Apple Inc. is an American multinational technology corporation that develops, and sells consumer electronics, personal computers and software. Its head office is located in Cupertino, California. The company is well known for its hardware products ie. the Mac line of personal computers, the iPod media players, the iPhone smartphones, and the iPad tablets. Its consumer software includes the OS X and iOS operating systems, the iTunes media browser and more.
Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak along with Ronald Wayne, founded Apple on April 1, 1976 to develop and sell personal computers as Apple Computer, Inc. On January 9,2007 the company changed its name to Apple Inc. due to expansion to consumer electronics. Apple is the second largest information technology company after Samsung Electronics and was awarded the world’s most valuable brand in “Best Global Brands” on September 30, 2013 by Omnicom Group’s report when the company surpassed Coca-Cola in term of company revenue.
Apple has predominated manufacture of personal computers, the Apple II, Macintosh, and Power Mac lines for more than two decades but faced serious sales and market share downfall during the 1990s. Steve Jobs, who was ousted from Apple computers in 1985 returned to Apple in 1996 and introduced a new philosophy of recognisable products of simple design named the original iMac in 1998. Apple established itself as a leader in consumer electronics and media sales with the introduction of iPod music player in 2001 and iTunes Music Store in 2003 both of which got immense popularity over the years which led to the development of iPhone. Jobs did not mix leadership with his management. He had a very uncompromising style and he might not have been a great manager but he created a steller team of managers Tim Cook, Phil Schiller, Eddy Cue and Jonathan Ives who have taken the company much further and have always complemented Jobs style. Their performances were incredible and Jobs respected their opinions as well as mow them down when he had other plans. Jobs proved himself successful in his ways of management style and have been followed by many across the world and I personally admire his work and model him for my inspirations.
