrong ways to make a quick sale. Any type of long-term
In the near future my goal is to further my studies; in the nursing field as a Registered nurse. Personally, my main objectives to become a Registered nurse are, to help save the lives of other, accomplishing my goal, and living life more independently. These are the qualities that would best describe personality: enthusiastic, loving, caring, compassionate, honest, and a cheerful individual. I grow up to have deep passionate love for people, especially those that are unable to help themselves on a daily basis. I always vision myself attending to someone’s rescue; that is in danger or in critical condition. What I have noticed from a long time ago; is that the nursing industry is one out of many that devotes their time, patient, and input hard work and effort to help meet the need of others and make a difference.

...ting in Amazon.com might be beneficial because everything that the company offers applies to a mass amount of people. This gives the company a great ability to grow with the times and have their services stay in high demand, this proves true through the almost constant rise of the stock. Facebook might be a good choice to invest in simply because of how popular it is to people using it. The stock has shown a steady increase for a while, and I don’t see a decrease in its popularity happening any time soon, which would make for a good investment. Overall, you can never be sure of the best stocks to invest in because the stock market can change on a dime. However, with using the best available strategies to choose your stocks, and of course with a little bit of luck, having shares in the stock market can be a very financially beneficial decision to anybody who invests.
