The process for a new AP physics teacher has begun underway with Eric Mazur, Walter Lewin, John Belcher, and David Hammer assisting me to find a new teacher to replace Dr. Navarra. Eric Mazur begins by stating how this new teacher should be good at explaining concepts. “The goal of every teacher is to make sure the students understand the concepts being taught to them only then will they truly enjoy and get the content of the course.” Everyone looks at professor Mazur with looks of agreement and David Hammer then says, “The teacher that we hire should be familiar with modeling instruction since it’s an effective way for students to understand the concepts.” John Belcher replies with, “The new teacher should be familiar with technology for two reasons. …show more content…
One being since technology is evolving at the fast pace that it is today it should be used to its fullest potential in helping the next generation learn.
Reason number two is that Dr. Nagler is big on technology so it’ll be a double bonus if the new teacher is flexible with the new technology.” Walter then adds on how the new teacher should have a good amount of qualifications. “Physics isn’t easy to teach you got to truly know the content and help others know the content. Lectures are helpful too in helping students learn if done correctly. Quick demonstrations and demos should be done in helping the students grasp concepts like newton’s laws. Lastly, I think the new teach should have a decent sense of humor since if the kids find him boring they’ll find physics boring.” After everyone from the search committee had a chance to speak about qualities of potential candidates everyone then began to find similarities in what they found necessary and went off there. Everyone agreed that the new teacher should be smart when it comes to using technology since both reasons provided by John Belcher were enough to satisfy everyone about that
aspect. Eric Mazur and Walter Lewin could not agree on whether the new teacher should focus on a newer style of teaching or lecturing type of teaching. Eric’s defense was, “I’ve tested the difference between lectures and new styles of teacher and have found the new styles of teaching more effective. Post test scores increase a lot more compared to when I used to lecture.” Walter Lewin’s defense was, “If lectures were made not to be so boring, but at the same time factual with demonstrations it can be a very useful thing. Everyone ended up agreeing with Eric and they moved on to where to find the ideal candidate. Belcher offered to see if anyone trained in modeling instruction would be interested in taking a job here. He states how the people trained are trained to use technology and to have a classroom friendly environment that promotes learning. This includes group work using white board, quizs or tests periodically, and labs that help the student graph and see different concepts. Eric Mazur then states how the person you ask should be a patient person since teaching physics isn’t easy. They should take their time in teaching the basics because once the students master the basics the rest will come to them easier. If the basics are rushed the students are going to have a tough time the rest of the year. With the discussion finally over these teachers have decided what would make the ideal AP physics teacher. That would be a technology friendly guy whose patient, highly intelligent, familiar with modeling instruction, has a good sense of humor, and lastly should be familiar in showing common demonstrations.
Ms. Kinney showed me the physics in everything from toys to poetry. We discussed Walt Whitman's "When I heard the Learn'd Astronomer" and Robert Frost's "Birches" along with Newton's Laws and Einstein's Theory of Relativity. She had an amazing ability to teach the most complicated concepts in physics without letting us lose sight of the simple wonder of it all. She made physics come alive for me.Ms. Kinney's class was one of the most rigorous and demanding courses that I have faced, but she gave me so much more than she asked of me. She taught me to love learning and physics, and to appreciate the magic and excitement of discovering and mastering new knowledge. Many students got so caught in the difficulty and high expectations of her class that they did not realize the opportunity we were being given.With Ms.

Steinbeck was an influential author throughout the 20th century with pieces in many genres. On the flip side is Martin Luther King, Jr., a civil rights leader in the fight against racial discrimination. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the style of these two authors, it is necessary to compare them on the bases of repetition, tone, and purpose.

The use of force for police officers is something I find to be justified and right, because it can possible help save the officers life and any witnesses lives.
Every video I watched displayed tools that I could use in my own classroom. The instructional strategies and models used in the classrooms were great. My current teaching philosophy about instructional strategies and models would be that they are great to use. As a teacher, looking for ways to help teach certain lessons is a must. Every teacher found different ways to teach the materials to their students. It is always great to have resources in the classroom to look back on. Students love to have resources to guide them. In the video (Case #1112), I would emulate their strategy by letting my students use a textbook. I feel that textbooks are reliable sources and can be used to validate certain materials. In the video, you can tell that the students were using the textbook as a tool to prove their discussion with each other. In the video (Case #876), I would avoid assessing my students in whole-group discussion. I would have my student in groups to see how they communicate with each t=other about our discussion. Seeing my students evaluating each other’s opinions would be a great way into assessing their knowledge about the lesson. A classroom environment I would like to teach in would be with students who are ready to ask questions. Students who are not afraid to express their thoughts about the instruction. There is a bulletin board on which the teachers have displayed all students written work. Displaying students work on a bulletin board sends message that the teachers value student’s work. Displaying student’s work encourages students to learn. It tells them that its ok to be messy and that the mistakes are part of learning. Along on the bulletin board, students’ names are displayed on the classroom door and on other work is displayed on the classroom’ closet doors.
