In the classroom I am observing in I have watched how the teacher and the students start and end their day by following different procedures for ex: attendance, portfolios, grades, and class rituals like morning meeting, transitions and end of the day procedures. All of these procedures and rituals contribute to the classroom culture and are parts of instructional practices. So when the students come first in, in the morning they have morning circle where they do attendance, weather, lunch choices, how I feel today chart and much more. Each student has a job during morning circle which rotates every day so not every student has the same job. Another ritual that is done is the sharing of space in the classroom. This is important because by learning to share space with the teacher and students it teaches them social and behavioral skills. There have been incidents where students don’t share their playing space with others or class materials. It is so important to discipline students who have issues with sharing because in life you need to share with others and learn to be nice and respectful about it. One other ritual that is important for the flow of the class is transitions that occur throughout the day. The students have a set schedule every day where they transition say from lunch then to library time then to math center time etc. By having transitions happening in the classroom this gives students the opportunity to learn their schedule and lets them know what comes next in the day. One more ritual that I think is important for the flow of the class is the end of the day procedures that is followed by the teacher. What happens in the classroom that I noticed is that the teacher first asks the students to wipe down their desks. Then they are asked to put their chairs up on their desks and after that they are given their homework for the night which they put in their folders to take home. In all my classes my professor keeps track of attendance by going around the room and calling our names and making sure we say here. With grades they keep track of them by posting them online on Plato and giving back tests or assignments in class. For literacy assessments we have assigned dates where we take these which can involve reading or writing. For shared space we make sure during class to share our tables for group work and the way we transition through the day here is when we change classes and go to the next
The teachers’ job is to provide clear and concise communication to their students directly, explaining what is expected out of them and how they are to meet those expectations (Charles, 2014). For my after school program observation I chose to observe the after-school program at Washington Elementary. This after-school program is held in a small gym and since the gym is used during the day for school activities there was no real floor plan to the program. A small carpet was set in the middle of the gym for circle time and the supplies and check in sheet were kept on a table. The rest of the room was filled with tables that are used for school breakfast.

Mrs. Laners’ teaches first grade at Smallville Elementary School in Smallville, Ohio. Her class is made up of nineteen students, eight of which have been diagnosed with ADHD. In addition to ADHD one student has also been diagnosed as oppositionally defiant, meaning he does the opposite of what is being said to him. He is the only student to have his own desk; all other students have assigned seats along three long tables on one side of the classroom. There is no teacher assistant assigned to this classroom.
Every teacher must have a set of classroom routines and procedures to maintain order in the classroom. When entering the classroom, students will enter in a quiet manner. They will sit at their assigned desk and have all material ready to begin on required work. Once the bell rings and the door is closed, students will be seated and working. Tardiness is unacceptable and if the student receives more than three unexcused tardies per nine weeks, a referral will be given to the office and a phone call will be made the parent or guardian. Also, students should not be more than three minutes late to class. This will result in an automatic referral to the office.

The teacher that I observed was Mrs. Cynthia Carney. She is the kindergarten teacher at Greystone Elementary school. As my first time in the classroom, I tried to observe as much as possible. I had a great first impression of the classroom, it is a very positive environment, and the teacher has definitely established a clear routine and rules that the students follow. The teacher did a very brief (5-10 minute) science lesson/introduction to the unit on weather. Although the teacher did not inform my partner and I about the exact objectives for the lesson, it was clear that she wanted the students to learn about making observations about weather. Attendance is a crucial aspect of a student’s education. When a student is tardy or absent, this interferes with them receiving the information given in class. Class introductions that include instructions, objectives, due dates, etc. may be missed if a student is tardy and if a student is absent, they may also get behind on their class work and homework. Communication between teacher and students about the classroom management procedures for these two things are important so that students are informed and are able to take the initiative to gather what they have missed which can help avoid them falling behind. There are slow learners as well as a mixture of fast learners in every classroom. These should be taken into consider and activities should be planned accordingly so that slow learners will not left behind and fast learners will not be bored. There are students with learning difficulties which will affect the teaching learning process. These should be taken into consider and teachers need to avoid things happening which as an effect in the teaching learning process. Behavior such as disruptive and destructive shows similar characteristics. These behaviors need to be discussed with the parents and necessary actions need to be taken to create a good atmosphere in the class. Also teachers will be able to identify different cognitive levels and learning styles. Some students learn through audio, some need to see visually while some of them learn by writing. So as teachers we need to have all these learning styles in a lesson to fulfill each individual. Planning should be done accurately which helps in the teaching learning process. Teachers play a great role in handling different children in the classroom. To build up an effective teaching process, these facts need to be taken into consideration. It was a cold day when I visited Overlea high school and observed all that was happening in the school. The schools looked as if it was built before 20 years. The walls had black dust on it, there were chips and chocolate wrappers in the corner and the green grass was wet. In the morning at 7am I saw yellow colored buses filled with twenty five students coming to drop them at the school. Near the flagpole there were many students that belonged to other school standing and waiting for their bus. Those students were acting as if they were going to a jail and were never going to be released. There was lot of traffic and the mood of the students was lazy. It seemed liked they were tried of coming to school; they carried bags filled with books. I saw a boy who came out of the bus with no bag and nothing in his hands. A girl was dressed up as if it was summer. She had worn blue shorts, black flip flops, and white tank top. Her face looked absent without makeup and jewelry.
My classroom management starts with a well-organized, clearly labeled classroom layout so that my students can easily access the resources they need for my class. I display visual aids and reminders around the room to support the students and I display their work in specific places around the room to give them a sense of belonging. I create routines and procedures to support the students and enable them to form smooth transitions between activities. There is a certain way they enter and leave the classroom, distribute books and papers, and move their desks and chairs. In my classroom these mundane tasks are completed quickly, competitively, and with enthusiasm. Having routines in place helps students understand exactly what is expected of them and gives them confidence in their actions.