What is a teacher? A teacher is someone who students rely on for further knowledge and comprehension. Often, a teacher is viewed as a role model towards their students. In many times, teachers can help guide students into a better future. Characteristics like preparation, compassion, having and showing respect to students can make a teacher more effective.
In order to see what it’s like to teach in a school setting, the proficient way of doing that is to go observe a teacher with students in a classroom. In my case, I‘ve spent twenty-five hours throughout this semester observing three math teachers at Bayside High School located in Queens, New York. To be considerate of each teacher’s identity, I’ll be referring to their names as Teacher A who teaches geometry, Teacher B who teaches algebra, and Teacher C who teaches pre-calculus. I’ve taken extensive notes on the diversity of students, the issues of poverty, the methods of how teachers present information along with managing classrooms, and their expectations of their pupils.
Schools were established to teach students the means of survival in preparation for a global economy. Education’s major objective today is to help increase our economy and prepare our students for future jobs. However, the progress of our public school education system in the 21st century has declined over the years. Other countries have exceeded our American Education system, especially in the areas of reading and math. Poverty stricken areas and minorities are being deprived of receiving a good quality education. Instead, only the fortunate and the lucky students are able to receive a good education. Families apply for the lottery scholarship in hopes to be accepted to a charter school as the key for to receive a good quality education.
In the classroom I am observing in I have watched how the teacher and the students start and end their day by following different procedures for ex: attendance, portfolios, grades, and class rituals like morning meeting, transitions and end of the day procedures. All of these procedures and rituals contribute to the classroom culture and are parts of instructional practices. So when the students come first in, in the morning they have morning circle where they do attendance, weather, lunch choices, how I feel today chart and much more. Each student has a job during morning circle which rotates every day so not every student has the same job. So attendance is kept and done at morning meeting everyday which is important for the teacher to keep
Training future teachers is an important part in a good school system because it gives future teachers superior and inferior examples of how to teach. In college, teachers in training will only use textbooks to study. One problem with only learning how to teach through textbooks is teachers can’t see the process of teaching, they only read it. Cameras also benefit teachers because it shows them how they teach. Thomas Roberts an administrator at Hafen Elementary School in Nevada quotes what some teachers’ feedback is, “‘I didn’t know I leaned to the right when I speak. The teacher that I observed was Mrs. Cynthia Carney. She is the kindergarten teacher at Greystone Elementary school. As my first time in the classroom, I tried to observe as much as possible. I had a great first impression of the classroom, it is a very positive environment, and the teacher has definitely established a clear routine and rules that the students follow. The teacher did a very brief (5-10 minute) science lesson/introduction to the unit on weather. Defining and determining the scope and concept of teaching effectiveness is argued to be challenging for researchers (Roche & Marsh, 2000; Young & Shaw, 1999). It is not possible to limit the definition to one dimension, trait, behavior, or classroom procedure totally captures what it means to be an effective teacher. It is believed to be a multidimensional construct, including such issues as content knowledge, or pedagogical knowledge, or personality features of the teacher, and classroom dynamics (Bush, Svinicki, Kim, & Achacoso, 2006; Carnell, 2007).
Instead, EL students benefit in learning new content knowledge when an instructor methodically produces a lesson with a systematic I do you do approach; while purposely adding visuals whenever possible. Modeling content knowledge can be accomplished when the instructor writes the objective or provides an outline of what the lesson entails in student friendly vocabulary for each lesson where students can visually see. Next, the instructor should discuss what the end goal of the lesson is through hand gestures and changing the speed and tone of the voice to elaborate key concepts. Additionally, teachers should provide visual vocabulary whenever possible. Playing videos, word walls, or showing pictures of key vocabulary in a lesson will help students who struggle with differences in language grasp what is being asked of them more clearly.
